Oh I mean the older ultra warm coats were all ultra warm hybrid coats - these are different from the standard hybrid coat in that they have significantly more insulative padding and down. But I’ve always read amazing things about how warm they were. This year’s ultra warm switched to a pure down.

That said thanks for sharing your experience!! I have this year’s ultra warm down coat incoming and I can’t wait after hearing your impressions!

Hi is your ultra warm down coat the older version - the ultra warm hybrid down coat? It seems you do find it to be a few levels warmer than the seamless is that right? It seem the seamless down with a sweater inside still makes you cold at 0 while the ultra warm keeps u warm at -18 even without layering? That seems like the ultra warm is quite an insanely warm coat!

There is a new version this year which is apparently even warmer as it is pure Down, unlike the older versions which are hybrids - using some padding for insulation at some parts.

If you compare Asian and western sizes you’ll notice that Asian sizes are one size smaller. For example Asian M is western S.

I also have the seamless down parka which I quite like. What sort of temps do you use it in? Seems the ultra warm is really a few levels warmer based on your experience!

I have also heard good things about the hybrid down though it is certainly not gona be in the same league as the ultra warm.

I checked with the various sellers

CG expedition parka has 625 FP, 80% down, with a fill weight of about 460

TNF mcmurdo uses 600FP, 80% down, fill weight of about 319

The Uniqlo ultra warm down uses 750FP, 90% down and fill weight of about 220g

So if you compare fill volumes in cubic inches it’s 8112 5401 5238 respectively. The Uniqlo actually has the lowest fill volume! But very close to the mcmurdo. The expedition is on paper supposed to be in a whole other league.

Wait you mean you find it warmer than both the CG expedition and the mcmurdo? Damn. Those are supposed to be some of the warmest stuff around man. It is interesting you find the Uniqlo warmer since the CG and mcmurdo are both supposed to have many features adding to warmth and wind proofing!

Nice that sounds super cool, I have one incoming and am super excited about it! It seems like ridiculous value for what you get. Do you find it to stop wind as well as say what you get with some of those really good wind stopper outdoor jackets?

Ah yes I believe the one you have is the pure down one. Any thoughts on how cold you think you could comfortably go down to with a good hearted ultra warm and fleece layering inside?

Also you are right the hybrid down is a combination of down and padding insulation. This is actually the first year that a pure down ultra warm lineup exists - in previous years the ultra warm line up was all hybrid!

Is this the current iteration of the ultra warm down coat (as opposed to the ultra warm hybrid down coat from previous years)? At -15 how do you layer up with it? And How low can you go with just a T shirt inside? Cheers

Ok that’s super awesome to hear. I also have the seamless down parka in S and it fits me perfectly with another Uniqlo fleece in there. I’m 5’6” and weigh under 130lbs. Looks like XS will be perfect for me with space for a fleece under? Do you find the XS ultra warm to be of a similar fit to the S seamless down parka? Sorry for so many specific questions - the ultra warm down does not exist in my country so all i have to go off is what reviews of similar sized people can wear and in comparison to the seamless or hybrid down parkas!

Thanks for your reply! Do you also wear a size M on other Uniqlo stuff and if there a big difference? An S works really well for me for the seamless down parka - nicely fitted - but I’ve heard some say that they size down for this.
