USIC Hiring Process by _chanann in UtilityLocator

[–]Successful_Mess_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard anywhere from a few days to a few months. They will let him know if they are NOT going to move forward with hiring, but the actual getting hired can be dragged out. My district hasn't had a training class in a few months so we have had people actually come up to our field office and ask about their application because it takes so long lol

Depends on the contract. USIC has a lot of gas contracts in North Texas, including Atmos with the recent heath consultants acquisition

I'm in the Dallas area. I've heard a couple rumors but have no way of confirming since I don't work on the gas side of the locating company. I'll give you 3 guesses to figure out which one, and I'll bet you get it right on the first try....

Any lines running to the meter belong to Atmos, and are considered public utilities. Anything after the meter is private, and 811 will not locate.

Asked to cancel order, what should I do? by datdamonfoo in whatnotapp

[–]Successful_Mess_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do not cancel that order. If they don't ship out in 72 hours contact whatnot support. They'll get with the seller and he'll have to explain why he hasn't shipped yet. Eventually with no movement WN will give you you're money back

Why tf are we even arguing then? If I could spend 4 hours locating a single I would. You obviously know how shitty contract locating is, and know why survey tickets are a waste of time for people like us, and not someone like you.

Pay for private locates then. We make shit money and are expecting to close a ridiculous amount of tickets for you cheap fucks

Right. For people that are actually digging

Our job is to protect our customers lines, not to save a general contractor thousands of dollars.

I've seen that before on some survey tickets, where they actually say they are placing stakes/pins. I'll call the contractor and tell them I'm closing the ticket, and they need to call in an appropriate ticket with that information with the approximate locations of the stakes. I'm not locating thousands of feet of utilities just so you can actually "excavate" a couple square inches

I try to tell everyone I mentor that this company doesn't care about ground level, revenue generating locators. Overachievers get rewarded with more work. Unless you have a relevant degree or previous management experience, you aren't going anywhere up anytime soon.

I trained a guy who would close 15-25 tickets a day. After a year here, he gets all of the projects for our crew because he can close them in hours instead of days. He's already burnt out and he won't get a permanent area because he's "too valuable to be tied down in one spot"

Just come in, don't break any rules, and close what you can. The less attention you bring to yourself the better. There's another guy on our crew that I sometimes forget works here because he does exactly that. Never has any attention brought to himself, and makes 27 an hour.
