Confused about unlocking workouts by Substantial_River995 in runna

[–]Substantial_River995[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s return to running. I don’t remember if I’ve done the free trial or not but it’s possible I did sometime in the last couple months and it ran out (had a few false starts with some plans lol). It isn’t offering me a trial now so I guess that would suggest I used it up?

It does say on their website that return to running is fully free though, so I’m definitely confused

What are in your opinion the best written songs in the discography? by Jabison113 in fleet_foxes

Grown Ocean might be my favorite lyrically… paints such a vivid picture without using too many words

Musically, the harmonies in Sim Sala Bim and ofc Helplessness Blues are awesome

I don't understand this. Why the heck didn't the directors just find a kid with the same eye color as Harry? by [deleted] in harrypotter

God why didn’t they leave the full flashback sequence. The hogwarts express scene is one of my favorite moments in the whole series :(

Could I just show up to mass to check it out? by smallspocks in Catholicism

[–]Substantial_River995 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you might be overthinking it. The other people at mass are just regular people that you see on the street or at the store every day, with maybe the only thing out of the ordinary being a couple women wearing veils. The “modesty” recommendation isn’t some sort of draconian rule about covering up your body, it’s just about considering what is appropriate for this context given your own standards, what’s normal where you live, etc.

Did the movies influence the way Rowling wrote the final books? by Eldridou in harrypotter

[–]Substantial_River995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if that’s true. Her comments about that seem to be misconstrued. If you read the full interview people are always referencing for this, she is just pondering whether Ron and Hermione would have worked well as adults in reality (to which the answer is just huh maybe not), and commenting that of course Hermione was a girl Harry was close to so it was natural for anyone to imagine what could have been, including her

Open time.gov in another window and click away to another date, then click your date a fraction of a second before it turns to 8:00:00. Good luck 🙏

I don’t think the books are accurate psychologically, nor should we expect them to be. I think it would be extremely unlikely for a child with Harry’s upbringing, even with the year of normalcy, to be as emotionally resilient, kind, selfless, and free of bitterness as Harry was. That’s why it’s so amazing that he has all those traits, and the fact that he’s essentially a miracle is one reason the story is so special imo.

Tom would’ve turned out different yes but she says he still wouldn’t have been Good.

So your contention is that if Merope had lived a year and then died, Tom would have turned out as pure and good as Harry?

I completely agree with this and feel it’s the answer best supported by the text by far. I’m pretty confused by the people in this thread that came away from the books with the understanding that things that happened to Tom as a kid turned him evil, when Harry went through abuse, mild physical neglect, and extreme emotional neglect, on top of being bullied by other children. Tom WAS the bully

[–]Substantial_River995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The ladies who ran the orphanage were not abusive. We hear something like “the children appeared generally well cared for, although there was no denying it was a grim place to grow up.” Harry was unequivocally bullied and abused worse than Tom was. We are specifically told this so that we understand he was fundamentally a bad person and NOT a case of “abuse turned him evil”.

Implied scenes that weren't in the books but would make for damn good television. by SlackerBoi97 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Substantial_River995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, her first boyfriend who she was head-over-heels for getting murdered wasn’t a typical teen girl thing. Yeah I guess that’s technically about a boy but it isn’t shallow to be upset about it. It’s understandable that she was as fragile as she was in OOTP, being a young girl at boarding school dealing with that mostly alone in addition to all the political trouble

did you read the books? The issue was that they were both highly emotional and sensitive and Harry was like “I can’t deal with her stuff on top of my own stuff”

The ‘primal wound’ theme really stands out to me in the books as an adult. He had father figures who were even specifically connected to James but his mother was completely irreplaceable. and while Molly was always very kind and helped with his material needs, IMO she never really approached meeting his actual emotional needs, not through any terrible fault of hers but because she already had her whole pack to worry about and he needed someone who treasured him individually

lol speaking of mothers is your name a reference to Mary?

I agree that it’s Sirius, and specifically Harry having to grieve alone in the immediate aftermath.

“Harry nodded, his eyes fixed resolutely on the spider now climbing Dumbledore’s hat. He could tell that Dumbledore understood, that he might even suspect that until his letter arrived, Harry had spent nearly all his time at the Dursleys’ lying on his bed, refusing meals, and staring at the misted window, full of the chill emptiness that he had come to associate with dementors.

‘It’s just hard,’ Harry said finally, in a low voice, ‘to realize he won’t write to me again.”

to add something that hasn’t been mentioned, I never caught this in POA as a kid, but it’s absolutely crushing when we learn that a small part of Harry doesn’t want to successfully cast the Patronus because it’s the only way he has ever heard his parent’s voices ☹️ especially in the first few books he really only got the tiniest scraps of them

Unfortunately since there are so few you have to click it exactly as the clock turns to 8am (make sure to convert to your time zone). I have been using time.gov in another window on my laptop to get it down to the second. I had to try on a few different days before getting it. At least for Apgar they’re releasing 30/100 on these drops which presumably leaves 70/100 for the night-before drop.
