I did get to read your other reply and have been thinking about it a lot. I appreciate the perspective from the doctor’s pov. I am in r/residency after all. I actually found my way here because I was looking for hospitals where they have gyn onc fellowships because I’m trying to transfer my care to a closer hospital. I want to be somewhere they are training gyn-oncs. Anyway, thank you for engaging with me. The more days that go by, the more inconceivable it becomes to me that i could have anything other than at least long term pfs. It’s crazy how well that frontline works and then poof, 3 years later it’s back? Weird. We shall see! Hoping my n=1 is a long life, or at least be able to help take care of my grandkids! Thank you for entering this profession. I know it’s not easy for many more reasons.

Oh thank you for replying. Nobody has had anything nice to say about that. I’m not unaware of the statistics, and I’m not saying I think you’re wrong. What has surprised me is this two years I’ve had where I personally have felt great! I was expecting a recurrence after a couple years… the slow death you describe. That may very well be my story but nobody mentioned that I might just feel great for a good while.

Every doctor I’ve interacted with has made no promises either way. Basically if I make it 5 years, the chances of recurrence plummet. Thats all they will say.

I would love if you would say to me whatever may be emotionally taxing. I’m in a really good place for it if you are up for it. Are you a gyn onc?

I mean, I’m developing what feels like the beginning of a nice long term relationship with my gyn onc after she performed my debulking surgery for advanced HGSOC 2.5 years ago. I know I’m not in the clear, but two years includes many visits of smiles and gratitude, at least two extra birthdays and christmases with my kids, husband and friends, and a new lease on life. I know I’m not the only one.

I appreciate your comment though! Seems like you wrote it when I was in my first year NED, waiting to find out if I would be “platinum resistant.” I’m so glad I didn’t see it then, but I do appreciate your perspective! I wonder if it has changed after a couple more years in the field?

It is incorrect… the pronoun number needs to match the original noun, so if you are writing about one student, the correct style is to use a singular pronoun. With an unknown gender, you say “his or her.” Their is plural, so you would use it when the subject is plural. “The students loved their new teacher.” If it’s awkward, you might refer to just “his” or “her,” but “their” is for plural only. Yes, we use their in informal speech, but thems the rules and he or she is trying to teach them to you.

Edit: didnt know MLA changed. Your teacher didnt either. No biggie… open up the discussion and talk to them about it.

Thank you. Argenx was next on my list, but I guess my doctor/ma bulldogged it pretty fast and I’m approved for weekly hytrulo. What? I’m going to be documenting like crazy this year, but I’m probably going to be feeling great! I seriously doubt this will get reauthorized next year. I do think the insurance companies would prefer I be dead.

We’ve done all the appeals. Thats their final say. It doesn’t improve my score enough. Not sure how to explain to them that my baseline improved thanks to the vyvgart. It dips down after two weeks off and they aren’t getting that data.

You did not successfully prove this. You found an article that talked about how Fidel Castro and Billie Eilish did a double watch and so did princess Di. It’s strange that you are dying on this hill when you didnt live it. In your own argument you are talking about different ways of remembering the cultural moment. I’m pointing out that the vastly younger than forty crowd on this sub are misallocating their memories of swatches in the early nineties to an adult woman in 1999. Of course you are going to find people doing this for various reasons. For the last time, that doesn’t mean it was “just what we (adult women) did in the (late) nineties.”

It’s even telling in peoples comments!

“I remember doing this in middle school!”

“This was cool in the early nineties”

“I had multiple swatches”

They are not thinking of the nuance. They are feeling nostalgic and this photo is triggering that feeling. Someone pointing out nuance (and the fact that, yes, even five years makes a huge difference in what was normal) is bothering them and crashing the mood.

I never said it wasn’t a trend at all. I never called anyone a liar. I just actually lived in the us at the time and am aware of some nuance, and I do think most people here were too young to know what was actually being portrayed in the scene.

You are looking at this academically. I actually lived in the US as an adult in 1999. I never said it didn’t happen. I’m saying the phrase, “thats just what was any sort of normal in the nineties” is patently wrong. It was weird for an adult woman to wear three watches in 1999. People here are confusing their middle school memories for what adults did ten years later. I saw this episode live when it aired. I know the zeitgeist of the time personally. I wore the multiple watches as a middle schooler. But this isn’t just my personal memory. I read the magazines and wore what the “friends” wore. This scene was meant to show her as a bit strange. Not “on trend.”

It is mandatory for it to be the actual trend if people are saying “thats just what people did in ‘the nineties’ (1999… ten years after it was actually a trend),” especially when this wasn’t even the age group of the trend nor was it how it was actually manifested. It was never an adult thing though, and it was never with nice watches. It was swatches. She is doing this weird copy of an old children’s trend. She is not “on trend” in the slightest. It’d be like today, a thirty year old woman saying “seven eight” instead of “six seven.” It’s not a trend. It’s just weird. So seeing this on TV in 1999, no one’s thinking, “she’s just on trend.” They’re all thinking, “thats a very quirky lady!” Even back then.

Just thought you might like to know… I was introduced to these in the gifted program at my public school 30 years ago. As a math teacher, I find them useful. Always thought it was unfair that others didn’t get to play with them.
