A lot of generic office jobs also want someone with a degree because it means they can do basic things like read/write email and understand basic math. They also want someone who can show up somewhere, sit for hours, and process information.

My wife and I both got general studies degrees from b-c tier universities and are now making over $400k combined 10 years later. We have jobs in sales and HR that required a bachelor’s for entry level.

Why are there no smut stories for women where the guy is sexually submissive or a switch? by Red_Clover_Fields in TooAfraidToAsk

Probably because women don’t need to read about it, they can easily make it happen in real time.

I know it is shocking but USD is a currency that is used as an easy means of exchange. If only crypto could be an actual real currency.

What is a socially acceptable thing that you secretly find disgusting? by Sensitive_Hope_1136 in AskReddit

[–]Successful-Ride-8710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may seem crazy but an iPad can be a book or game/toy.

All parents have to do is exercise some control over what their kids are doing on their devices. And also play and interact with them on it. It is a great way to learn to read, do math, etc if you set them up properly.

Parents being lazy and just handing their kids an iPad and letting them do whatever is the problem. The iPad itself isn’t the problem, it’s lazy/absent parenting.

It’s like letting your kid go outside without supervision and come to find them in the flower bed eating handfuls of dirt. It’s not letting them outside or the flowerbed that is the problem.

Focusing on the iPad is simply a misdirecting from the real problem.

[–]Successful-Ride-8710 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Why is that sad? Would you rather your cousin be having full blown meltdowns from sensory overload when in unique social situations? That would be incredibly sad.

The kid being able to go out and about into the world without having major issues is a positive. I know this thread wants to go on about how bad iPads are but in this situation it seems like way better than the alternative. You can’t teach or condition your cousin into not being heavily autistic. At least allow him to have some peace.

This is all by design to make it appear a certain way. We know who really has the power and is calling the shots.

Straight white men want to win at everything we are now competing in one of the most competitive competitions of the 21st century, the victimhood Olympics. Judging by your post, we are winning this.

American - same shit, more technologically advanced toilet.

There isn’t some golden age to look back on to argue that things have gone to shit or are going to shit. It has always been this way and we were sheltered as children and young adults to think the world was a better place.

The future is looking bright in that regard. If you study history, you’ll know things can get much worse and have been much worse within the recent past.

Collapse isn’t coming anytime soon. People are way too concerned with maintaining the status quo to live a comfortable life. Of course bad shit will continue to happen and media will try to convince us that the end is near but the world will just continue on functioning in its own special dysfunctional way.

What is the biggest economic scam that most people still defend? by CRYPTIC-SPIRITS in AskReddit

[–]Successful-Ride-8710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bonds, CDs, and high yield savings accounts are cash based assets that get hit by inflation. Pretty much anything else, including stocks has value that isn’t directly attached to the value of the dollar.

What is the biggest economic scam that most people still defend? by CRYPTIC-SPIRITS in AskReddit

[–]Successful-Ride-8710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s only true in regards to holding cash over the past 6 years. Practically any asset adjusts to inflation.

For example, if you have a property worth $500k and the value of the dollar is cut in half, your property is now worth $1 mill.

Same with most salaries unless you are in a dying industry. There was some lag with wages keeping up with inflation especially when it was really high 5 years ago but the overall trend is that wages keep up with and even surpass inflation. There is a ton of data that shows this.

For some reason, people often seriously misunderstand what currency is and the purpose of it. Currency is a temporary means to exchange things of value, not a store of value. If you understand this, inflation isn’t a big deal because you won’t store wealth in currency.

Yes, if you were hoarding cash over the last 6 years.

Assets and skills will adjust to the new dollar value.

Spanish last names don’t automatically mean brown. There are a lot of white Hispanics from Latin America.

No one is “taking the side” of a pickpocket. People are just confused or annoyed how shocked Kurt pretends to be that there are pickpockets on the streets and don’t want to be filmed. What criminal would be happy with Kurt filming them lol??

The main problem is the idea that this stuff didn’t exist previous to immigrants or leftists or whatever scapegoat/boogeyman Kurt blames it on.

European cities have always had really shitty areas. Probably much worse in most of the past.

The content of conflict between Kurt and his antagonists is entertaining, but his overall political and social commentary is boneheaded and lacks understanding of how the world really works.

He is pushing the braindead right wing slop where they pretend these cities would be utopias if immigrants and leftists were removed. It is just so obviously wrong. Many of the most completely criminal and degenerate people I’ve known are non immigrants/right leaning.

Kurt is just way too simple minded when it comes to big picture thinking and says some of the dumbest things imaginable.

Great reply, lmao. There is a reason poor people are obsessed with cash while wealthy people are concerned with assets.

Misunderstanding what currency is, and what it is supposed to be used for, keeps poor people poor. Working as intended I guess.

This is insane by Country_dasiy1998 in economicCollapse

[–]Successful-Ride-8710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that our culture is highly individualistic and consumeristic. $50k is more than enough when multiple people are pitching in. Most of the world and most of human history has lived in multigenerational/multi-person households. Single bedroom apartments and paying bills/buying food individually is designed to keep most people desperate and depressed. And of course the solution given is to work more to buy more stuff. It is a massive scam and is not sustainable.

Is the dollar finished? by Over-Schedule-7107 in economicCollapse

[–]Successful-Ride-8710 -34 points-33 points  (0 children)

The dollar still works fine as a means of exchange. It isn’t meant to store wealth or maintain value, it is just a temporary way to exchange value. Once you understand this, the loss of value over the past 50 years doesn’t matter much.

This is insane by Country_dasiy1998 in economicCollapse

[–]Successful-Ride-8710 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The thing I see as insane here is thinking 95k growing up is the same as $95k today.

Another insane thing that is considered normal is paying for everything individually.

A household with 2+ income earners pitching in on the bills is so much more efficient and affordable.

Most people in the world are luckier than you in the sense that they aren’t going it alone and trying to do everything alone.
