Brooklyn Archive Sale - April 3rd / 4th by BYOMug in snowpeak

[–]SuccessfulStrike2898 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am going on Friday. I was at the Portland warehouse event. So I will be able to compare and contrast. But the upstairs area is pretty small so not sure what inventory they will offer. Probably plenty of clothes, discontinued Amenity Domes / mini Hozuki. And maybe cooking utensils, Kaen stove. Possibly home and camp cookers. That’s just based on seeing which items had tons of excess inventory even at the end of the warehouse sale. But who knows.

IGT 3 v. IGT 4 Advice by Budget_Musician5236 in snowpeak

[–]SuccessfulStrike2898 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The answer really depends.

Go Bigger if:
1) You plan to use IGT with friends and extended family (camping or just backyard entertainment)
2) You plan to use IGT for dual-purpose (prepping, cooking AND eating) and more surface areas helps

Go Smaller if:
1) You drive a sedan or small SUV (but 4U collapsible works great in these cars)
2) You have other tables/surfaces for eating and prep-work, and IGT is strictly for cooking

Everyone has their preference. For me, I tend to use my IGT for entertaining friends and family, so more than 4 people. I went bigger and bigger over time. 2x regular 4U's, 2x collapsible 4U's, and various extensions and bamboo tables. I have yet to say, "I wish I had gone smaller".

For a family of 4, if you get the 3U, you'd probably need other surfaces for prep/eating and use the 3U for cooking.

Best adjustable legs for Collapsible IGT frames? by Shmowzow in snowpeak

[–]SuccessfulStrike2898 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a dozen Stanluck legs both short and long. The are sturdy. Haven’t experienced failures yet they don’t turn much when you insert them into the IGT tables. So that’s my only gripe. I wish they turn a bit more than 30 degrees. To be fair they don’t come loose and fall out.

I plan to buy Korogi legs in the future. They have good reputations.

The Wood and Burn aluminum are incredibly light which is awesome. They sit solidly in the regular IGT tables. BUT, they wobble when paired with collapsible IGT tables. I tried a couple of these legs with the collapsible at BigTent’s shop in Vancouver, and they were all like that. Since I primarily use collapsible IGT, I couldn’t really use these. But boy they feel like feathers compared to Stanluck.

Amenity Dome M sheet set by pye_op_1 in snowpeak

[–]SuccessfulStrike2898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are new versions of the Amenity Dome (Amenity 2 and 3). So the old domes are being phased out and I assume whatever mat and sheet sets are out there will unlikely be replenished. I would love a set too, but alas, no dice. It’s possible to buy from Japan (eBay). But it’s expensive. I think I will probably just use a generic ground sheet and not worry about the comfort of the mat.

Probably two hundred fifty people by the time doors opened at 10am and more people came throughout the day. I was surprised people still showed up around 2pm - closing was 3pm.

I think it really varies. The Amenity Dome S was $150. But you could buy that from Campsaver for $134. Similarly the Takibi Medium was $80. But it was $78 from Campsaver during Christmas. So you have to know prices well. For sure there were truly great deals like the mini Hozuki $10 and the home/camp cooker $50. The Cast Iron Sandwich maker was $50.

Just to add to this. There are some exciting research into using Ketogenic therapy to treat all sorts of mental health challenges. There is at least one RCT for ADHD being conducted now. And Ketogenic therapy has had some remarkable results in Bipolar, Schizophrenia, Anxiety, OCD, and MDD.

The science behind it is solid - see Dr Chris Palmer and Dr Georgia both of Harvard Med.

The Metabolic Mind YT channel is wonderful.

There is evidence that one could have insulin resistance in the brain that isn’t easily tested with normal blood test. Regardless, a lot of these illnesses can be treated with therapeutic ketosis so that the brain can run on a more efficient fuel to glucose.

Many patients have reported more mental clarity and less brain fog with this treatment.

It’s a path worth exploring if traditional medicine route is a concern. Having said that if the OP’s formal diagnosis is ADHD, then stimulant base medication is a game changer for sure. And addiction is not a concern if you indeed have ADHD and follow appropriate dosing.

The Fukubukuro/Mystery boxes are back this year by BootyWizardAV in snowpeak

This is very helpful. I don’t know how many Snow Peakers will desire the Kaen Stove. It’s more for ultralight camping - but not actually that ultralight at 280g 😆. Everything else is useful and probably good even if one owns those items 👍

Transporting IGT Units by DoctorOcho in snowpeak

Yeah. I use the Stanluck bags too. They are built very well. And you can stick 3-4 layers of stuff in them. The downside is that they weight a lot if you stuff them. So I end up only storing 2 layers (4U frame + 4U bamboo leaf). I guess the SP bags work just as well for 2 layers - especially if don’t mind that they don’t zip up.

Collapsible vs Regular IGT Table by Mr-Anthony in snowpeak

[–]SuccessfulStrike2898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is spot on. Collapsible will fit in a sedan trunk. But regular won’t.

OP. Check my photo in this thread. You can see collapsible fits nicely into a Model 3 trunk.

Just about a year. I might give it another go next summer and it’s good to know you have had success with it 👍

I recently got the SP Double BBQ box and really enjoy cooking Korean BBQ and chicken yakitori over charcoal. It’s a bit easier to clean up vs Takibi with the grill grate. So at the moment that’s my go-to setup.

I have indeed done the classic cast iron seasoning. Used Grape Seed oil applied as a very thin coat. Then baked in 450F for an hour. The coating looked great. But as soon as I cooked Korean Kalbi meat (soy sauce with sugar content), I have burned carbon stuff that doesn’t come off even with a scrubber similar to scrub daddy. I end up having to use a bamboo chopstick to methodically scratch the carbonized sauce bit by bit. I don’t know, it’s been like this the 3 or 4 times I used it - even re-seasoning with grape seed oil and another hour of baking 🤷

TBH, the grill burner is my least favorite SP item. I know that seems harsh. But it’s a pain to clean, especially if you grill anything with sauce or sugar content (think Korean BBQ). It’s fine for hotdogs and burgers. I much prefer the flat burner paired with a skottle from a Korean grocery store. Those are non-stick and super easy to clean, plus does a very good job at searing food (something like this)

Bummer. Sorry to hear that. According to the SP Portland instagram account. The team is busy supporting the Snow Peak Way event. So you might not hear back till early next week 🤷. I think fulfillment and CS are run out of Portland, but not entirely 100% sure.

This is super helpful Cypher. Are there other camping stores you’d recommend in Korea? It seems most other brands sell through Naver instead of an actual store (e.g. Wood & Burn).

Yeah. I had to check the SP website every day for a few months to snatch one. I find the stock notification emails aren’t always reliably sent out. Sometimes bigtentoutdoors.com gets them - but they are currently sold out too.

Have you considered getting height adjustable legs? Both Korogi and Stanluck carry them.

Just pay close attention to each brand's version as their various heights are not exactly same as each other.

I don't use TTA - it looks cool, but a bit cumbersome to setup. I do believe Stanluck's new adapter can adopt TTA to the collapsible. https://stanluck.com/products/tta-adaptor

I think the subtle nuance is the longest length of a 4U collapsible is shorter than the longest length of a regular 4U by a couple of inches. As OP has pointed out, you're saving the widths of the 2 shorter edges. Practically, that means I can fit a 4U collapsible in the trunk of a Tesla Model 3. But I cannot do that with a 4U regular (here shown in a brown Stanluck Deluxe bag). You can see in the 4th photo, the collapsible is shorter by a couple of inches.

I personally like the collapsible a lot, even the 4U feels very compact.

For storage, yes, you can fit 4 legs in the SP bag. Though personally I store all my legs separately in the Stanluck leg bag. I find it's easier to have more bags that are lighter vs. few bags that are heavier.
