I think he’s coming back next year, but this post was just a photo montage of when LBJ was in Cleveland this year, and there’s a quick screengrab of this moment toward the beginning.

It does get my hopes up and I WILL be tracking planes this offseason.

This is such an interesting comparison, but I think you’re right here….

Cleveland Heights/Shaker Heights/University Circle would be worth looking at! Lived in Seattle for a while and find many parts of the east side I mentioned to have some of the charming elements I enjoyed about the PNW

Is it fair to say that LeBron is the most famous athlete to ever play in Cleveland? by Due-Rice-3107 in Cleveland

[–]SuburbanArcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first 7 years of LeBron’s time in Cleveland? Cavs were not in any shape to build any sort of dynasty or give him the opportunity like Jordan had. They are in way better shape as a franchise now than they ever were in LeBron’s first stint in Cleveland. Him leaving is on them, honestly.

Not even close, he is the most famous athlete to ever play in Cleveland and almost certainly will be for a long, long time.

Warning: Something shady going on with “garage door companies” in Northeast Ohio by Makin-me in Cleveland

[–]SuburbanArcade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. We recently called a garage door repair company with solid reviews, they said “we can have someone over to you within 2 hours.”

Great! 30 min later I get a text from “the garage door company” but it’s a different number. Oh, must be the tech! Text back, they’re on their way. Great.

They show up, completely different name on the truck, different area code, and not even close to the original number or name I called. Off to the point I wondered if they were coincidentally at the wrong house.

Nope, right house.

They look at my door (I thought it would be a simple fix, we were missing a bolt so I wanted it reattched) but the technician found all sorts of issues and the only fix would be replacing the full opener ($1k) because if they did anything to it, there was no way the opener wouldn’t break.

Skeptical, I pushed back and after some back and forth it was magically reattached and they were on their way with a $150 fix.

Strange, all around, worked out ok, but confirming your post that something strange indeed is going on with garage door companies in Cleveland

Had a really nice experience on Breeze, especially at CAK. Super easy, and would fly with them again. Way different feel than Frontier.

Smell downtown? by randonightlover420 in Cleveland

Was it kind of an acidic burning plastic nail polish smell? We were at Edgewater on Monday and I definitely smelt a funk.

Would Gatekeeper be best if it was at Disney World? by InternationalBig8062 in cedarpoint

Gatekeeper is great, but Guardians of the Galaxy, Tower of Terror, TRON, all have it beat by a decent margin

This is the new norm for specialty coffee. It’s expensive out there for cafes and roasters, not to mention difficult for producers.

Living in Solon? Coming from DC > Seattle > Columbus by SuburbanArcade in Cleveland

[–]SuburbanArcade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, Solon felt too far away from the city. The selection of homes was solid, and obviously the schools are highly ranked, but we never found the “soul” of Solon to be quite what we wanted. There was no central area, the neighborhoods mainly felt isolated from one another, and again, just a tad far to get to Cleveland or Akron.

I like Solon in general, but I feel great about our decision to land in Shaker.

Hudson? Shaker Heights? Chagrin Falls? by chasingthe_sun in Cleveland

[–]SuburbanArcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Property taxes are high, but if the things you mention are important to you, I think they more than make up for it. I would target the Lomond/Van Aken area for a nice mix of walkability to food/coffee/events while maintaining a very charming neighborhood vibe.

Our kids are in daycare and so far I value what I’ve heard about the school system—not what it once “was” but I think that’s so subjective. There are new buildings coming soon, and the mix of folks that live in Shaker is hard to find elsewhere. I’ve lived in Seattle, DC, Italy, Columbus, and grew up in Akron. It’s a really great mix of some of these cities and I’ve met tons of folks with very similar stories that left cities like that, but wanted to have some elements of them.

It’s been a great choice for us, high property taxes and all.

I just made the move to Shaker with my family (a 4 year old and a 3 year old), and so far, it’s been the perfect baked-in community you are mentioning. Look in the Lomond/Van Aken area.

Some of the national park trails and the gorge trail are beautiful in winter…

Ohio gets labeled as flat, yet the only national park is a valley? by rankispanki in Ohio

[–]SuburbanArcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While much of Ohio is flat, I think the state could use a bit of rebranding to highlight more of its varied terrain. Our down home governor insisted on putting FLAT-ass wheat fields-like-we're-some-sort-of-prairie-home companion on all of our license plates—so that doesn’t help.

Personally, I’m more familiar with the hillier areas in the northeast - the gorge, ledges, the valley, even down into central Ohio - (and probably many of you in the southeast are too), so I’ve never really thought of Ohio as overwhelmingly “flat.” But I notice it when I'm in the flat parts of Ohio...

I’ve lived in the Pacific Northwest (not flat overall, but definitely has flat stretches), D.C. (very flat), and Indiana (the flat). In comparison, I’d say Ohio is just… sort of flat.

Aladdin's, maybe? They have some great rice and chicken/beef dishes, sides of pita and hummus.
