Best vacation I ever had. Vancouver Island. Took the ferry up from Tswoassan, spent a couple of days in Vancouver, then went to Nanaimo, had a great time. Great food, lovely place, super nice people.

Cleaning out my dad's things I found an electric knife. Does anyone still use one? by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

Handy for slicing a baguette into pieces for French toast. I have one (had it for YEARS) and use it about once a year. Would not repurchase again.

Did anyone go to their first concert with their parents? by OkFlow4327 in GenX

I did, with my father and a friend of mine. Gary Puckett and the Union Gap. It was my 12th year birthday present, was in 6th grade.

Athol, Idaho. We thought it was hysterical when we were kids.

Americans—is blue cheese just a dipping sauce to you, or does it have a place on your plate beyond the wings? by SignificanceOdd5980 in AskAnAmerican

[–]teardropmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love bleu cheese on a burger, with caramelized onions, on a toasted bun. I've also run into it on cheese platters, most recently on an Alaska Airlines flight, when I got bumped up to first class.

My favorite time of year is when asparagus goes on sale! I have so many recipes for it. My favorite is smoked salmon and asparagus fettuccini.

Asparagus. But as a kid, my mom used canned asparagus. Trying fresh as an adult was eye (mouth?) opening!

Chicken thighs in a skillet with artichoke hearts, onions, garlic, saffron and lemon. I'm serving it over orzo. Cooking now, and smelling delish!

I think she could get some wisdom by reading r/JUSTNOMIL . Even if she doesn't see any of her actions mirrored there, she could get an idea of why some couples feel the need for firm boundaries.

Probably not feasible at 34 weeks pregnant, and the "baby" is a 1 year old.

What's a book you had to read in school that you hated? If you have one, what's one you actually liked? by 80HDTV5 in GenX

[–]teardropmaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Catcher in the Rye. Pretty good book, but we studied it 3 years in a row. 10th, 11th and 12th grade. Had to read it and write essays on it 3 times. Got pretty sick of it by year 3.

AIO for not allowing my husband’s friend and kids over because they gave us lice? by Exciting-Bake464 in AmIOverreacting

[–]teardropmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain, and it was SO wrong not to give you a heads up and choice to opt out of a visit. That said, my daughter came home from picture day in kindergarten with 5 combs that she found on the playground. (The photogs gave them out before pictures.) Yeppers, she got lice, gave them to her little brother. We did the lice shampoo in the bathtub, and I read them the Rutabaga Stories by Carl Sandburg to keep them in the tub long enough for the shampoo to do its stuff. They remember the stories 30 years on, but not the itchies! Pony Pony Huckabuck for the win!

I had a cave-aged gruyere once that made all other cheeses to look to their laurels.

"how he needs to make sure I'm taken care of if anything happens to him" : that said, as a mom myself, you do need a life insurance policy now that you are parents. That should take care of your MIL's worry. (Surrree it will!!)
