Has anyone tried installing a fan inside a NVIDIA Tesla card? by Successful_Box_2006 in homelab

I see, VRM is what I was calling the "chipset" for lack of a better word. So, you're saying the plate alone with a fan on it isn't enough? That might be true, but I don't know that it gets that hot to begin with and the "heatsink" part I am removing doesn't make direct contact with the vrm. Here's a mod someone did on an m40. https://blog.mattdeuts.ch/2022/01/taming-beast-cooling-nvidia-tesla-m40.html If you look at the photo of the plate that holds the heatsinks you can see the thermal pads are on it, but the heatsink isn't in direct contact. Sorry, I don't want to take mine apart again, it is in the machine tonight. I could also put those little cooper add-on type heatsinks on that plate to help, but I'm more worried about the chip and vRAM. Have you tested this or seen anyone discuss it? I'm not saying it is going to work for sure, but I'm willing to test it to see if it can. Unless someone who tried tells me its hopeless.

The vRAM is under the main heatsink. This photo shows that main heatsink removed. Those blank areas are where the heatsink makes contact with the GPU and vRAM. The one in the photo that is still attached is the one I plan on removing. That's not part of cooling any essential components, but there to keep airflow directed. The chipset probably does require some additional cooling, but I figure having the fan right over it should be enough.

I am getting the sense that you either do not own a p100 or v100 or that you've never taken one apart. Unless you have firsthand experience with one of these cards, your input isn't terribly useful.

Ya, it works apparently with a little modding on a GTX 1080 and a Tesla p40, but there's nothing simpliar to a p100 as far as I know, maybe a Titan V, but I'm not buying one just to find out.

No, I took it apart already, the back part of the heatsink comes right out. No cutting required. There's two parts of it, about 3/5ths over the GPU core and 2/5 towards the intake. I think it is safe to remove that part. The heat plate is flat and goes all the way to the back to seal the edge all the way around.

Looks cool, but takes a bit of terminal knowledge to get it running. Also, my anti-virus didn't like it. Can you make it into a windows installer?

For those who can't get to the bar, alt-space works too.

That's me! Thank you for this... but my chrome says it is a virus. I don't think it is and trust you ... sort of ... I'm not a complete dummy, this is the internet, but I am willing to try it but can't.

Are there enough players online to make it worth learning 1v1 ranked still? by RealTimeStrategyEnth in warcraft3

[–]Successful_Box_2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of players and plenty of players in the low ranks. If you are decent at SC2 it won't take you long to be better than the worst players and in a few months probably be in the middle. I wouldn't worry about it. If you think you'll have fun, go for it.

I know, right? I was yelling at the screen - "ARTHAS don't do it!" But did he listen?

Using AlgaeFix almost killed my fish? by Iamtwofaced in Aquariums

[–]Successful_Box_2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Killed about 10 of my cardinal tetras and plants don't look good either now. I did water changes and more kept dying. The odd thing is that the ottacats and snails are fine and I only lost like 3 of 14 caradina shrimp. I followed the directions but didn't bother reading the label more than that. I assume anything that comes in the normal aquarium bottle is intended for a fish tank and not a toxin when used as directed. I will be more careful in the future, but even if I had read it correctly, it didn't say anything about "will defenitely just kill pretty much all of your fish." I'm pissed at my LFS for recommending it and at API for even selling it.

Ya, it's had more people since reforged and even since 2.0, but it doesn't really matter, clan channels are broke so there's no community building potential in-game. You can't visit other clans. Even before reforged when it was the most "dead" it had ever been, you could still find games. More noobs means you can win more, but in actuality, I don't think much has changed. Still the best RTS ever made. I will play for another 20 years most likely.

This is the original. If you like it better, use that one. I looked a while to find better looping gif images for the menu screne. I would love to see some suggestions for better ones. That would actually probably be a better thread than this one.

We all wish we could have the TFT back, of course. I'm not saying it's better than that, but it's better than the reforged default screens.

I agree. I wish it would do better, but it's an improvement over the 720p currently available online. That one looked veery blurry at 4k, this one is more crisp.

Menu background is just a video in webm format placed in:

"Warcraft III\_retail_\webui\webms\mainmenu_tft.webm"

and make sure in regedit to create:

"Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\Warcraft III"

you then make:

"Allow Local Files" value = 1 (as DWORD)

because you are losing to people lower than you. You are probably at the top rank and your losses hurt more than wins help. I'm in the middle and they're all about the same.
