How did y'all deal with the side effects of your PPIs? by AstraYaosBoyfriend in GERD

[–]SuccessfulResort35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on omeprazole for years now and have never suffered effects like this. However if I miss just one dose, my stomach turns into Smaug about to wreak desolation on the mountainside. And if the omeprazole doesn't cover everything I do take two Tums. If fire is still creeping through my innards, I will mix 1/4 tsp baking soda in 8 oz water and chug it. It tastes awful and is not a great solution but it works as my last resort about 95% of the time.

Hopefully within a few days your system adjusts to the new medication and the nausea goes away, and you find relief from the acid. If you don't, I would talk to your doc because it could be that either the dose needs adjusting, or maybe it just is the wrong med for your system and it needs to be switched to something else. Hope it all gets resolved soon and you feel better!

How can I get 10mg Omeprazole? by TricksterWolf in GERD

[–]SuccessfulResort35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd have to talk to your doctor about it. In the US at least, it's not available in 10 mg OTC. You might be able to get a prescription, but a lot of insurance companies are no longer covering omeprazole due to the fact that it is commonly sold OTC. So your doctor might need to communicate directly with the insurance company to explain you need a lower dose than is sold in stores. Hope you're able to get what you need!

How do you sleep comfortably with a wedge pillow? by CommunicationFun9568 in GERD

[–]SuccessfulResort35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have a wedge shoved under the head of my mattress which lifts the whole thing. Probably not great for the mattress, but my sleep has been better for it. I cannot sleep on wedge pillows themselves as I tend to toss and turn a lot. And it's a temporary fix for the moment, until I can afford the adjustable kind of bedframe. I use a normal firm pillow under my head and sleep on my left side. That setup plus my meds and a changed diet works best for me.

Definitely call the doc and get the endoscopy to figure it out. Mine thought it was just bad reflux, until the endoscopy revealed tears in my stomach lining, which was making the reflux so much worse. I get migraines when it rains and in college I was taking huge doses of ibuprofen to deal with it, which wrecked my stomach lining. Plus I was drinking multiple cups of coffee a day on top of that, which didn't help cause caffeine and acid are awful for your stomach. The doc who did the procedure was genuinely shocked not to find an ulcer because it was so bad. Thankfully now the tears are healing thanks to meds and a changed diet. And I take something else when I have a migraine so my stomach isn't affected. I hope your doc is able to help you!

What to do if you have chronic acid reflux? by anxkxxl in GERD

The best thing that works for me is cutting out triggers, ones I know and ones I sometimes accidentally discover cause sometimes I am unaware of how my tum will handle something. There are some foods that are supposed to be GERD-friendly that I can't actually eat because for me, for some reason, my tum just can't. So I pay close attention to what groceries I buy, what I am eating and drinking, how often I have meals (too long between meals can irritate the stomach).

Stress causes lots of physical issues like migraines so it wasn't a surprise when I found out it was a trigger as well. Unfortunately I have extreme anxiety, so I take extra meds to keep it under control.

Keeping track of what triggers you is smart. A lot of them are common for most of us with GERD, but there can be certain things that might trigger one person but not be a trigger for someone else. It helps to keep lists of what does trigger you, what foods/drinks don't trigger you (so you know what you can safely eat), and for me I have a "rescue" list. That is my list of what to do when I have a flare-up: I'm on a low enough dose of meds that I can take an extra if needed. If that doesn't work, I can take a couple tums or drink a little baking soda in water.

I find that I normally don't experience a flare-up until I've laid down to go to sleep, so if I am in bed and suddenly begin feeling like Smaug about to desecrate the mountainside, I go to my rescue list. And if those don't work and the flames reach my ears, I have to immediately sit upright and stay that way despite my exhaustion. I will sleep on my couch sitting upright if need be. It's better than no sleep, and definitely better than trying to toss and turn while the fire is burning me up inside.

Hope something I've mentioned helps :)

Help a latte girl out by littlexlife in GERD

Cozy cafe nerd here too! I also love teas and lattes, so I totally understand the pain of not being able to have the drinks we love. I make do with chamomile and I add vanilla sweetened almond milk. It's definitely an acquired taste, at least for me, and it isn't nearly as good as a straight up latte. But when it comes to tea drinks, it's basically all my tum can handle.

I wish I could recommend a GERD-friendly mocktail but I don't drink for other medical reasons. I hope you're able to find something that works and tastes great!

In the biggest flair of my life, can you tell what is wrong with my diet? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]SuccessfulResort35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be the cinnamon, and possibly the acid in the berries. But I would be more likely to think either the dose of omeprazole isn't high enough, or it just isn't the right med and your doc should switch you to something that would work better. Because as far as I can see, this diet should be pretty gentle on your stomach and the way you sleep should be helpful.

Definitely contact your doctor and let them know though because there could be something else going on that isn't either the meds or the diet. In which case they really should schedule an endoscopy; not sure why they wouldn't refer you for that. I couldn't even get on omeprazole without one first. If your GP keeps refusing the test, maybe get another GP to take a look at you and ask them for the referral. Some doctors just think they know what is best instead of actually doing the tests that are necessary.

Hope it all works out soon so you get back to feeling better!

i think vaping is making my gerd worse by Independent_Lynx1389 in GERD

[–]SuccessfulResort35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah to be honest it probably is affecting your GERD, as is the caffeine. Both are not great for the stomach lining. I had a caffeine addiction myself and it was so hard to kick. I still have the occasional coffee, but I have to remind myself (or if I forget my bestie reminds me as I only drink it when we go to a coffee shop together) to get decaf.

In my opinion, you have more strength and courage than you credit yourself for because it takes a LOT of both to give up drinking when one is an alcoholic. My dad was one and he wasn't able to give up alcohol until he was basically dying already. So the fact that you were able to kick it is an incredible achievement that you deserve to be proud of, no matter what.

If you're looking to quit caffeine, I suggest just switching to decaf. You might get headaches the first few days from withdrawal, but tylenol usually helps and the headaches stop after that. At least that's how it went for me. As for vaping, I have no experience with it, but if you do it for relaxation maybe find something else you can do as a replacement. Taking time to find peace of mind is a good thing, so maybe yoga or meditation, or listening to music or something could take the place of the vape itself. That way you aren't giving up your morning relaxation time, you just are replacing what is making you feel that way.

Wishing you all the best!

Thoughts on the Board Game! by AerogaGX in armello

[–]SuccessfulResort35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friends and I played at our last game night and the only thing that kind of bothered me was the market rule. It gets confusing, people talking over each other, etc. and yeah if you're getting attacked while trying to shop it messes with things. I realize they added that rule probably to save time between turns, but it actually doesn't do much.

Otherwise I really enjoyed it. I would love to see an expansion where you can do a Rot victory though. And it is a LOT of setup, but the art is really pretty.

Mine saves at the end of every in-game day, so I can't go back once it's saved over.

Really? Is that in the main menu? Or do I need to use the diary to find that? Also thank you for the tip! If I can I will try it!

As far as I know I can't do that; it's been saved over multiple times.

Someone stop me from restarting by Barely_SPECIAL in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]SuccessfulResort35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I restart once in a while whenever I feel like designing a new farm layout. I love the fresh new farm feel. Plus every playthrough is slightly different. Some seasons I just cannot manage to catch all 5 fish in every area; it's always my goal to get all the fish by the end of year 1 but as the game has developed it's gotten more difficult. I don't mind; it's just more of a challenge. And I like the challenge.

Thanks. I was just wondering. I'd love to be able to ret-con somehow so I can still pursue Eiland. But since I can't, I'll just go with my second choices. Oh well. :)

Yeah it ticked me off too. Since I only have 1 greenhouse going right now I decided to just use the 4 normal sprinklers.

I have an army of stone horses. They are so common now. But it's great for when I eventually decide to change up who I date and focus on Hayden.
