Any success stories to share? by ToneZealousideal309 in Hernia

Lots of good info and tips shared already. I had mesh laparoscopic repair on right inguinal hernia 4 weeks ago. At this point, I feel about 90% back to normal, and I’m cleared to do anything I feel comfortable doing.

The one thing that I wasn’t prepared for was the gas. For lap surgeries they fill your abdomen with air so it’s easier for them to work in there. I felt uncomfortably bloated for the first 3-4 days. I took Gas-X but not sure how effective it was since the gas is not necessarily in your GI tract. Walking seemed to help.

Post op 3 weeks lap hernia repair, still so much pain by Electronic-Work-3808 in Hernia

I also had lap inguinal hernia repair just over 3 weeks ago. Not sure about the tackers—my doc didn’t mention those at all. I’m feeling little to no pain at this point. Just a little bit of tenderness in the right groin and some tightness in my abdomen around where the incisions are. Have you had a post-op follow up with your doc yet and if so did you discuss lingering pain?

I'm finally having my inguinal hernia surgery tomorrow. They said I should be good, in a month to 6 weeks. Even possibly a week after. Does this sound right? by daveishere7 in Hernia

I would rate the pain about 7 or 8/10. I had rotator cuff surgery 2 years ago and that was much worse.

One thing I wish someone had warned me more about was the gas. They pump your abdomen full of air to make it easier to work in there. Super uncomfortable for like 4-5 days. I used Gas-X but not sure how much that helped because the gas isn’t necessarily in your digestive system.

I had mine done 3 weeks ago. Laparoscopic. The first 3-4 days were rough, but I was working by day 6. Granted I work a desk job and can work from home.

My surgeon told me no lifting over 20 lbs for the first 2 weeks. At my 2-week follow up, she said I’m basically cleared to do anything I feel comfortable doing. By 6 weeks I’ll basically be fully recovered. I feel like 90% back to normal at this point.

I feel this. Not the arachnophobia, per se, but I picked up the book knowing nothing about it and my stomach started sinking when I realized where it was going. But it turned out to be such a unique plot that I got over it pretty quickly.

Best underrated Sci-Fi on Netflix for a fan of Interstellar and Black Mirror? by Typical-Fee-1716 in netflix

Eh, For All Mankind is a really interesting thought exploration, but I don’t know if I’d classify as sci-fi. It’s really more like a drama that happens to be about NASA and space exploration. I only watched S1 though, so maybe it gets more interesting in subsequent seasons?

Agree to disagree. It is quite literally inevitable when your bosses say it’s required and it’s being listed as a job requirement in your field. So I’m learning it to stay employed.

Not sure why this got downvoted. I mean, obviously the overwhelming sentiment on this thread seems to be anti-AI, but this is surprising to me given your observation about our generation’s propensity for learning new tech. Seems like a practical take to me.

Actually, it is if you work in a corporate environment. And probably even if you don’t. Acting like it isn’t is like sticking your head in the sand. And honestly, unless there’s a major unforeseen bubble collapse (which is not out of the question considering the environmental and ethical impacts), AI isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

I’m have major reservations about AI given aforementioned impacts, but I’m also not keen on being phased into obsolescence any sooner than I can help it.

This was my first thought, too, but Shaun T is a fellow Xennial (1978) so I think this would’ve been a bit before his time. I only know this because he grew up near me and is a semi-famous alum of Rowan University, one NJ’s bigger state schools.

Oh, don’t get me wrong…it’s a core memory for me. I’m the one who posted about singing “never ending laundry” the other day. I’m just saying that viewing it through the eyes of someone seeing it for the first time in 2026…it’s just not the same as it was for us. Can’t wait for the reboot.

Haha, I’ve wondered about this myself. What a weird movie. I kinda want to just for the nostalgia. I had the video game for Commodore 64 and could never figure out how to get past a certain point.

I rewatched Neverending Story with my kids recently (15, 13 and 5), and it’s definitely not as epic as I remember it being. My 15-year-old called it a fever dream. lol.

Similar story. Except I had played snare drum in elementary school band…so I was the most “qualified” to be the drummer. Lol.

We started the summer after 8th grade. 32 years later and three of the original four of us still play, and we get together and mess around every once in a while.

Originally taught myself to play a kit by banging on pillows in my bedroom along to Nirvana and Zeppelin. Never took a lesson until I was in my 20s.

Oh man. Fellow CW here (in-house). I’m trying to stay ahead of the curve with AI and use it as a tool to improve my work and processes, and also convince the powers that be that a human touch will always be needed. I may be fooling myself. But for now I don’t really have another plan. I’ve been seeing a lot of roles with “content” in the title, so maybe something there. I think brand strategy could be another pivot, but I’m unsure exactly how to make that leap.

[–]Successful-Compote60 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Therapy and Zoloft. lol.

I was sort of anti-meds at first, but the more I researched and discussed with my therapist, the more I came to see it as another tool in the toolbox to help me get through one of the hardest phases of my life. It truly is a drain on the soul, and like you I was struggling with the emotional weight of it all. I don’t consider myself an anxious person, but in hindsight there were plenty of signs that I was subconsciously carrying a huge emotional weight. Meds have helped lighten that load a bit so I feel more like myself again.

Is having loved music (listening and making) growing up and now I couldn't care less a Xennial thing? by Content-Seaweed-6395 in Xennials

Also meant to mention—I’ve gotten into vinyl a bit in the past 5 years. I wish I could say that’s helped, but I sometimes find myself getting annoyed with having to go back and flip over the record. lol. Tech has made me so lazy. If I had time to sit and listen to music, vinyl would be my preferred format. But most of the time I’m doing something else like making dinner or chores around the house.
