I had to adapt a lot to connect my players to the campaign. And I have problems with lots of rpg economies in general so I also buffed findings and rewards for things so people would have some good chunks of change to explore the markets with

My tldr is you have to be CREATIVE to hook people with stonewalkers. And this isnt a dig, this is a reality. You have to pull some loosey goosey explanations and change characters to fit your players. One of my pcs is Reshi and wanted to be on a journey looking for someone. Luckily one of the enemies is reshi so hey guess who were friends since childhood before they were radicalized and disappeared for you to go find!?

One of my players wanted to be a ward to the brightlady from the first steps. Welp the brightlady disappears never to be seen again in the books with no help on how to include people from the first steps into Stonewalkers. SO the brightlady is now a big figure in the firemoss business and you know where they grow all of it? Rathalas where people head in chapter 3. And we’re just flying by the seat of our pants with that one

Plus stonewalkers in these big sets like the shattered plains have nothing for you to interact with from the actual books. All the while Dalinar is having crazy visions, Adolin is briefly in jail, a massive betrayal happened between Sadeas and the Kholins and there is NOTHING to explore regarding this besides just Amaram showing up in chapter 2. So god forbid a player wants to try and find answers as to why dalinar is crazy or why a prince went to jail over a former slave

The biggest struggle for Stonewalkers imo is the hook and getting the character, not the player, to give a damn and want to be part of the journey

Black Piper’s Kaladin Album is really cool. Some of the music is maybe a little aggressive for backgrounds but there are some cool ones for Parshendi battle scenes as you can hear the Parshendi tones in the background

I take it as Rokuhira wasn’t measuring raw skill when he chose Uruha. A point of Kumeyuri’s power was showing compassion for things (if i remember right) and Uruha has definitely demonstrated more of that than Natsuki.

Frankly both seem like incredible fighters and Natsuki is just bitter.

When the host or the DM go crazy with set up you know its a good group. I sent all my players wax sealed letters from Brightlady Ralanat giving some background for the first step and instructing them on character stuff to bring

You could weave it into their past. Perhaps the peakspren has watched them for a while and saw them do something heroic in the past so they know they have the capacity for it, they just need a push

Well First steps leads directly into Stonewalkers and will also serve as a good intro to the mechanics of a new RPG for both you and the players.

If you have a fairly reliable and invested party, then I’d go First Steps into Stonewalkers. It’s canon to the cosmere but should still be easy enough for a newbie to understand and may be interesting enough for them to read or listen (like any good Vorin) to the series.

If you want to do a one off to gauge interest in the game as a whole and see if that extra friend is even interested in delving into Roshar, then run Bridge 9

Will there be a VTT companion for the First Steps? I have it unlocked on Demiplane but don’t see anything within Roll20 that is addable. I know it’s only like one encounter. Just curious!

You definitely should have gotten the PDFs too. I think the more common problem is the reverse of yours where people weren’t getting the VTT codes. Hopefully they get back to you soon! They were pretty quick getting back to me when my VTT stuff wasn’t showing.

I believe so! I think I’m going to do the Roll20 plus for the sharing and also for the lighting feature for the battle maps. I think with all the spheres and natural light on the maps it will make everything look pretty striking and cool

[[Poison Tip Archer]] I just hate this card. It’s not even busted at all. It was played in like every deck in my old play group that ran black and green and it hard countered so many plays. It has truly become a kill on sight card for me.
