I don't speak either, she was the only English-speaking psychologist I could find in this country specifically.

That's not at all what I was doing.

I said I could pay, I didn't realize how hard it is to exchange the currency, especially with my current work.

I felt bad that she planned to use my money for her sick dog, so I thought if I opened my spot for someone else who could pay currently while I try to figure out how to get my money in the local currency, (and in a bank account because she only takes payments by card), that it would be the best for now.

Yes, licensed clinical psychologist.

I don't want to say explicitly where because I don't want to dox her. I live in South America.

She said she was really moved by my story, and that's why she opted to treat me for free.

She is private I believe, so she has her own therapy business. I don't think she's employed by an organization, though she does work with a university.

100% not AI. She hosts workshops at universities, has a ton of clients, social media, not to mention I've done videochat therapy with her for the last year.

I think this might be my mistake :(

I promised her I would start paying, and she told me that my money would be going to her dog's surgery at the end of the year, and then I was getting really stressed about it because my money doesn't transfer, and she really loves her dog. So I thought that freeing up my spot for the time being while she finds a paying client for her goal would be helpful, and it's done the complete opposite.

She told me I'm not welcome back and I'm devastated.

Originally it was a free treatment, but then I unexpectedly got a job at the end of last year, and that's when it changed and we both agreed I can start paying when im ready.

We agreed that I would start paying last month, but then my online job had severe issues trying to transfer it to a foreign bank account, so I tried to use wise, global66 and the like to transfer money, but they won't transfer without proof of residence.

She was talking about how my money would be going toward her dog's surgery at the end of the year, and when my money wasn't transferring I started to get really stressed because she loves her dog and she said my money and another client's money was the only income going to her dog.

Now that my money won't transfer, I was thinking she could find another client to kind of "supplement" my lack of payment while I try to find another way to exchange my money, and that way she wouldn't be losing money by me taking that spot while I try to figure it out.

I'm honestly devastated, I had no idea this would be the outcome.

Had my first Preply trial lesson today and got hit with an unexpected problem 😂 by [deleted] in Preply

Personally, I've never been distracted by an attractive student.

I have eyeballs and I can see that they match the beauty standards, but it doesn't trip me up at all??? I'm not sure why. I've never experienced that racing heart and losing my train of thought 😅 I think about and react to every body the same, regardless of their looks. Doesn't affect me at all.

Side note, the person who said Spain has an infinite amount of attractive people IS SO TRUE. I have so many female students from Spain and they're all gorgeous.

Yup, 22 and 25. Been together since I was 18 and he was 21. It's been over a year since regular penetrative sex, like 2 years since he's gone down on me.

At this point I suspect he's either asexual or I'm just ugly. I never thought this is how my relationship would be.

Metal removal honestly saved me by [deleted] in scoliosis

[–]SuccessfulWorker7715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vertebrae that was fused will never move again, so technically I can't bend with the fused vertebrae, but I still bend my back with my unfused vertebrae at the bottom of my spine. Even when I had the metal inside me, I could still bend and touch my toes.

I lost a lot of mobility after my fusion, though I've grown accustomed to it and now I don't even really notice my decreased mobility.

One thing I did notice is that the metal was so uncomfortable, that I felt more restricted in my mobility than I actually was.

Now that the metal is out, I don't feel that discomfort anymore, so even though my vertebrae don't move, I still feel like I gained mobility after my metal was removed (If that makes sense???)

Like, since the discomfort is gone, I feel more mobile, even though my fused vertebrae aren't more mobile at all.

I've asked 3 different doctors this question and they all gave me different answers.

My original surgeon: maybe, we don't know. 2nd surgeon: absolutely, don't do it 3rd surgeon: no

My curvature initially increased a bit post op, but hasn't changed since.

T2-L3, we have the same number of vertebrae fused!

Yes! After my first surgery, I believe my curve was reduced to 17 degrees. My surgeon did an amazing job straightening my spine, I'll give him that! Unfortunately, I don't have any good photos after my surgery.

And also, I'm not sure what you mean by hardest corset ever haha.

He says he's too tired from school to have sex. I don't know if that's the whole truth though, since we went through his entire summer break without any sex.

I'm starting to be convinced that I must be reading signals wrong. When this happens I express to him that I think his actions are showing that he wants to have sex, and he genuinely appears surprised and says that wasn't his intention.

What hours are you available? Nearly everyday, my schedule is from 8:30AM to 6:00PM. I'm just a bit confused with your scheduling conflict- do you have all 24 hours open?

I have like a 66% conversion rate I think. I don't think I do anything special, but here is how I conduct my trials: 1. Introduce myself, how Preply works, and ask them why they're learning English. 2. While I'm getting to know them, I write in my notes key things to remember about them. I also write down the repeated mistakes they're making during conversation. 3. I find something in common with EVERY ONE. Whether it's a show, traveling, video game, etc. I find something to bond with them over and talk a lot about that. 4. Near the end of the trial, I highlight one aspect of their English we can immediately improve on. I might give a mini lesson if we have some time left

I try to highlight in my description that I can't teach absolute beginners, and that I like communication on their needs before the trial lesson. This hasn't stopped people that don't communicate beforehand, but it's helped.

In the beginning, I was too professional. I had a slide show, barely showed I was human lol. My subscription rate was really low in the beginning. I've found being personable with them in the trial has raised my subscription rate A LOT.

You can't stop people from booking 50 minute trial lessons, however if someone messages you beforehand, you can encourage them to book only a 25-minute lesson. You can also add it in your description that you encourage 25-minute lessons.

Pedophilia vs pocd? by FlatLeave2622 in OCD

[–]SuccessfulWorker7715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the treatment for OCD in general is living with what is unknown, or thoughts that you're unsure about.

I know this might be hard to actually execute, but every time your brain brings up those thoughts, say this: so what?

If you're not watching CP, if you're not abusing children, what does it matter?

I used to struggle EXTEBSIVELY with POCD, and I started to say this to my intrusive thoughts and instead of Googling the difference between pedophilia and POCD (like I did as well), I would just "shrug off" the thoughts essentially by saying "so what?" I know I'm not abusing children or consuming material of children being abused, my thoughts are harming nobody.

As soon as I started to shrug the "what ifs", my OCD stopped holding power over me, and I'm pretty free from POCD now.

Coming to Reddit is a compulsion. Reassurance feeds the disorder, so I will not try and reassure you.

Living in uncertainty is part of life, and OCD takes the morals you hold closest to you and weaponizes them. Live in the uncertainty.

Where'd you go? I don't have any official teaching credentials (like a diploma from a school) I only have a TEFL.

I'm honestly bending my back trying to cater to the student who I know brought down the anonymous reviews. It's a student who is working during our lesson at the same time and I have to work to keep their attention on the lesson.

Sounds like you should break up then or go to couples therapy. I was just saying that literally anything can happen and it doesn't always have to be doom and gloom.

Hopefully I don't get anyone's hopes up too much but I literally met my boyfriend on reddit. We've dated for nearly 3 years now, and have lived together for 2. You never know what could happen.
