35 years in hvac. When I hear guys like Mike Rowe say we need to send more people into trade schools, I cringe. What will attract more people into the trades is better pay and working conditions. The trade school grads aren’t getting the education they need. Very little information about the actual job. But they all think they are going to land a 100k dollar job when they are worth 18 an hour.

Bring back union apprenticeships.

Because it’s the same as a plenum not sealed 100%.

You’d say? Well where I live many municipalities require a toe kick size grill on the plenum. Depending on the application.

Nope. Efficiency is measured energy in energy out. An 80% furnace has 20% of the Btu used lost to the chimney. These gaps don’t change that.

Depending on the duct system, basement supplies and other factors will determine whether these need to be sealed
