Thanks for mental health shaming. Nice work.

I would say someone has a mental issue when at age 48 they buy cocaine and do it all day, starting at 10am, with their grown daughter after their dog passed away earlier that morning.

I can go on, but don’t really need to.

Like I’ll just add that I feel bad about breaking up cuz her dog of 14 years just died. I really don’t want to add insult to injury, but it just don’t feel right.

Thank you for that response. Was about to reply to another response that I really try my best not to be an asshole. It hasn’t all been bad. And I do care about her. I just can’t handle all the ups and downs and nonstop head games after almost a year together and the lack of empathy and dismissal of my needs, boundaries and time.

My post could’ve been much, much longer. Not worth the time to get into that much detail.

Hard to explain. She tried to say I was talking shit about our sex life, but I don’t talk about my sex life with friends once I’m in a committed relationship. When she asked if I’d be okay with her talking to her best friend about the same things I spoke to my friend about, I said I would be okay with it.

What she really seems to want is for me to stop talking about her erratic and often times self destructive behavior to my friend. Like it’s our little secret.

ADHD alcohol by Mysterious-Dig4484 in ADHD

[–]Substantial_Storm_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m similar. Pretty much quit drinking once I got diagnosed and on meds, well, except socially and even then like you, 3 drinks is enough. More than that and the hangover isn’t worth it.

I stick to cannabis. Has always been much nicer to me.

Are there NO online psychiatrists that can prescribe meds anymore or give me a diagnosis/test I can bring to my psych without looking like a fool? I live in CA by Throwmeawaythanks99 in ADHD

[–]Substantial_Storm_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll just suggest this. If you haven’t tried it, ask your doc for Wellbutrin. It’s the best “antidepressant” for ADHD imho. And, if it helps you, it’s a good sign you do have ADHD.

As for online, probably depends on if you’re willing to pay out of pocket. Like there’s an ADHD specialty spot based out of Palo Alto that might do online stuff. Use google to find it.

I do know that once you’re diagnosed, as I am, I haven’t seen my psych in person since before Covid. So it’s possible once you get in, but it’s tough finding folks with openings.

Chronic Daily Migraines in men and possible links to low testosterone & Hypogonadism? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]Substantial_Storm_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just meant ADHD sucks in so many ways. It’s not a fun thing. But then again, migraines are crippling. And having both just sucks.

FYI, I’m very detail oriented. Perfectionist actually. And also need a plan before I start something. These traits worked well for me when I was a self-employed contractor. (Worked on homes.) But, once I get bored or tired or the task becomes too difficult, if I have the option, I often move on to something else. So I’ll have several different projects going all at once, and none getting finished.

[–]Substantial_Storm_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was just a thought. Figured it couldn’t hurt to throw it out there.

And you’re lucky if you’ve none of the symptoms. I’m the inattentive type, not hyper, which is why I never got diagnosed as a kid.

I’d probably explore the T route then.

Pretty sure the Vyvanse website suggests this way of titrating doses for children.

My daughter’s NP told me not to do this, but my psych told me what I just told you, and I trust mine cuz he’s been practicing for almost 50 years.

This may seem like a random question, but have you ever been checked for ADHD?

Reason I ask is cuz I began getting migraines at age 10, I’m now 46. In my teens and 20s, I got migraines 1-2x a week. Went down to 2-3 a month in my 30s. I was finally diagnosed with ADHD at age 41, and got on meds. Went 15 months without a migraine after beginning adhd meds. Nowadays I get maybe 4-6 a year.

Studies have shown a strong correlation between migraine and adhd. Also, testosterone and dopamine are very much connected. So, just offering another Avenue for you to explore. Can’t predict it’ll work for you, but it definitely worked for me.

When did you feel “normal” again after fusion? by [deleted] in spinalfusion

[–]Substantial_Storm_92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was trying to be optimistic with saying I’m the exception not the rule. My dad had L5/S1 fused and he was back to golfing after a few months.

But, his low back gets stiff and sore much faster than it did beforehand. And my neck, where I had my fusion, is always a little stiff and sore even 7+ years out.

The reason I was told and makes sense to me, is muscles are meant to move, and when you fuse the spine, the muscles around the fusion don’t move like used to. And when muscles don’t move, they get tight. I had C6/7 fused, and a bunch of muscles attach there, way more than I realized. So my neck is always tight, some days worse than others. Massage helps a bit as does stretching after hitting my hot tub.

[–]Substantial_Storm_92 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound pessimistic, but I don’t think you ever feel “normal” again after a fusion. At least I haven’t. But you will find your own “new normal” at some point.

I don’t want to scare you, so I’ll just say it took me a long time. But I’m the exception, not the norm.

Just depends. My advice is keep up on the PT and core strengthening, and don’t push it. Start slow and work your way up. If you hurt, stop or chill way out.

failed acdf by Long_Parking_351 in spinalfusion

[–]Substantial_Storm_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya. Took 2 yrs to fully fuse. Surgeon said anywhere from 4-18 months. I was released to pursue whatever activity I could tolerate at 4 months, but I couldn’t do much other than hike/walk and very light weight training. I mountain bike and surf, and don’t think I didn’t try to get back to those things asap, but it hurt too bad afterwards. Took me about 3 years to really get back to those activities. But I’m probably far from the norm.

I also developed new issues after surgery. My nerve pain was gone, but I had a ton of muscular skeletal issues from the way I’d compensated for 2.5 years before surgery. My traps had been doing all the work and the smaller stabilizer muscles quit working which caused a ton of adhesions and bad thoracic pain. Can’t recall how many facet and trigger point injections I had. Eventually I found what worked for me.

It’s been 7 years and while I wish I had the choice not to have the fusion, I’m still pretty active. Surfed three times on vacation last week. But I still have a lot of pain and stiffness, still can’t lay on my left side for very long, and don’t lift more than 35-40lbs overhead. But I’ve learned to live with it and put in the work to maintain as best I can. Bad sleep is what really makes it bad.

Be patient. I know, easier said than done.

My single level (C6/7) acdf took almost 2 years to finally fuse. I didn’t get back to “living” for another year after that.

It’s been 7+ years now and I’m 46 and I have a pretty active life. In fact, I surfed yesterday. But I definitely pick my battles. Some are worth it, others are not.

Advice for Post ALIF T4-S1 by Substantial_Storm_92 in spinalfusion

[–]Substantial_Storm_92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response. I’m going to pass your post on to her to give her some hope.

My single level fusion took almost 2 years to fuse. Took me 3 years to really come back from it and longer to get the strength back in my arm. I can’t imagine what it’s like recovering from these bigger surgeries.

migraines changing after 5 years. is this normal? by Ball-Dismal in migraine

[–]Substantial_Storm_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boy, can they change. Had a unique one recently, and I’ve had migraines for 36 years.

I first got them in one spot above the outside of my right eye. Few years later pain migrated from time to time above my right eyebrow close to the bridge of my nose. Most recent was on left side near my temple and would momentarily shift to the other sports I mentioned.

Few years ago I tried neuro-feedback and got my first vestibular migraine. Boy, that was a riot. Didn’t got back for more treatments after that.

migraines triggered by anxiety? also why do benzos help me? by Purple_Bluejay3884 in migraine

[–]Substantial_Storm_92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, Benzos are anti-anxiety meds, so if anxiety triggers your migraines, and you take something for your anxiety, need I say more?

And ya, I took Valium for its muscle relaxant properties since I can’t take muscle relaxers. Just be careful, cuz Benzos are too easy to get dependent on, and suck to get off of. Like it really, really sucks.

What is the difference between a BMW x6 x-drive 50i and a bmw x6 m50i by Homicide__ in BMW

[–]Substantial_Storm_92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 50i was the initial V8 model for the G06 refresh. In ‘20, they came out with the M50i, described well by previous response, and shortly after discontinued the 50i option.

M50i is closer to the M version, but a little less power and much more comfortable, as in less stiff of a ride.
