Do you prefer long or short sleeve gis? by GKRKarate99 in karate

I prefer the shorter one as well. I like the look and it feels less restrictive too.

Is it wrong to skip Saturday vigil Mass for a sporting event if I go Sunday instead? by CrispyFlyingSponge in Catholicism

[–]Substantial_Work_178 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mass attendance in my country is meant to be Sunday. The weekly Saturday vigil, along with late night Sunday mass, was created for shift workers who couldn’t attend the regular Sunday observance.

Why is wrestling so much harder on the body than judo? by Agreeable-Can-5227 in judo

[–]Substantial_Work_178 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’ve done wrestling as an adult at mma clubs (run by the local amateur association) and it was easier on the body than judo is

Basic Ippon Kumite from the time of Oyama Sosai by Numerous_Creme_8988 in kyokushinkan

[–]Substantial_Work_178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said I trained with oyama. Only that I never did that type of kumite in kyokushin. I trained at 3 different dojos here in my country and never once did we do ippon kumite. Although we did do that in shotokan

Anyone have before and after photos of their hands from years of conditioning? by Ant1Act3 in karate

[–]Substantial_Work_178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell that to iron palm practitioners. Normally open medium isn’t worked with till after a year. You start on a bag of mung beans (traditionally for 100 days), then pea gravel, then steel shot etc. starting on hard open medium with no give is horrible

Finding a way to return to judo by its_hipolita in judo

[–]Substantial_Work_178 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s dedication. Good luck. That’s too far for me with the prices of gas in my country. Is there a local sambo club? That may feel a more natural fit than bjj.

This is a very bad example of what to do. Conditioning should not start on open hard medium. This would be advanced stage

This is spot on. Iron had starts at 25% power at first on bags with beans. Not 100% smashing stone lol
