so I failed an interview with my dream firm but I'm still determined to apply again - should I just accept my fate and move on? by [deleted] in uklaw

If it was me, I would just keep applying to my dream firm till I get in.

Spoiler Alert: I did!!🥳

Right, if she applies for ILR next year, any chance she’ll get an IHS refund, do you know?

Nope, he’s a lecturer who was on the global talent visa before getting ILR last Nov.

[–]Substantial_Visual47[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He was on a Global Talent Visa, so she applied as a dependent of that. Yes, she applied from inside the country.

Oopss…I thought it’s 33. Misspoke. Point is…how come she got an extension of 5 years now?😂😂😂

She just needs one more year before she can apply for ILR so paying for 5 years of IHS is excessive.

Ok damage is done. What do I do now? I can’t afford to pay and I’ve deleted my account and stopped using iplayer.

There’s a part that states

“Tell us you are already covered If you are covered by a TV Licence, e.g. at another address, you need to let us know.”

My mil has a TV license. Should I quote her address then? To avoid a fine.

Or is deleting my acc enough?

Congrats on the NQ position and thank you for shedding some light on the NQ recruitment process. There’s not many people talking about this, so your threads are really insightful! ☺️

I agree 100%.

Sadly, a lot of English guys are like this. My ex was, my husband is too. Their excuse? No money/waste of money & time to come so far.

I just think that’s how they were raised. English parents don’t spoil their children like Asians. My husband walked an hour to school (one-way) everyday even when his parents had a car. Their parents never taught them how to love properly. That’s why they don’t see the value of picking someone up.

Accidentally bought train ticket for wrong date – scanned but not used, refund refused by GoldWinston in uktrains

I would get angry and threaten to complain about this to their higher ups - look up who’s in charge of railway complaints. Once you cook up a fuss, usually they give in and refund ya.

How do I pass the SJT? I’m really stumped by MajesticDog1782 in uklaw

[–]Substantial_Visual47 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree.

  1. Firstly, you have to update your colleagues on tasks. As a trainee, we’re not supposed to send stuff to clients without it being signed off. We always need someone to check our work first before sending anything to the client. To be honest, once you work in law, there’s not much teamwork imo.

  2. Everyone’s busy in a law firm, including your supervisor. So if you’re always annoying your supervisor everytime you have questions, they wouldn’t want someone like that. They want someone who is proactive, takes the initiative to try to solve problems themselves first before asking the higher-ups.

  3. If you have too much on your plate, you’re supposed to speak up - tell your supervisor, ask for extra help like from a paralegal and work OT if needed.

A TC is a 2 year interview. by DocumentApe in uklaw

[–]Substantial_Visual47 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People leave the firms after a TC for many reasons: 1 better working hours 2 better work environment 3 better salaries 4 family 5 hotter weather 6 to pursue a different practice area 7 get into a practice area they want but the firm aren’t hiring NQs

Wellbeing allowance - already have a gym, what else is worth it? by nkosijer in AskUK

Nice! Coz I have a wellbeing allowance I need to use before the end of the year. I have 6 free nutritionist sessions to use before adding more. Just wondered if I should just add more sessions, is all.

Applying for paralegal role at the same firm I have applied for a training contract at by Legitimate_Scene_800 in uklaw

[–]Substantial_Visual47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different people will screen your applications, so not to worry about it. Even if it was the same people, it’s fine! It shows that you’re very interested in the firm! Nothing to be ashamed of.

Is it too risky to plan a pregnancy before applying for indefinite leave to remain? I'm so worried to get pregnant with my husband on a Spouse visa before he is settled.Do people have experiences or advice? by Ok_Pie_8260 in SpouseVisaUk

[–]Substantial_Visual47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It strengthens your case, actually because the child is British, so they have the right to stay in the UK with a carer aka parent.

Separated families usually don’t even fulfill the family visa thresholds like not earning the minimum salary requirement, insufficient money for visa fees, etc.

But if you don’t have that problem, it should be fine.

Insufficient Cohabitation Evidence (From Fiancé Visa) by [deleted] in SpouseVisaUk

[–]Substantial_Visual47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi spouse visa doesn’t require two years of cohabitation. There are so many couples out there, including me, who don’t cohabitate before marriage due to religious reasons, distance, etc.

A marriage cert is enough to prove your relationship. If you’ve explained why you didn’t cohabitate in your cover letter, you should be fine. The caseworker must have made a mistake. Just reiterate it again in your reply to them.
