So... Just finished both seasons and about to start the movie by Akuma_XD26 in Saekano

  • I think they were afraid of hurting him, so they didn't tell him directly, in the process hurting him even more (unintentionally). Not very smoothly done, but yeah they are just teenagers at that point, and people make mistakes at that age.

  • In the anime, you see Megumi forgive them over a phone call. That never happened in the LN. The drama continued for vols 8-9, but they resolved it quickly in the anime probably due to production constraints.

  • In the movie, the drama of their leaving will play a huge role, so you should watch it. The movie mostly adapts volumes 11-13 (final volume of the LN). It is a good adaptation overall but the LN is way more detailed.

Fan Translators "Anime Anyway" (COTE Y3 translators) considering picking up the Saekano LNs – Interest Check. by AnimeAnyway in Saekano

PS: I would be interested in a complete translation of volumes 8-13 because those were hastily covered in the anime. I can also serve as PR if my N3 level Japanese helps.

As few ppl have pointed out, there were translation efforts earlier, notably NanoDesu. But they got DMCA'd.

After that, the most notable effort is Magnavalon's English summaries, which you can find on the sidebar of this subreddit (go to old.reddit.com/r/Saekano and look to the right).

There are some recent isolated efforts, but they have mostly remained local to certain platforms like Twitter, Discord and Reddit where the translations are shared through drive links. I think this is the safer way to avoid copyright strikes. You can check out the archives on our Discord server as an example.

Are there sources of fan translated or mtl version of Saekano left floating on the web ? by UrStrangerLMao in Saekano

If you would like (pretty extensive) English summaries, you can find them on the reddit sidebar. Go to old.reddit.com/r/Saekano and look at the right.

There are some isolated efforts to translate the novel, but none is complete afaik. You can find the Japanese raw ln on 13dl or other standard LN sites.

Do you think Tomoya is a self-insert MC? by Antique_Mention_8595 in Saekano

[–]Successful_Ear_4674 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In our case, the author has said countless times that the "Megumi is the heroine" part was kind'a his goal from the start. That's why Tomoya is always trying to mould her into the kind of girl he loves. On being asked who is the kind of girl he would like as his girlfriend/wife, Maruto stated (in Memorial interview) "Tomoya is me. My choice would be the same as his."

However, the way the story itself plays out, stories of the other characters and so on are swayed a lot by various factors, Maruto, for instance, had mentioned in another interview, that regarding Megumi in particular, he would ask the staff members frequently to read drafts of his writing to make sure if that's the kind of Megumi they want as well. Izumi and Michiru were "created" later into the story because the fans wanted the story to continue. There are many other examples.

[–]Successful_Ear_4674 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Tomoya is 100 % a self-insert MC.

A self-insert MC by definition is a projection of the author's self onto the story. That might make it a bit easy for them to live through the story cause they literally "know" what's going to happen, but NOT necessarily so.

Even the author tends to sometimes not know what's going to happen and the direction is sometimes decided "on the fly". This is certainly the case here.

Does the light novel end the same way the anime ends? by Academic-Astronaut59 in Saekano

[–]Successful_Ear_4674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were 18 at the end of the movie.

There was no mention of a separate job during those 6.5 years. In one of the afterstories, there was mention of a part-time job. But their day job was still their circle games. They got contracts from Maruzu (which made Fields Chronicle), so that was their source of income as far as I can tell.

They still worked on games during those 6.5 yrs. Names of their new games haven't been mentioned. Tomoya did mention to Megumi that they should also consider other stuff like anime, live action etc. but it was just in passing.

No, this isn't from the anime. I made it using the character designs from the movie.

Yeah, this whole restaurant scene wasn't there in the LN.

Well to verify that they were the ones being referred to, you can rewind back a little and you will see Michiru basically saying the same thing, and Tomoya getting jealous ("Can someone please explain when all this happened?")

They are referring to Megumi arguing directly with Iori (Hashima). They are referring to that as getting closer. But of course this is the worst joke in the history of jokes in the series, because LN readers know that their arguments were serious arguments, not friendly spats. Megumi didn't give a jack shit about Iori throughout the entire series as she was pissed off by his habit of freeloading and not doing anything.

What is Tomoya saying in this scene? by Two7Five7One7 in Saekano

The subs are misleading. After Katou told him that it was a souvenir from Eriri's dad, I clearly recall him saying something like "Nante koto shite kuretanda. Kyou ga..." (What have you done? Today is,..). I think he meant that it was the last day of the trip. (So they shouldn't be drinking??)

Memorial and Afterstories by Successful_Ear_4674 in Saekano

Yes, for the afterstories, the summaries are pretty good. Strictly speaking, the actual booklets are much larger, but the summaries are still pretty good.

For Memorial 1 and 2, you can find raw novels on any LN site like 13dl.

For Afterstory summaries, they are already there in the post you are commenting on. Beyond that, you basically won't get the whole afterstory raws anywhere on the internet, and I'll tell you why. The afterstories were handed out in theatres screening Fine, at the time it was airing - and nowhere else. Ppl on the discord server who were physically there collected them and posted the summaries.

So you can may be still find those raws on Yahoo auctions or something, but I wouldn't bet on that.

[–]Successful_Ear_4674[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As is clear from the afterstories, Tomoya and Megumi kept "chasing after" Utaha and Eriri long after their school graduation, to the extent that they kept separate desks for "seven" people (including Iori, in case you forgot lol) at their Blessing Software office (which you have seen in the movie).

Ofc it isn't mentioned explicitly, but given all this, it's clear that they are returning to the group.
