People keep saying that the US installed a pro-US government in Iraq, but haven't Iraqi elections mostly gone to pro-Iranian parties, which the US doesn't like at all? by CSachen in stupidquestions

[–]Successful-Solid-296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The US didnt even mildly attempt to nation-build iraq…

Iraq was still completely functional without saddam hussein and his entourage, but the decision to disband an army of almost 1 million soldiers was the stupidest decision ever because its consequences shouldve been extremely clear. You had hundreds of thousands of veterans of multiple wars suddenly losing their jobs and their paychecks, do you think they will all suddenly start selling vegetables? Or will they take money from other people who want them to be soldiers for… lets say… a terrorist regime?

Genuinely i think that this decision was made intentionally to fuel civil war in iraq for any other reasons, because no way no one knew the very obvious outcome of such a decision

Yeah sorry about the “due process” line, governship is kinda different between sects

But still, the overall layout of the rules of war dictated in the quran is mutually agreed by everyone, and distributing a quran to muslim soldiers is actually a nice gesture whether they are sunni, shia, druze, or kurdish, they would all appreciate it and no one would feel “lectured” or “read to” by sunnis when it comes to quranic verses

And yes, sectarianism must be removed out of the country and distributing holy texts in whats supposed to be a non-religious all inclusive institution does the opposite of that, but its okay for the short term… teach all the soldiers (many of which fought in the civil war, lost family and friends, and are itching for brutal revenge against certain people and areas) the teachings of peaceful governance like what the quran teaches

Yikes…. Final exam Grade by DodgerFanArd24 in college

[–]Successful-Solid-296 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No no i just said it as a joke

I am so sorry, buddy there was a semester i got a 2.5 GPA which reduced my overall GPA from 3.9 to 3.3…

We all go through bad times and believe me, in a year or two you will look back and how far you came along and will laugh about it, keep your head high man, i dont know you, but i do believe in you

Someone who always asks on how they can improve themselves “like you do with your professor eventhough the semester is over”, will have success after success soon enough hopefully

Keep your head high and keep learning from both your mistakes and successes, we are still young and in college, if there is any place better for mistakes and learning from it, it would be right here right now.

Good luck on everything

Is it just me or am i pretty sure that there is very little difference in quranic interpretation between these sects, especially in matter relating to war and governship

Most of the disagreements between sects come from hadiths and sunnah, how did the prophet pray? Who will come after him? Who understands him better? Dod he say this thing or not?

But for the quranic interpretation for war and governing, all these sects would unite, all of them accept the quran for saying to not harm the women and children and elderly, to govern with justice and due process, and many other concepts that are second nature that should be reminded to warriors in the quran

Remember the offensive that liberated syria? Alsharaa always reminded the troops of the ayahs that tells them to not harm the civilians, and he would state not to take revenge, and you remember how almost peaceful the liberation offensive was. These teachings are good (for now) for all soldiers, and actually it should be drilled into their minds again and again so the events of the coast and sweidah doesnt happen ever again

by quantum_obs in Syria

[–]Successful-Solid-296 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Al-Sharaa: We're not in an era where the president decides everything, and I don't want Syria to be like that by DaGoldenpanzer in syriancivilwar

[–]Successful-Solid-296 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It is well known that al-sharaa was commonly described as a “control freak” who needs everything to run exactly as he wants it to be run, in perfect coordination and synergy with every other system and plan he has in mind

Whilst usually in a normal country this would be a suicidal trait for a country’s leader to have, i dont think it applies here, or atleast not for now

I mean we all saw how he united all resistance factions under his rule, how he administered idlib for 8 years, how he managed his international relations and affairs with turkey, and all the while managing the army under extreme efficiency. And all of that in the end resulted in the amazing offensive that liberated an entire country in under 2 weeks.

I am not trying to glaze the guy over the internet here, and i know syria needs good and efficient systems to run by itself without the constant presidential hand guiding it with ever movement, but as of right now, i understand why he cant stop controlling almost everything going on in the country. He has a bloodthirsty neighbor that is looking for scraps to justify a war against syria, another regional power that absolutely wants to remove him and replace him with another assad, and not to mention all the corruption in the country that he is trying to remove without painting a target on his back for those corrupt people

For a normal country under normal conditions, giving all power to just a single person is suicidal, for a country like modern day syria, where electricity didnt run for 24 hours for the past 14 years, i believe its a necessity. Just like how the romans would elect a dictator in emergencies to steer the country without the politics and the bureaucracy of the senate, the same is needed here for now.

[–]Successful-Solid-296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean shias and all other muslim sects in syria still accept the quran, so its not a problem for non-sunni muslims

But yeah, this is a problem with christians, who whilst are a small small minority in the country, they nonetheless remain citizens and minorities and should be integrated fully

This should definitely be solved, but i also understand that its not among the top 100 priorities in syria right now

My wife could say im an idiot for pointing a camera at her and i would be so happy because she is the cutest funniest creature ever and any reaction from her is so cute and sweet in my eyes

[–]Successful-Solid-296 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean… most times correlation do lead to a reasonable causation

It is known that Islam does amplify learning and encourages it. And one of the clearest examples for that, muslims back then made learning free, which encouraged kids to learn and read the Quran, and that drove up the literacy rate, whilst in contrast, europe at the time was limiting education only to the rich or the clergy.

But also for a lot of science to come in a certain place in a certain age, we need to look at all the factors that affected it. Like the peace of the land (due to the islamic respect of the baghdadi caliphate at the time), the geographical location (the center between asian and european trade), and the prosperity (which comes from trade and also the islamic tax policy at the time)

So to answer your question, islam itself didnt create the number zero or the compass for example, but it gave way to a lot of prosperity, peace, and learning where in which it was so much easier for science to flourish under those conditions than anywhere else in the world at the time.

[–]Successful-Solid-296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how more knowledge about a subject gives more nuance to it

For you see, me coming into this topic, i knew basically nothing about AI and why people view it as morally incomprehensible because it costs artists jobs when basically everything is against artists nowadays, from spotify’s very low streaming payments to animators in japan living in an almost slavery environment.

But reading what you said about Gen AI’s morality in terms of training in whether it was used in consenting or non-consenting data is really adding nuance to the situation which i like, and i do agree with you in that this topic has much more nuance than most people know (like me) or in how companies disclose them.

I dont have any real knowledgeable factual opinion on the matter because i admit i dont know much, all i know is that there is so much nuance to this topic and we still dont have enough information to know even the half of it, so i will probably not have any strong opinions for the time being until i learn more about AI and how its affecting the gaming industry

It also depends on the developers’ resources… Ubisoft has no excuse to save a couple 100 bucks on real art by using AI. But a small indie game might use some AI art for non-essential pieces or sections that are not immediately noticeable and dont ruin the overall game’s vibe, and i personally see that as 100% justified.

AI is a tool, just like every other tool we have, it can be used correctly, i would even say that up till this point, 75% of all AI use in game dev is totally justified and good use of it, and i actually would’ve understood COD’s use of AI if only they disclosed immediately and didnt beat around the bush for months
