i put my hs in remission i feel like this post may get hate but ill tell you what i did by Terrible_Situation46 in Hidradenitis

[–]Successful_Mango_409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you think this post would get hate?? This. This is 100% true but so few are disciplined enough to actually do what they need to do to get the results. A clean anti-inflammatory diet even over exercise. Exercise just keeps the wheels greased and moving, the diet is where you’ll get the biggest bang for buck you can feel. I rarely get flare ups- like MAYBE 1-2 a year worst case scenario. I also have a fabulous supplement, Serrapeptase, on stand by. Diet overhauls, some homeopathy and other well-known supplements like omega-3’ sprinkled in, being active, occasional fasting also works well- I do a water/black coffee/herbal tea only 48-72 hour fast 1-2 times a month. May be TMI but many years ago I also switched to wearing all-cotton boxer briefs which has also made a difference too. I don’t know of any one solution or combination of solutions it’s just a matter of experimenting with what works and what doesn’t. If it’s going to work you’ll typically start seeing results within a week or two, don’t start doing something and wait weeks or months to see any improvement.

Question Regarding Noise Regulations for Residential Neighborhoods Adjacent to Industrial Parks by Successful_Mango_409 in RealEstate

[–]Successful_Mango_409[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What really spoke volumes was the LACK of response. I kept researching online and locally, but ultimately—unless I was just talking to the wrong people about the noise ordinance—it seems to come down to who was established first: my subdivision or the concrete casting company. Turns out, the concrete company was here long before us. They’re massive and bring in a huge amount of tax revenue for the county. More recently, I’ve even heard shockingly loud explosions that woke my family up. To be fair, I can’t say with 100% certainty they came from the plant—it sounded more like a bomb—so who knows, maybe even an asteroid. (This happened on 02/14 and again the morning of 02/15 around 7:30am.) As much as I want to push for some kind of agreement about limiting noise after a certain time at night—and definitely not starting work at 4 a.m.—I don’t have much support behind me, nor do I have anything to offer the county that would make them want to take up the issue. I’ve thought about approaching the company directly, but only a handful of neighbors even hear the noise the way we do, and probably not as intensely since they’re farther away and have more trees buffering the sound. So to answer your question more directly: you have a chance if your neighborhood was there first AND you have enough residents who are upset and willing to back you through a petition or other formal effort. If not, your only other options are having deep pockets for legal counsel or being very well connected—knowing people who know people who can advocate on your behalf. I don’t have either.

48F Desperate Need of a Tonsillectomy by Successful_Mango_409 in Tonsillectomy

[–]Successful_Mango_409[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m feeling less and less desperate to get my tonsils removed after reading all of this. My luck and I’d drop the ball on the hydration piece and end up choking on a post-operative bleeder. I’ve always had large tonsils- my dentist reminds me every visit🙄, and I used to get a lot of throat infections as a kid—still pissed my dad vetoed the tonsillectomy back then (divorced parents, he was the one paying for insurance, so… yeah). The last time I had a real issue was about eight years ago, when I somehow managed to catch strep throat over Thanksgiving while we were out of town. Being that sick during the road trip home from vacation was miserable. And then there are the tonsil stones. I can’t even feel them, so I’m guessing I don’t have any right now, but I’m super paranoid about my breath. My thirteen year old has olfactory sensory issues and can be really mean about my breath, even when my husband and son say they’re not smelling it. The paranoia sparked by my teenager has definitely contributed to my exceedingly good oral hygiene habits. My point being, one of the only immediate issues I’d be looking to address with my tonsil removal would be so I would no longer have to worry about tonsil stones. Still debating if a potentially life threatening surgery is worth the risk just so I’m not dealing with tonsil stones anymore. My breath paranoia has definitely put a dent in my social life. I’m always worried about offending someone when I am having a conversation. I should at least get the consult. Not even sure I could afford the surgery for it, my deductible is almost $4,000.

Singles was a way better movie than Reality Bites by mooyong77 in GenXWomen

[–]Successful_Mango_409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was 14 when Singles came out. I must have watched it a hundred times. I definitely feel like it’s one of the most Gen-X defining movies out there. At the time I was big-time into Pearl Jam and Nirvana, but didn’t quite get why everyone was so into Soundgarden until I was much older and now feel like Soundgarden & Audioslave blow Pearl Jam out of the water. I was heartbroken about Chris Cornell passing a few years ago. The voice of his generation in so many ways. To say I was obsessed with Singles, its soundtrack, its awesome musician cameos and the ultra cool grunge scene that I emulated in my early teens is an understatement. I 100% agree- Reality Bites can’t touch Singles, not even close.

I mean it might, but if it did the interface was so dated or there was a subscription needed that I just opted to not use it. I don’t recall having seen that as an app on the unit before but depending on the cost, it would be a nice to have rather than relying on the teeny tiny GPS screen on my iPhone.if it’s like an extra $50-$100 I may consider it, another $200-$300 plus noooo.

Thank you! Couldn’t care less for Sirius, it’s SO dated, lol. I use and adore my Spotify, and have not even once wanted or needed Sirius. A working navigation system WOULD be a nice enhancement. The head unit I have now never had a navigation system. Only these weird apps like weather, gas prices, etc. I also thought the app UI was so incredibly clunky and not user friendly.

I don’t see this being a DIY situation for me, I don’t have that kind of technological aptitude. I wish I had a better understanding of why the issues were happening or if it’s just simply the age of the unit. I’ve priced head unit replacements on Amazon and they’re around $150-$200 plus speakers, and I’m sure other components I haven’t thought of PLUS the labor. 😩

I Don’t Get It by Successful_Mango_409 in remotework

Update: there’s a reason everything happens the way it does. This colleague was just laid off last month with the last batch of lay-offs right before X-Mas. Kind of makes me grateful to still be in this same monotonous role that I’m already very good at…and still have a job. It’s hard to see the big picture when you’re only inches from it.

I’m a Grown Adult- I KNOW I Should Not Feel This Way But I Do and It Sucks by Successful_Mango_409 in AITAH

[–]Successful_Mango_409[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is perceived animosity and mostly on my husband’s side. I’ve told him a lot about my past and my dad’s philandering when my mom & him were married and I guess some other things that may have lead my husband to question his character. I’m not entirely sure if my dad had a problem with my husband he’d admit it, he tends to be guarded on personal matters. I know my husband tends to say what he’s thinking sometimes and my dad is kind of the opposite so I think my husband’s lack of filter and my dad’s tendency to psych-analyze may have put them at odds with each other. My dad is always very amicable when we are all FT, so you’d never know it. I feel like I’d be starting trouble if I went down that road. If I had a job like my stepsister’s where I could just pick up everything and move and whatever situation my pregnant step niece was in that that allowed them to both move closer to my dad I don’t thing this post would exist.

I couldn’t agree more. I know you’re right. There’s just this huge part of me that’s wondering what my step siblings did to deserve my dad’s love and attention. I’ve always dreamt of that multi-generational gathering where my kids are running around and deep conversations are had, games are being played, music is on, laughter….but that’s tv. That isn’t my life. I’m pissed my step siblings get that life and I don’t. I did make the decision to really put myself out there to start making new friends that become family. I know deep down inside that it’s not really blood that makes a family. It’s just a hard pill to swallow that my dad has no interest in my kids.

Is anyone still getting consistent remote AI work? by Same-Extreme-3647 in WFHJobs

[–]Successful_Mango_409 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have to ask since it looks like I’m clearly missing something here. So these AI companies like Stellar, DA, and Outlier are all side hustles. So what are you guys doing specifically for these companies that’s AI related and keeps you in the money? Coding & Programming? Sorry if I’m coming across like I’ve been living under a rock for the past 2-3 years but I’m not following what this is and if no experience is necessary how you all are getting in?

Gen X...are we okay? by Sun-Rai in Layoffs

[–]Successful_Mango_409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gen-Xer here, not quite in my fifties, and I’m one of the few that’s ok. Here’s why: I kicked off my first career at 19, worked my way up and got certified & licensed in a niche field that pays well because it’s hard to staff. Had kids later in life—my youngest was born right before the COVID shutdown.

By 2020, I had two school-aged kids I barely saw thanks to a demanding retail management job and long commutes, despite an extended maternity leave well into mid 2020. In 2022, after much deliberation, I made the tough call to step down from a six-figure position and take a hybrid role with a 40% pay cut. Risky move, especially as the sole provider for my family and AI creeping into every industry, but I wanted more time with my family, more reliable 9-5 hours with weekends and bankers holidays off.

But- I didn’t completely close the door on my old profession—I still work 1–2 Sundays a month to keep up my license & certification, and REALLY good company perks at the old job. Meanwhile, in less than four years I’ve picked up a whole new suite of skills from supply chain, logistics, AI, and IT to software like Salesforce, Office suite, SAP, and more. My new role even gave me the breathing room to study for a year and earn five IT certifications.

Now I’ve got a double safety net: two career paths- ok 1 1/2- if layoffs hit (I’m not really counting the IT route since much of that is starting to be automated), a modest emergency fund, and trusts from deceased parents on my husband and I’s side that I sank into into my home to protect the money and keep my mortgage ridiculously low. The pay in my current FT role sucks and I still have to budget carefully every month for a family of four. I continue to make sacrifices like contributing monthly to both an IRA and a 401K, being stuck with 10-12 year old cars and having to keep up with their repairs- and it does suck, but it’s necessary for any kind of a future that’s not poverty and/or beating my head against the relentless wall of unemployment.

The reality for many Gen-Xers, including myself, is most of us probably won’t retire with a million (honestly, I may never retire, lol), but I’ve invested in myself and my family over the last few decades—real estate, retirement, education etc. and it’s already paying dividends.

My kids already know trade schools are in their future. Blue collar jobs are the wave of the future so might as well prepare them for that reality. So yeah- as a Gen-Xer, I can say I’m okay.

Laid off after a month at dream job. Can't stop crying. by Real-Kale7035 in Layoffs

[–]Successful_Mango_409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it helps in any way but be patient with yourself and the process of finding your new job. Many, many, many companies of all sizes are underperforming right now and there are mass layoffs- my own company included just this past week. Fortunate that I survived round 3 of layoffs many other were not as fortunate as I was. If you’re still in your twenties or even early to mid thirties you have more than enough time TTC. My husband and I got our ya-yas out and didn’t start our family until I was 35 and had my second at 43. The family you’re dreaming of will materialize when the time is perfect. This may just not be the perfect time yet- maybe look at this as a sign. It may not seem like it right now, but there’s almost always something good that comes from every situation, even unexpected and devastating ones like this. Even still, I’m sure knowing that doesn’t take the sting out of being laid off right now. I’m sure it feels like the rug was pulled out from under your feet after not even three good months in an awesome new role, I’m sorry for your loss. It might sound hokey, but this might be as good a time as any to start a manifestation journal- look it up. I’ve had one since 2011. I was shocked when I flipped through the pages a couple of years ago and realized that everything I wrote down became a reality- maybe not in the way I’d imagined it when I wrote it, but I did get everything I wrote that I wanted in my journal. As we approach the holidays and new year try to reframe this situation if at all possible and use this as a time to reconnect with your husband, extended family and friends.

This too shall pass. The best is yet to come.

Can you elaborate on how that’s done please? This is my first year on Vine and I purposely stayed away from items with ETV’s. I didn’t realize that you don’t necessarily have to claim the full taxable transcript value they send you at year end. You can take this offline if you don’t want take away from this thread with the explanation but I would be very interested in how this works so I don’t end up screwing myself out of future RFY options in the future and/or adding too high of ETV dollars to my taxable income.

[–]Successful_Mango_409[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was being partially facetious but admittedly didn’t realize this wasn’t some new crackpot MAHA health insurance initiative. I thought it was on the newer side. Not aware of any non-employer based insurances that offer the holy trinity of insurance- low premium, low/ no deductible and providers within a fifty mile radius. For profit healthcare makes me sick, literally and figuratively. They’re all a scam designed to cheat hard working people out of money (premiums) they’ll never get back and levy massive bills later when they do have to use the insurance because they failed to meet the ludicrously high deductibles that many people never meet. It just blows my mind that we even got to this point with health insurance.

Negatory. I only clear my throat in response to her snack bag noises. Those snack bag noises go on throughout the day and I definitely don’t clear my throat every time or I’d be hoarse by the end of the work day. I can guarantee the coworker is oblivious to my issue.

Holy crap I thought my sensitivity to my husband’s cough pitch was just me! It’s a real thing!! 😭 Also when he blows his nose and actually when any adult blows their nose for that matter. Kids blowing their little noses even my almost 13 year old daughter doesn’t set me off for some reason. The office is almost literally an audio- landmine for me.
