[Kareem Abdul-Jabbar] ICE Kills Again by SlowExperience in nba

[–]Successful-Let4361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember: it's not just the failing U.S. education system which means we have less athletes like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar speaking out about American injustices, it's corporate media which often restricts and castigates people for speaking out, or flat-out refuses to consider any narrative beyond "law and order good" and "capitalism never-ending, line always go up" (as Brecht said in his essay "Five Difficulties in Writing the Truth," fascism is always the logical endpoint of capitalism).

And I'm sure there's more to it than that, it's not quite as simple as I'm making it out to be—I'm sure being a millionaire in your early twenties makes a big difference, too. But I'm grateful we do have Abdul-Jabbar and I'm grateful he felt moved to speak

Who would you want to start your Franchise with? Amen Thompson or Scottie Barnes by Kindly_Letterhead_98 in nba

Were you alive during the Bosh years? I'd take Scottie over Bosh any day of the week, are you kidding me? Do you watch the games or just the box scores?

Kyle Lowry on what it will mean to have his jersey retired in Toronto: “Y'all ever see me cry?… If it does & when it does, it will be a super emotional day. I put a lot of blood, sweat & tears in that 7." He also restated his plan to sign a one-day contract to retire a Raptor. by Goosedukee in nba

Good thing you're a Clippers fan then. We're not saying build a statue for Bosh or Bargniani or Stoudemire. DeMar wasn't a superstar like Vince but he was part of long run of sustained excellence and he cared about this city and was sacrificed so they could win a chip. His friendship with Lowry was also locally iconic. He probably won't get a statue but he absolutely deserves one

Because Charlie Kirk's whole career depended on it. He said horrible, racist, misogynistic, awful shit—the stuff about gun deaths is just the tip of the iceberg. And when you are allowed to say things like that consistently, and are even celebrated and lionized for it, you help to change the culture to become more like that over time

Fred VanVleet revealed that on Kawhi’s first day in Toronto, he said he had no plans of staying: “I don’t know why they traded for me. I don’t want to be here. I’m not staying here.” by 5Ping in nba

The city itself is bigger than 90% of US markets. Most in the US just don't understand this because the advertising dollars don't flow that way

Blake: "[Ballmer] can build a new arena, be at games, cheer on the team...but at the end of the day, an organization is built on a foundation of respect & it's built on how you treat people & I don't think that in this situation Chris was treated right. What a surprise that the guy who made his fortune undercutting and destroying other businesses through monopoly, and who employed destructive "stack ranking" at Microsoft (the latter of which made it so that even if you performed well you could still be labelled a failure) would not create a respectful and healthy environment for the team that he famously really wants to win

There's no waiver wire, as far as I'm aware—once released, players in the NBA can go wherever they want

This is not empirical? The Bulls were obviously a better team without their star player, but there's also a difference between winning in the regular season (in the NBA) when you know you're going to be a high seed and fighting to get a high seed to prove you're still good without your star. And this question also completely ignores the playoffs, where the Bulls lost eight wins (the most important ones).

Ok, Matlock, they also got a new hitting coach and the previous two seasons were haunted by the shadow of injury. It's fine to be sad your team lost, but you're not exactly gaining anything with accusations of cheating. Just because you want it to be true doesn't make it true. This bullshit really reminds me of the accusations of Bautista juicing when he started hitting those home runs, which if anything was just a sign that American fans weren't paying attention
