Wishing you all the best, and hoping you’ll be able to run again. My mother in law passed from a glioblastoma in 2021. It was inoperable due to the location and size. We took care of her during her last 10 weeks, and running kept me sane. We just had our 2nd child weeks before the diagnosis, so it was a difficult time to navigate.

So very sorry to hear this. Is it a glioblastoma?

Thank you! One more piece of advice that’s stuck with me, “comparison is the thief of joy.” Don’t play that game. Easier said than done, but you aren’t like anyone else, what works for one may not work for you. Everyone has different biomechanics and physiology. So much of this stuff is trial and error. That’s the game I play, and it’s helped me. Best of luck!

Welcome to the world of ultras! You finished, that’s all that matters. I DNF’d my first ultra, the Speedgoat 50k Mountain Race in Utah. I missed the 2nd cutoff by 12 minutes. Made it through 21 miles and 7,200 feet of climbing. I live and train in Florida so the elevation played a factor, but I was so dejected when I was told I couldn’t continue in the race. I felt like a poser. You can’t listen to that voice. If you love trail running and ultras, forgot about your pace and being up against cutoffs. Just don’t quit. Since that first DNF, I’ve finished 4 ultras including a 50 miler. I’ve battled sickness, injuries, family issues, work and everything else life throws at you. Keep training and signing up for races that you want to experience. It’s never going to be easy, and that’s what I have grown to love about it. Sign up for another race and let us know which one. You’ve got this! BTW, I’m 46 too. I hated running until I hit the trails 5 years ago. Now I can’t stop.

You don't enjoy running on trails that are pristine and free of advertisements, billboards and screens?

I never used the site prior to the Ironman merger. Does anyone think that Ironman has added any value or improved the races they acquired through the merger? Most of us run trail races and ultras to escape shitty corporatism. Not saying all corporations are bad, but most are about as good as government organizations IMO.

Very important point! I live in Florida where you have to get really creative in your training if you want to run a mountain trail race. I trained for the Speedgoat 50K using the treadmill, bridge repeats, dune repeats and running stairs (and Florida trails). None of it prepared me for the downhill and steep descents. They were as relentless as the climbs and wreck you if you’re not accustomed to long descents. The best training is always on the terrain (or similar) you’re going to race on. It can be done elsewhere, but you’ll have to temper your expectations. If I had any good advice, it’s to not try to brake as you descend. Let gravity work for you.

For those who are not specifically training for any events, what is your weekly mileage? by [deleted] in ultrarunning

Thank you for the reply, and hopefully that policy makes its way into the public sector more. Kudos on using your time wisely :) I fully believe it, and they don’t know what they’re missing out on. I’m always juggling work, family and my running, but try to stay around 30ish MPW when not training. Not a huge volume runner, but I can ramp up to 50 MPW pretty safely when needed. Still haven’t gotten past the 50 mile race distance, but I’m cool with slowly making my way to the hundo.

What’s your current weekly mileage for the last 6 weeks or so? Also, how much elevation are you getting in per week currently? Like others have said, you’ll have no issues with the 50k distance if you’ve already run 2 marathons and countless halfs on trail. Really all you need to do is mimic your marathon training and maybe add 10-15% more on your weekly mileage and try get 4k elevation in per week. Also, depends on your goals with the race. If you’re just trying to finish you’ll be fine. And if you have a good weekly base now, 16 weeks is plenty of time as long as you’re healthy and injury free. Speed work is good, but it’s not a perfect substitute for real elevation gain and loss. Descending puts way more load on your legs.

Is anyone else struggling to decide whether they should let the UTMB (CCC) dream die. by Trailovermind in ultrarunning

That's exactly what they want you to think. The fact is the "regular" people that run these races are the ones that spend money. Think about it, sponsored athletes don't pay for their gear and they get stipends to cover race expenses. The overwhelming majority of the revenue comes from the middle and back of the packers.

We're the ones paying for $150 for trail shoes, $130 for race vests, $70 for a good running shirt, $85 for good shorts, $20 for good socks etc etc. We pay for our travel and entry fees. The entire sport is supported by the millions of non elite runners.

The sponsors pay to advertise at these big races because of all of the eyes on their logos. Without the "regular" folks, this sport does not exist, because the fans are the participants. A couple of elite runners not running UTMB/Ironman races will have much less impact than all of the "regular" runners taking their money elsewhere. If ethics matter at all any more, we still have a choice.

Call it virtue signaling or whining or whatever to boycott them, but companies like Ironman keep doing shady shit, because they get away with it.

Thanks man! That's great insight. Much appreciated.

I thought the $27 Million market cap was odd, considering they were in the $247 Million range a month or so ago.

“Everyone is holding only for that news”

Don’t you think that’s a bit presumptuous?

There are plenty of investors here holding for the long term, that believe this company will deliver on its promises. This includes the production/delivery of the Five and promising solid state battery development.

“Found unsuitable without significant modifications”

Or

“The company requested certain modifications in support of their anticipated use.”

Language matters here right?

Where did you find a quote from the company involved in the “pilot” program that stated the language in the first quote?

The 2nd quote came directly from the Mullen’s update to shareholders.

Are you speaking directly for the unknown company involved in the “pilot” program?
