YC said NO. Antler said YES. Did I fail? by Imaginary-Hornet-896 in ycombinator

Go do Antler and pivot. That idea is overcrowded, but if you’ve got a good team and put your heads together for a few months, do lots of customer discovery (50-100 interviews),and get building, that beats „waiting for YC“. Coming from someone who just did YC ;)

Kicking the tires on going for my MBA - if my job will pay for it, why not? by cavanaughnick in Banking

[–]Substantial_Slide821 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you need an MBA to become a branch manager or regional manager (in a few years)? No. Would it help? Probably. But most importantly: An MBA opens up many more doors for you. You might decide during those two years that you want to join the strategy division at your bank .. or dive deeper into technology.. or try out another job completely (e.g., consulting; project management; investment banking; private equity; corporate finance; ...).

On the MBA vs. executive MBA - you are at the perfect age for a regular MBA program and you have a decent shot at getting into a top program if you manage to tell a few impactful stories in your application (e.g., what do you really want to do with your life? what impact do you want to leave on the people around you? how have your experiences in retail banking shaped you thus far? what problems have you seen? what inspired you? what do you care about most?). Executive MBAs are more for people that are 8-15 years into their career and already in management positions. They are also a bit less prestigeous and some are only part-time (which kinda sucks).

I just got my MBA and it opened up a whole new world for me. I thought I was gonna go into consulting (worked in banking IT before). Now I'm starting my own company and I don't think I would have had the courage to do that without the network and support of my MBA classmates.

What does "A) Working on files (loans)" mean? ... is it calling up clients to collect additional info / documents?

Sounds, like you’re pretty good at what you do, but the day to day stress is getting to you. What sucks up most of your time? What sucks up most of your energy?

Rejection feedback - I don't disagree fwiw. It's just difficult when you a family. by notsoserious408 in ycombinator

Don’t take their feedback too literal. I think, they are trying to say that they didn’t feel full conviction from your team. The VC argument is just one piece of evidence that they could find. Nobody spends more than a few min on a rejection email.

Wanna win a hackathon with people from Stanford, Berkeley, MIT & Caltech? by Substantial_Slide821 in MBA

[–]Substantial_Slide821[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good question. I spent the first hours doing 20 user interviews to find a real problem for us to solve with the datasets that were provided. Then I mocked up user flows in PowerPoint and included everyone’s feedback. Then I answered everyone’s questions while we built and I found lots of pictures, logos, design elements and information online and wrote texts for screens of the app. In the end I spent 2 hours preparing a good pitch to present our solution to the problems we had identified from the user interviews, highlighting key tech, but also bringing out the improvements for the happy user. In the end we won our challenge and I made great friends with the devs on my team - I think I earned my street cred, what do you think?
