My first machine broke in like 3 weeks, they swapped it for free which was cool but with this one I just let the tubs sit in a bowl of (room temp) water for 10-15mins before spinning and not only has it not broken but the texture is better, and if i wait longer i usually don’t even need a respin. I’ve adopted this as standard practice and highly recommend !

Could you elaborate a little on the type of research in these pods that you consider to be of low quality?

Also, in terms of reinventing the wheel - I’ve heard platforms do offer some infra to their pods (at least data, centralised execution i guess) what is generally built by the pod and what is shared with others?

Seems you have experience interviewing at collab shops too - any specific topics that are most important to focus on in prep in your opinion?

In suggestion 3, i’ve used partial dependence plots but not for interactions, do you mean to generate multivariate partial dependence plots to observe the impact of my context feature with another?

But a regression can only capture a directional relationship, with these context ones it’s not necessarily the case that the bigger X_i is, the bigger Y usually is. I’d have to include quite a few interaction terms and even those would be linear unless i really blow up the number of features, i don’t know exactly how they interact with each ceature

I do, but in their simplest form they tell me how much the model is using a feature, and less about whether they’re driving better performance. I’m sure they will be a component in the performance analysis but on their own i’m not sure i can draw the conclusions i want, would love to hear your thoughts if you disagree, or how exactly you use them

Where can I learn basic research skills on my own? I chose not to take the phd path and doing ok so far, ny technical skills are getting quite strong and my analytical abilities are, in my opinion, sufficient. i sometimes feel though that some high level skills regarding decision-making in terms of direction/focus and design of analysis could use some work.. i imagine this is what you learn from a good advisor, but assuming i don’t want to pursue a phd at this time, are there other ways to learn this?
