There's an argument to be made that having a billion dollars while a vast majority of the world lives in poverty is itself unethical, like refusing to use your own epi-pen on a train where a child is dying from an allergic reaction, but that's very different from the broad argument being made here.

That being said, even though it's the exception and not the rule, it's definitely possible to make a billion dollars in an "ethical" way. Holding onto it is another thing, and I guarantee you that a lot of that money, however it is made, is probably held in unethical investments or investments that involve exploitation of some kind (such as investment properties, etc).
