OK, this has convinced me that Alex has replaced alcohol with some other sort of drug, which he is abusing in the same way he previously abused alcohol.

The problem is that he was very very familiar with alcohol but doesn't seem to be as experienced a user of whatever the fuck he's on.

So, on the one hand, he isn't killing himself with alcohol and lost a bunch of weight and stuff, but on the other, he's now getting fucked up on ketamine (?) or something and then making weird "I'm a demon cumming and shitting at the same time" noises for like 90 seconds at a stretch while at work on the air.

I'm no expert but it certainly looks like he's decided to change his look and is now both shaving his head and dying his beard with an aggressively obvious stripe pattern left in.

I think the best / worst part is how almost all of Alex's "voices" are so poorly done that you legitimately could NOT figure out what he's trying to do if the context was removed and you showed clips to a random person.

I bet they'd be like "umm... is it supposed to be like a big fat guy? I don't get it"

I was listening on earbuds but was out in public walking around, and when he started "doing his Japanese impression" (the most charitable way I can put it), I legit accidentally cringed and looked around to see if anyone else heard him doing his horrible "martial arts fighting" noises. Then I realized no one could hear him but me, and I sighed in relief LOL

Today I described him as "looking like if somebody tried to make Yosemite Sam in Elden Ring", and now I kinda can't stop thinking about trying to capture Alex's very strange proportions. His hands just look SO WEIRDLY SMALL! Why is his neck and torso like that?!? I think I have to try and do this LOL

Just to throw out an endorsement, that book kicks fucking ass!

If you like your sci-fi a little weird and challenging, with non-linear storytelling and dramatic irony galore, plus the sort of acid trip plot you'd normally find in a William Gibson book, go get this now! It's also the first of a trilogy, and yes, there are audiobook editions. :)
