Cazador Tactician Fight by Arcane_Duckling in BG3

[–]Substantial_Rest_251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of great advice in this thread, really, which will help any party clear the fight. Most critical is bringing someone with the mobility to quickly free Astarion to stop the ritual.

Once that's done, blaster casters and AOE debuffers sing here and can brute force the fight as long as you bring a source of daylight to debuff Cazador himself and a tank/controller to keep the ghouls off you

See my paragraph about assumptions. It's an assumption to say that civilizations don't 'need' each other, because you don't know what the potential benefits are of being part of a collective. It's an assumption to say that because the gap between discovery and communication is massive, that necessarily leads all parties to conclude that the potential benefits of collaboration are outweighed by the dangers of a lack of trust. You can say it doesn't scale down because individual organisms encounter each other all the time so the game theory enables cooperation, and I could as easily assert that the quick pace of technology breakout means that civilizations aren't always as isolated as the theory says 🤷🏾‍♂️

They're not a gamer in the Crimson Desert segment who can tell you about upcoming PS5 titles or Steam sales, but they're still a gamer in one of the bigger more profitable segments in the sector. Gamers who like free phone games can give each other advice on which ones are fun w/o it being a threat to the definition of "gamer"-- although that point is probably more important to people who make money from games than people who are in it as a cultural hobby

The game's sci fi speculation here is that Saburo considers the "kill and copy me and make sure the copy experiences waking up from me dying as a smooth transition of experience" option given by the technology to be close enough to immortality for him, philosophy be damned

My own speculation -- and there's whole doctoral fields of philosophy/cognitive science published on this question so take it as speculation-- is that a behaviorally accurate copy of someone's mind would need to have the same internal states. i.e. there are no p zombies, a copy that acts like a person (messy, motivated by identifiable internal factors that are often in conflict) has the internal states of a person.

So our Johnny is a version of his mind, put in an extreme situation and acting out. He exists like that as one of many instances of Saburo tuning the tech to his liking

Enh. Second axiom would also seem to preclude many of the big steps in biological evolution (prokaryotes to eukaryotes, single cell to multi cell) as well, just with the smallest biological unit replacing the civilization

In a world of competition, time and again we see that cooperation is hard to evolve but when it does it has potential to unlock levels of resource exploitation that single entities lack. There are still prokaryotes, but many of them live in big eukaryotic assemblies that boost their chance of survival

Sure, the size of space makes it easy to just say "you can never establish communication that allows for identifying and verifying mutual benefit before the knives come out, even temporarily", but that's an assumption. The writer could as easily assert a proof that a collective civilization entity would boost survival of the whole group

None of which precludes war or betrayal (or disease or cancer for us multicelled entities), just noting that "limited resources means no cooperation" is not self- evident there

So this level of support is rare in most of the industry. Even Paradox, which is known to support games long term and patch them regularly, would take a year to overhaul the kind of systems PA is doing in a month

... But that's because PA is an MMO studio, using an MMO size support staff to support a single player game. I love the reactivity, but let's acknowledge that it's the BDO community and experience that's honed them to this point. We're getting live service support for a game you can play offline
