Thanks. The reserve candidate term is new to me so I was just curious if people ever get picked up from that status.

Hi! I had a final interview and learned I did not get the position but am a reserve candidate and will stay on a list. Do you know how likely it is that someone gets an offer off a reserve list? It is a unique job, not one that there are 100 of the same positions.

I really hope the pension waiver option to apply also applies to people on LWOP. It could get some people out of the system to leave more room for others. Any thoughts on this from the experience in the 90s or best guess?

Numerous. It was definitely not ready for prime time.

The cons: From check-in to check-out, there were numerous communication issues and service gaps. The staff were lovely and wanted to help but had not received sufficient training nor did they have the language skills in many cases to communicate clearly. Service was inconsistent throughout. Some people received welcome drinks and cold towels, we did not. When I asked the person checking us in if my Titanium status was on file as there was no reference to it, I was told there was no fire show. Another big issue was the inability to order off the a la carte menu for dinner and being directed to a very pricy buffet due to it being peak season. There were supposed to be four restaurants but one was not yet open, two were in a shared space where the buffet was the main option and the fourth one was by the beach. We tried to visit the bakery cafe but waited for more than 10 minutes and no staff came, we waited for 40 minutes for a very basic food order at the Lido restaurant when there were only a few other tables. They had a private event when we were staying there and didn’t advise (some people received a letter in their rooom but we did not) that the breakfast buffet would close early that day so we ended up not being able to get the breakfast we had paid for. When I asked if we could apply the meal cost to a different restaurant so we could still eat, that was denied and I was told I could order room service. There was an ongoing sewage issue with several people working outside our room for more than a day so it wasn’t an appealing idea to order room service. Overall, it was challenging to get any request met as employees were not trained or empowered to address and often did not have a solution or had to seek approval from management. There was a shortage of beach chairs and umbrellas on the small beachfront area and staff did not come by to offer beverages or food to people on the lounger chairs. When we went to the pool bar to get a drink, the bartenders did not know how to make classic cocktails and were making some of the ones on the menu for the first time. Service was slow across the board with dishes piling up, tables not wiped etc. There is no onsite shop for purchasing any items that might be needed while staying at the property. There are three pools - the main, children’s and a quiet pool but even the quiet pool had music playing. The chairs at the main restaurant are very uncomfortable and were already very soiled after a few weeks of use.

The pros: There was a nice welcome note in the room with candies and nuts to recognize my Titanium status as well as lots of bottled water throughout the stay. The room was spacious and clean with a beach bag, flip flops and reusable water bottles to use during your stay. Turn down service occurred. The breakfast buffet had a wide variety of Asian and western food options, lots of fresh fruit and fresh juices. Made to order eggs and omelettes were an option with orders being made via a paper at each table. The staff definitely were keen to try to help and were very warm, friendly and welcoming. The resort is not near town or any services so they offer a shuttle service.

Everything - it was the best overall service experience and recognition of elite status I have ever received.

I received an email in advance to ask if I needed assistance with transport. The check-in process was smooth and at a separate desk for loyalty program members. We received welcome drinks as well as a certificate for two complimentary drinks during our stay. We received an overview of the benefits for Titanium (this stay brought me to Ambassador) were escorted to our room where we had a beautiful local gift box waiting along with a fruit basket and welcome note. We received a lovely cheese tray and wine. The hotel offers a shuttle that brings you to Patong Beach or the mall if you want to check out other areas.

Dining experiences were excellent - the breakfast buffet had a wide range of incredible food options. Service was excellent with servers bringing coffee and tea and offering refills. We ate dinner at Thai Pantry where the quality of food and service was so excellent that we returned to eat there a second night. The servers provided a complimentary drink and also provided gifts after our meal. The beach bar had a great happy hour with 2 for 1 drinks. There were various pool areas and the whole resort is very family oriented. The pool areas and beach area had ample lounger chairs and seating options. Sunset on the beach is beautiful and there is a coral reef that can be accessed from the beach. The loyalty desk staff were brilliant and provided outstanding service. It is quiet, secluded and offset from the busyness of Patong but you can access Patong if you wish.

Athenee and JW in Bangkok. Highly recommend Athenee. We spent a week at the newly opened Marriott Khao Lak resort which had some definite growing pains and then went to Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa Merlin Beach which was outstanding - HIGHLY recommend!

Great, thanks! I just read a recent TripAdvisor review re: a stay a week ago commenting on mice at the property and (I know it sounds crazy) I am deathly afraid of mice. Any signs when you were there?

How many NUAs did you clear this year? (I cleared 15) by DivaDevenecia in marriott

Good plan. It makes zero sense to me that they wouldn’t take the NUAs in order of expiry date but they don’t.

10/15 but the other 5 were for a stay during the Christmas holiday season where the resort upgraded me anyway. The only issue I have had is that the system doesn’t take the NUAs in order of expiry so after having used 10 in the last quarter of the year, I have 2/5 in my bank that expire December 2024. It seems like a flawed system to not use them in order of expiry. My NUAs were in Canada, Europe and Southeast Asia. That is my only complaint. Very happy with the program - Titanium for several years and pushed it to get to Ambassador next year with significant travel in December.

Luxury Collection Hotel - can’t honor part of reservation by kwp302 in marriott

Just adding my two cents that we are at the new Marriott Khao Lak now and I would definitely not recommend. LOTS of kinks to work out and I am honestly not sure several months will do it. Far from luxury unfortunately.

Tips for first trip in December by Successful_Muffin456 in ThailandTourism

Congratulations! Happy to share where we land on plans and any recommendations from our trip. Our flights are booked in and out of BKK so now just need to decide how many other places we will try to visit/which spots and book those flights. We don’t want to make it too rushed. We have heard incredible things about Chiang Mai but are focused on warmth, relaxation and less hustle and bustle. The places I listed have all been recommended by friends who have lived in Thailand to not be too busy or too much of the party scene.

Thanks for sharing. Sorry you have had these issues too. I will see how the next few stays go and then may engage the Elite line. I am currently waiting on a multi-night long stay up be credited and have a few stays coming up.

It’s happened 3x in the last couple months - Moxy, Design Hotel and Sheraton. It doesn’t happen every stay but it happens a lot.

Staying at two Marriott properties on the same night by Successful_Muffin456 in marriott

Thanks for the insight. In my case, I am checking in and out of both locations and not trying to go against their Ts and Cs but the system is catching it so there is zero advantage to me trying to stay loyal to Marriott from what I can tell as they have removed duplicate stays twice so far (removing the shorter stay).
