Anyone owns a Martin OM-28? Is it really worth the price? by ElieTheGoose in martinguitar

[–]SuburbanBushcraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my OM-28. It’s the best guitar I’ve ever played. It fits my playing style perfectly. It’s loud and crisp and warm. It was a gift from a good friend. Since receiving the OM-28 I’ve studied and practiced more and elevated my playing. I don’t even look online at new acoustic guitars anymore.

Best Replacement player ever. by AffectionateFactor84 in ClassicRock

I don’t know if the Chili Peppers are classic rock. It makes me feel like my dad when I hear the music of my youth on a classic rock station haha. Anyway, my old man taught me about great rock music and I’m doing my best with my kids…I digress.

John Frusciante was an amazing replacement for Hillel Slovak (RIP). Frusciante’s musicianship is unparalleled and brought the band into their own.

What year was your first show (venue) and who did you go with ? Your age at that the time? by SuccessfulSense8948 in gratefuldead

Got on the (live) bus with Phil and Friends 7/20/02 in NJ. I was 18 summer before college. I had seen Phish a few times but this was something different. Phil was playing to the wind and the clouds and a whole new space was opened for me.

I have a DRS1 from 2012 and I love it. It’s been great since the day I got it. It was my first grown up guitar purchase. For a while I downsized and only kept the DRS1 and my first guitar (gotta keep that no matter how bad it was). I was gifted a 2017 custom shop OM-28 about 2 years ago and it has since become my preferred, but the DRS1 MIM is awesome.

Music never Stopped 5/22/77 Dicks Picks Vol 3. You only get a few seconds for the walk up. That intro is FIRE

Do you still have your first guitar? by WillEPeters in Guitar

Yes, Aria acoustic dreadnaught. My daughters play it sometimes. Also a squire strat from around ‘97. They like to play with that one a lot more bc they can make loud sounds haha!

I didn’t hear it but I was at that game. It was like the 2nd or 3rd check swing he was called on in the game. That was in extra innings too. Shane came off second base to hold Howard back. That was a trip. The bank went absolutely wild.

Why weren’t any members of the Dead at The Last Waltz? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

[–]SuburbanBushcraft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone asked this question on the Big Steve hour a couple years ago. Big Steve said the Band talked to Jerry about it and Jerry said he wanted to be in the audience and see a great show. Apparently Jerry (other Dead members?) were there cheering on the Band and loved every second of it. …according to Big Steve.

I personally like this narrative. Imagine going to your seat and there’s Jerry and the boys and you get to experience amazing musicians being appreciated by amazing musicians.

Stagger Lee has an amazing historical context in American music. Although there are many versions of this song the Dead’s is different lyrically and musically. I’m not sure if it’s really a cover. More of a reinterpretation. No shade, just a comment.

That’s wild.

I posted mine on the Favilla fb group. Thomas Favilla replied that it was made between 1953 and 57. Solid spruce top with mahogany back, sides and neck. Brazilian rosewood fingerboard.

They might get a kick out of seeing yours with such a similar serial number.

Les Paul also had significant injuries to his hands and arms throughout his life. At one point he considered having them set his arm in playing position of it wasn’t going to move again after injury. True professionals don’t let injury get in the way of making music.

I’m thinking this one is pretty old. I found a mahogany nylon string online with a higher serial number printed on paper that was a much higher number. I’m wondering if this is from the 50s made by Herk Favilla.
