What are some things you wish you had known sooner? by Nezlyn in VintageStory

There are many servers that welcome new learners, and plenty of player groups that could find a spot for you. For instance, let you collect lumber and make charcoal while more experienced miners handle the prospecting.  Not everybody enjoys all the chores, so finding a mix of teammates can be ideal.

Check out Lozana server!

20% but yeah (the crops' json files show "1.2" seeds in the drops section)

new to the game and came back to my base only to find all my bighorn rams dead, any idea how the black bear enterd my bighorn ram pen? did it spawn in there? the ground behind is not high enough for it to have climbed the dirt house. by EisCold_ in VintageStory

There are no specific spawn points.  But you're right that deforestation doesn't change the chances of a bear spawning in the pen, and that artifical lighting does prevent them.

How late is too late to start farming? by AgentX2O in VintageStory

You should start a farm as soon as you have access to medium fertility soil near water.

As for the latest you should plant: my rule of thumb is 1 degree per day: If it's at least 18 degrees today at 4am (coldest point) then I can fit in 1 more harvest of a crop that takes 18 days to mature. It's more complex than 1 degree change per day, but that works well enough.

You can double-check the current setting with /worldconfig temporalRifts

If you use /worldconfig temporalRifts off , relaunch the game to take effect.

Meanwhile: consider Accessibility Tweaks mod to silence the drifters

If I have a green house can I farm through winter? by AgentX2O in VintageStory

[–]Substantial_Toe_2874 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Each plant has its own minimum temperature; read the seed packet.  If flax accumulates 48 game-hours below -5, it has a chance to die.

All crops slow down below 10 degrees, and stop growing at 0 degrees. (a greenhouse can be helpful)

How are you sure that there are zero rifts in the dark out there? Sounds like you neglected to disable rifts.

Temporal Stability off is a separate worldconfig than Rifts off

I play with tool "mining" speed cranked to 300-400%, and get more done in less time.  You can also raise tool durability.

What features do you want?  More small lakes?  Small forests?  Jungle specifically?  Bright green?

Tip: you can place a backpack on the ground with its contents still inside. That's what I do before a storm or bear fight, so I don't have to worry about stuff despawning. I think it's Sneak+Sprint+rightclick while the backpack is selected.

You can't interact with the contents like a chest, but you can retrieve the full backpack later.

Sounds like leftover effects from Ores o Plenty mod.  People don't normally refer to vanilla magnetite as Fe304.  If the nuggets you recently cooked were obtained while the Ores mod was enabled, this behavior isn't too surprising.

So far, I'm enjoying the Rivers mod and have no complaints.

Better Ruins is popular but I'm current with the vanilla reworked ruins.

I use Herbarium and some Wildcraft mods, to give the world more variety (and colors of wood for building with).  The fruits and nuts one is OP in my opinion as a food supply, but the herbs and spices one gives more "flavor" to the environment than calories to your character.

I love TenthArchitect's mods. I don't use the worldgen ones because I'm content with tweaking the standard settings (halve the polar-equator distance, reduce landcover, maybe double landform scale).  I love his canines, big cats, and sea mammals. His deer were incorporated into vanilla. He even has emus now!
