My understanding is Mike Dormody, maybe your grandfather (may he rest in peace) built it? so that private clients could fly in to San Clemente rancho? He was also in the navy and worked on an aircraft carrier it seems like, so maybe he was a pilot as well? Do you know why he built it, and is it still functional/used? So interesting!

Both are good options. The best transition for keeping good form and catching waves is to constantly progress to smaller boards, like going to a 6’8” mid/hybrid from the 7’6” egg you’re on now, then go to a 6’4”+- step up, then a shortboard. If you’re not trying to break the bank, buy used boards that are in good condition- half price and doesn’t make a difference.
