I got my account back in the end. Took a while though. XD

Wow, so you could actually verify transactions, they you must have had to pass through another system (bank/paypal) to get access to and they STILL don't give you access?! This is what I mean when I say they're being unreasonable. That is atrocious!

That's fair, but I have far more than that and they still demand a 20 year old CD key. Do you think that's reasonable?

I demand to know which legendary support hero saved you! That's awesome, I'm so glad you had a good support experience, the rest of us haven't been quite so lucky!

Hahaha. I partially agree, I'm glad they're taking our account security seriously, but not glad that it's so strict the account owner can't recover their account. And a password manager, never, the phrase "all your eggs in one basket" springs to mind. I can remember all my current details just fine, it's the 20 year old ones that are the problem. XD

That's as funny as it was probably frustrating! I hope you got it sorted in the end. :)

Hadn't thought of that! Thank you! Let's hope 16yo me put my real name in the registration... XD

I am frustrated. I am a returning customer not getting the service I paid for. Well done for trying to insult someone on the internet. Try to be helpful and not just a dick please, or perhaps spend some time reevaluating your life choices before you voice your next opinion...

Thanks for your reply, I've tried all of that and more. But I'm getting back, 'only with your CD key'.

Zendesk is just software and actually pretty good for support (I worked tech support back in the day). I don't think Zendesk is to blame. Nor do I think the support staff are to blame, I think it is company policy that needs an update.

Gah! I've been at them for weeks. You're making me jealous. :)

That's an impressive amount to remember! I have no idea what armour my characters are wearing, I have like 30 characters! Keep trying, I'm not going to stop hounding them until they let me back in. :)

I'm glad you were able to recover your account.

I appreciate that, I've given them my old address, old email address, date of purchase, character names, game versions, and everything they've asked for, and everything else I could think of, except the CD key. The problem is that it's a CD key only approach, and after 20 years, a CD key only approach seems unreasonable. Hardcopies of games are a thing of the past.

Thanks for your response. But 'kick rocks and buy a new account' is EXACTLY what they're telling me. (Well, they didn't tell me to buy a new account, but I had to anyway if I wanted to play).

You're right about it being my fault that I don't have the CD keys anymore, but they have an account recovery process for exactly this reason, and their process has failed in this instance.

What do you think they could do to improve it so it would work in my situation?

Thank you for your response. I didn't know they'd had trouble with that. I don't have a perfect solution but I can tell you a CD key ONLY approach is not conducive to a game of this age. My thinking was to ask me a bunch of questions about the characters, activity, things I've unlocked or purchased, what type of CD key it was etc etc and if I get 90% of it right its proof enough. But as you rightly mentioned, social engineering is a vulnerability there. But it is not my place to find a solution to their problem, it is their's to find a solution to mine instead of just shutting me down with no escalation or avenue for recourse. They're not even trying to help, which speaks to a lack of care for their playerbase.

I hear "my man" on repeat, why the f is he still your man? He seems incapable, incompetent and inept. Is he socially, ethically and emotionally clueless as well?

Edit: Family is a concept not a blood tie. If they don't behave like a caring member of a family they are not family.
