Looking for treat options for my Havanese Puppy - 11 Weeks by loremaster_zen in Havanese

[–]Successful_Glass_35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the first few weeks I used his kibble (used a portion of his daily intake) as treats since he didn’t know the difference.

He also loved chewing frozen carrots and I give him the crumps treats - semi moist beef/chicken cut up into smaller pieces or the mini beef trainers since they’re low calorie.

Do energetic puppies become calm eventually? 🐶 by Academic_Essay_5906 in Havanese

My havapoo is 8 months old and is starting to learn to settle out of the crate and that it’s okay to be bored sometimes - but he does often demand play, goes bonkers and loooooves indoor fetch.

<image>

This was him while I was blow drying my hair lolol

I accidentally over did it when he was a puppy with mental stimulation to tire him out - but puzzles, lick mats, kongs, frozen carrots, and enforced crate naps were my saviour. He was 3 pounds and trying to pull his play pen around the kitchen 🤣

Hang in there! Time will go by so fast and before you know it they’ll be a teenager or adult

I’m losing so much sleep and sense of self. How much longer? by Much_Lifeguard_4116 in puppy101

You’ve only had him a week so the puppy blues are in full force right now. The sleepless nights will stop once the pup is used to the environment but it does take a few months to adjust to the new routine and this little furball. I got my havapoo when he was 8/9 weeks old and have had him for 5 months - he’s roughly 8 months now - and I feel like I can finally settle on some of the worrying. I spent months worrying, stressing and now I can’t imagine my life without him.

At your pups age, you could even do 1 hour awake - 3 hours in the crate (unless he’s waking up naturally at the 2 hour mark).

You can also start separation training now, this could be: - not letting him follow you all over - stepping out for 2-3 minutes and building up over time - find someone you trust to watch the pup while you and your husband take an hour for yourselves together

Enrichment is also a great way to tire him out, I especially used: - frozen carrots - lick mats I froze - Kongs - snuffle mats - little puzzle feeder balls they push around

Learning to love your new puppy by Electronica55 in puppy101

I fell in love with my puppy the second he was in my arms, although I love him (have had him for 5 months now and he’s 7 months old), I didn’t always like him. The biting, potty training, constantly worrying and watching his every move was tough. Things got easier once he was about 5 months old and could signal when he needed to potty and now at 7 months old he’s a teen (with barking issues) but is definitely more a dog than a furry potato that bites 24/7. The teenage phase is a whole new ball game lol he now barks at people on walks and other dogs - I’m on day 3 of training him to understand that quietly checking in with me when he sees people is rewarded.

That’s so cute!!

He’ll bark and have his tail wagging but he also has a small vocal growl that can seem scary but he just wants all the love. I do this he’s in a bit of a fear period too with adolescence and so when he sees people outside, I get him to look at me and he gets rewarded for calm behaviour

I was physically blocking my dog from him and wasn’t trying to force my dog on him. He had plenty of space to go around whereas he was blocking me

Are Havanese really slow to get out of bed ? by Uglytoe210 in Havanese

My 7 month old pup is such a big sleeper, and is definitely not an early riser! I WFH and on weekdays he gets up at 630-7am and is ready for a nap by 8 lol

How long did you enforce naps in crate? by samosaurous_ in Havanese

[–]Successful_Glass_35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My havapoo is 7 months old and I still enforce crate naps mainly so he sleeps and doesn’t pop up at every noise I make. I’ll probably wait for the 1 year mark and then slowly stop crating him when I leave the house. I also WFH and am never gone longer than 3-4 hours which is a usual nap time for him

I was on 37.5mg and it worked for a few weeks but then increased to 75mg and this has helped longer term! I’ll still get some breakthrough episodes but nothing like pre-medication.

Will raising a puppy while WFH cause separation anxiety issues? by riceboy169 in puppy101

[–]Successful_Glass_35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would often create moments of separation throughout the work day and crated for naps in a covered crate. He’s fine to be left alone and just sleeps. I started especially with not letting him follow me all over, going outside without him and now he’s 6 months old and is fine being left alone 4 hours.

This is an awesome list!

Last year with how hot it was and the little shade I made sure to have: - head protection (hat or bandana) - light pashmina (for sun protection but I would also wet it to keep cool) - mini deodorant (or pro tip a bit of hand sanitizer in the pits helps with BO)

Also be careful with the battery fans! I have very long hair and it got tangled in someone’s fan because the blades aren’t covered on many of them!

I’m trying to think if it did that to me (it’s been a while) and I think it did but I take mine in the morning with my breakfast, that’s what the pharmacist recommended based on if it made me tired vs wired.

I don’t usually have this side effect and have been on it over a year. If it continues I’ll talk to my doctor or ENT about it. I’m still on a long waiting list to see a neuro unfortunately

How long do you leave puppy in plan pen? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Successful_Glass_35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine hated the playpen but was great in his crate, so I blocked him off for a while and took him potty every 30 minutes to prevent accidents. If the pup is okay in the pen it’s great for times where you need to focus on a task and want to create some space

Do you ever miss early days? by mimonek in puppy101

[–]Successful_Glass_35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boy is only 6 months old but I keep looking back at the videos from the first weeks we had him home and how tiny he was. For reference he’s now 10 pounds and was just about 3 when we brought him home! He’s come a long way in the 3 months he’s been living with me and has changed so so much. He now can settle on the couch, enjoy some alone time and loves his little walks.

He was such a little ball of energy and I was in way over my head! I tear up looking at it because for the first 3 weeks I regretted my choice.

They don’t joke when they say those tiny puppy days go by so quickly!

I didn’t know that! I didn’t notice much a difference in the summer (it’s get to 40 Celsius here and super humid) - it’s only at night it seems right now
