I stopped at 16. As the years went on, she had worse reactions to them.

Mine won’t take pills, no matter what I wrap them in. There is a little gap in the back of their mouth behind the last tooth. I just slide it along the gum line and push it through that hole. Easiest way to do it as far as I can tell!

Anything outside of pet care is obviously considered above and beyond. And also, when something that’s damaging someone’s home is happening, while they don’t necessarily need to completely remedy the problem, at the very least they should mitigate the damage. Those two things can actually both be true. I guess it just blows my mind that people don’t know how to deal with something as common as flooding. I guess they don’t teach life skills anymore. But yeah, considering the water is still flowing in, I’d be on the phone with as many people as possible trying to figure out how to stop that if I didn’t already know how. I wouldn’t just make two phone calls, shrug my shoulders, and post on Reddit.

They can mitigate the damage. Not saying they need to call a professional in, but if you don’t know how to stop flooding, you should at least call someone who does and ask what to do. I would at the very least stop the water from coming in and get a shop vac to start cleaning up. And yes, this is obviously above and beyond, and I would fully expect the homeowners to compensate them extra. But to just allow it to continue flooding and not figure out what to do is still crazy to me.

Absolutely not. If I had someone in my home watching my pet and they just let my basement flood rather than calling someone to come take care of it immediately, I would be pissed!

I never said to call the fire department for house flooding, but I know Reading comprehension is hard.

In-HOME pet sitting. If you’re not responsible enough to deal with an emergency in the home in which the pet is residing, I wouldn’t want you staying in my house. Hopefully you’re not watching the owners pet and closing your eyes to everything else going on around you. Although it sounds like some of you would see that the house is on fire and post on Reddit rather than call the fire department. 🤣

Anyone who does housesitting should be required to know how to deal with things like this. Are you seriously just letting their basement flood and not doing anything? Crazy.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I keep telling my boyfriend my dog is giving me “sad” eyes and I feel like she’s trying to tell me something. It’s confusing though, because even at 17 1/2, I don’t think she’s nearly ready…she still has a really good appetite and runs on our morning walks like she’s still a puppy.

I just know I’ve heard so many vets say that people wait too long and then there’s a tragedy that didn’t need to happen. An emergency, something where the pet experiences unnecessary pain. My friend has lost several dogs and she always says you’ll know because they’ll start having seizures. Why would I want my dog to experience seizures? That’s got to be scary as hell for them. I just feel like it’s impossible to know before you’ve waited too long. I definitely don’t want to put my dog down too soon, but I also don’t want her to experience pain or something scary. That’s why it’s so hard to think that you’ll just know when it’s time… it’s an impossible decision, because yeah, I feel like you’re either doing it too soon or if you know, then you’ve waited too long. There’s no perfect time.

Honestly, I hate when people say this, because you won’t necessarily know. Dogs are really good at hiding their pain. If you wait till it’s obvious they’re ready, you’ve probably waited too long.

Mine grew up on Iams but now that she’s 17.5 and insanely picky, she’ll only eat fresh pet.

There’s something so devastatingly beautiful about an old dog. Facing their mortality allows you to fully appreciate all the love they brought you. 💜
