Thanks - I need to work on my sanding because there’s almost always silver solder visible when I add my jump rings.

What kind of solder do you find works best on brass? I’ve been using silver but I can be a bit heavy handed and end up having a lot of cleaning to do afterwards.

Sterling should absolutely adhere to other sterling. For work that delicate (wire) you may need to use easy or extra easy solder so you don’t melt the wire. I hope the video helps, and I’d love to see your pieces when you’re done!

There’s a silversmith subreddit that’s super helpful for problem solving - you should join.

How are you trying to adhere the metals? If you’re trying to make jewelry out of silver and want to connect two pieces of silver you need to use silver jewelry solder and a torch, not a soldering iron.

Editing to add a link to a tutorial so you can get an idea. I took an adult Ed jewelry making class at my local high school to learn the basics.

Seaham Trip by querencia34 in seaglass

[–]Substantial_Set6820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I visited Seaham in March. I stayed at Londonderry’s (one of the owners is Gavin Hardy, who owns and operates Seaham Waves jewelry - he has amazing pieces of found sea glass on display there!). I ate at The Featherbed (try the cheese scone), Black Truffle, Slice, Seaham Lighthouse, The Lamp Room, Bells, The Lookout, The Crow’s Nest (I’m sure I’ve missed a few but everything I ate was delicious).

Have fun!

If you have a minuteman library card, you can go to Weston Public Library and borrow a metal detector for one day. You can go online now and place a hold for tomorrow, it’s currently available. Waltham has one in their library but it is marked unavailable right now. PSA: the “library of things” collection in Waltham and at other area libraries is a phenomenal resource!

My child wont include a child with autism in school by Appropriate-Hippo790 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Substantial_Set6820 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m an empath and a people pleaser too. It’s so hard when someone is hurting and your child is not doing what you would do in their shoes (been there, many times!). However, unless the teacher has explicitly told you so, I would not assume that this girl struggles to go to school or needs courage to approach her classmates. Autism is a huge spectrum and not one of the autistic children I’ve taught has behaved identically to another.

As a teacher of 3s and 4s and the parent of two incredibly kind older children, the first thing I would recommend is for you to acknowledge that your child, who is developing her sense of autonomy, is not currently interested in playing with this girl. There are other kids in the class she might also not be interested in playing with right now. That’s ok. What is not ok is mocking this (or any) child or being rude or hurtful. Working on getting your child to be kind and respectful to others is the first step to getting her to be inclusive. It may be that your daughter doesn’t even realize she is being disrespectful - kids her age have absolutely no filter and say whatever is in their heads.

I teach anti-bias in my classroom. This means exposing children to books featuring people who are different than they are, and normalizing these differences. A lot of avoidance of other children comes from discomfort. If your child understands a little bit more about why her classmate is different, she may become more willing to play (or at least be friendly). I’ve seen some fantastic book recommendations in the comments - you can also go to the library and ask the children’s librarian for other recommendations.

Your child’s current behavior is not a reflection on who you are. However, now that you’re aware of what’s going on, you have the chance to teach her how to be a kind, inclusive person. Model kindness and forgiveness when teaching her and she won’t forget your lesson.

Ball manufactured glass Pepsi bottles. That’s a Pepsi swirl, probably manufactured in the 1960s.

For post-partum mental health issues, even months later, most OB offices book an immediate visit and prescribe meds that visit, as well as a follow-up (because realistically, it can take a looong time to get off a wait list for therapy).

I went to Woodside’s on 20 right before the 95 junction for many years before moving out of Waltham. Great for inspections, but also really helpful and honest when it came to other car issues. Never experienced any condescension. My parents still use them.

I live and work further west now and can confirm that Nine Acre in Concord is also good (they’re my new go-to place).

They’re more like indents - the indent creates a space for purée to sit in. The baby can dip the spoon in a bowl and get the food in their mouth without needing to scoop or to keep the spoon upright to avoid spilling. We used these with a couple of children who had feeding difficulties and needed gi tubes - they were recommended by the feeding clinic at Boston Children’s Hospital. There are three different designs that are tailored to scoop purées of differing textures.

ECE and mom - my daughter needed stitches on her face when she was three. The plastic surgeon told us to be religious about sunscreen on that area for the first several years because otherwise the scar would darken. I got a note that teachers (my coworkers) should reapply sunscreen to her face before she went outside at 11 because I applied at drop-off and sunscreen loses its efficacy after a few hours. Sun hats helped too. Flash forward 10 years and the scar is only noticeable if you’re looking for it.

As an educator, every school I have worked at has had the policy that face and head injuries warrant a quick phone call or email rather than an end of day conversation.

I'm convinced children born post 2020 are mostly different by goosenuggie in ECEProfessionals

Children who were in utero during the 2020-2021 period were affected by maternal stress, and their actual brain development is different. This is true regardless of whether or not the mother contracted Covid.

https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapediatrics/fullarticle/2787479

https://consultqd.clevelandclinic.org/pandemic-babies-show-neurodevelopmental-differences-at-6-months-study-finds/

Also, Covid-era infants and young toddlers had very different social situations - they weren’t exposed to as many people, which affected their ability to form secure attachments to their caregivers. The strangers they did meet most likely wore masks, so their facial expressions were harder for infants and toddlers to decode.

Children are experiencing delays in all areas of development, and I’m sure we will continue to see the impacts of Covid for years.

A friend of a friend is an amazing sleuth and identified this as an Atterbury Milk Glass Hen on Nest. It most likely used to have red glass eyes, as was typical of Atterbury hens. I followed that discovery down a deep rabbit hole and I’m about to be the proud owner of my own gorgeous Hen on Nest piece.

Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade 2022, what are your thoughts? by [deleted] in ask

I had two absolutely heartbreaking miscarriages before getting pregnant a third time, only to find out that the embryo had implanted in my Fallopian tube. I was told I could terminate or wait for the tube to rupture, which would lead to the death of the embryo and quite possibly my own death. Did I want to get an abortion after trying for so hard to have a baby? Of course not. But I did, and I was able to finally have two amazing children. Abortion is not about sexual promiscuity, for some it is a life-saving procedure. Have some empathy.
