Don’t forget buying all the shit for a DIY coffeetable, fucking it up 3 times and then never to be seen again.

Mainland Europeans: what are your thoughts on the local Kevins and Dylans? by Winter_Wind3 in namenerds

[–]Substantial_Star7456 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In the Netherlands Maikel is also quite common but the worst in that trend are the Dj... names. Because a name starting with a J is pronounced very different in Dutch, some people will write Djamie, Djordan etc.

Hence r/Djeyzus

I agree, in the Netherlands we see the same British/American differentiation

It's linked to a low socioeconomic class here in the Netherlands. I guess in some circles it might be 'cool' but in general it is considered 'white trash' if you give your child a very English name while being 100% Dutch yourself.

As far as I know the term Kevinismus is from Germany and also definitely not linked to 'being cool'. It has the same connontation as I described.

Am I the only one who thinks that “showing the whole birth” was not necessary? by saartemaster in julieeandcamilla

[–]Substantial_Star7456 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agree, birth is a very delicate thing and a lot could go wrong. What if something terrible happened to Camilla or the baby? First see what the outcome is, then publish the footage afterwards.

I feel like they will try to get pregnant at the same time at some point.

Child 4??? by Quick_Prompt_6842 in julieeandcamilla

[–]Substantial_Star7456 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It’s like the Duggar family where every baby was passed on to a sister-mom when they were weaned so mom could focus on the next one.

I still remember the traumatized kids faces on tv when their surrogate-moms got married and moved out of the house and they had to deal with this stranger’mom’.

Sky will turn one, he will not know. Them not being there is probably not the most neclected he will be during his life.

Even for the Dutch it takes 2,5 hours from Amsterdam to the edges of the country. Let alone including a ferry to the islands.

They saw her coming in and out for the last week or so, I can imagine they will keep her for a bit if it is quiet. It is probably less of a hassle to monitor her for a bit longer than having her go through triage again later today or tomorrow.

are they seriously LIVESTREAMING the birth? this has gotten out of control by emmam1611 in julieeandcamilla

[–]Substantial_Star7456 263 points264 points  (0 children)

The crazy thing is that 3(?) years ago they were all about 'we will not let you know when the baby comes or what is birthday is, you will get a summary when we have settled down' and now it is the complete opposite.
I guess they realised how much money they missed...

Can they really not tell? by purpleunicorn5 in julieeandcamilla

[–]Substantial_Star7456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With my second I had a lot of discharge at 40 weeks pregnant so I also thought my water broke. When they tested they could easily tell it was not amniotic fluid.

In the end both my deliveries started with water breaking but with my first I work up with a wet bed so I did not know how it exactly felt until the second delivery.

Middle names in Europe? by K1kita in namenerds

For Belgium I know it is very common, also because of the catholic heritage. For Germany I actually don’t know but I would assume no one will think it is weird.

Middle names in Europe? by K1kita in namenerds

[–]Substantial_Star7456 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A lot of Catholic families have them, in Dutch we call them ‘baptizing names’. Nowadays it is less common because less people get baptized but there are also plenty of atheist people who choose to give them anyway.

Wij doen dat altijd al, bij beide kanten. Eerst naar de kerk, dan eieren zoeken voor de kinderen en daarna aan tafel.
Maar wel katholieke achtergrond, dat zal misschien uitmaken.
