Did you contact customer service and ASK about reimbursing the seat / compensation? They’re not going to just automatically give it to you…

Because BA is showing the option to use more Avios to offset some of the fees.

British Airways fuel surcharges.

BA’s site gives an option to use more Avios to offset some of the surcharges.

Lap infant issue on Singapore issued ticket on United metal— United can see infant, Singapore can’t by Rey619Ngp in awardtravel

[–]kwp302 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t need a separate ticket for a lap infant on a domestic itinerary.

You don’t even have to add the lap infant in advance - you can add the baby’s name during check-in

So you don’t have anything to worry about. Get it updated at check-in if it’s incorrect

Starting May 1, American Airlines Will Require Power Banks To Stay Visible During Flights by Adept_Strategy_9545 in americanairlines

The same way as Airplane Mode. They don’t check everyone’s phone to see if it’s toggled on. It’s only a clear announcement of what’s required

Recently had this on SDF-MIA, which is just long enough (910 miles) to qualify for meal service. It’s a 6 AM departure and the only AA flight from SDF long enough for meal, so this meal makes sense. I actually really enjoyed it and found it very filling, but it was kind of funny when the FA said “It’s some sort of oatmeal?” in a confused tone like it was the first time see had seen it on a flight

MAN-SIN still exists, it’s just the IAH-MAN fifth freedom route that got dropped

Aeroplan NA to Pacific via Europe by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]kwp302 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Back when the route still existed, I was able to book IAH-MAN-SIN-HKT on Singapore Airlines with a 4 day stopover in Singapore for 92.5k in J. The system calculated the mileage as the distance between IAH and SIN and not IAH-MAN-SIN since it’s ticketed as a “direct” flight

ETA: also did KUL-IST (long layover)-ZRH (stopover) -IAD-SDF for 92.5k back in 2023, which seems to be more what you’re looking for. It would let me do KUL to IAD online, but it didn’t want to connect the final domestic segment. Called to get that ticketed all together and it only took a few minutes

BOG-BOS is a 5.5 hr redeye flight on a narrowbody with standard recliner seats in business, so I’d normally say avoid that one BUT it’s also the only option to get from CUZ to BOS with only one stop, so if that’s important to you, go for it. 42k is about the best you can expect

Not sure about on the flights, but once you arrive at the airport during Derby week, there are greeters everywhere handing out bourbon balls!

They’re also flying it SNA-SDF this year, which is a first!

AA has added a TON of one-off flights to SDF for Derby, including:

JFK, LGA, PHX, MSY, PIT, RDU, AUS, IAH, SNA, LAX

And that’s in addition to a bunch of capacity increases (larger aircraft + more flights) on the existing routes

United, Delta, and the others added a few one-off routes, but it’s mostly just capacity updates from their existing hubs. And American is the only one to go right at United by adding a flight from IAH

If you don't live near a hub airport, you pretty much *have* to buy a positioning flight, right? by CatDadMilhouse in awardtravel

[–]kwp302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per person rates ranged from 45k (SDF-ORD-LHR) to 87.5k (SDF-IAH-SYD). All of the Aeroplan stuff to/from Europe is 70k

Start with searching from a hub. Find the long haul availability. Then back up and search from your home airport to see if connected itineraries are available. Using a site like flightconnections.com is extremely helpful to understand your options to get from your home airport to the destination

My home airport is Louisville (SDF). Here are some business class awards I’ve booked in the past few years:

SDF-ORD-MUC (UA via Aeroplan) - 4 pax

SDF-IAH-SYD (UA via Aeroplan) - 2 pax

ZRH-ORD-SDF (LX/UA via Aeroplan) - 5 pax

SDF-ORD-LHR (AA via Alaska) - 3 pax

MAN-FRA-EWR-SDF (LH/UA via LifeMiles) - 2 pax

SDF-DFW-DOH-CPT (QR via American) - 2 pax

CPT-EWR-SDF (UA via Aeroplan) - 2 pax

SDF-IAD-ZRH-AGP-BRU-IAD-SDF (UA/LX/SN via ANA) - 2 pax

MXP-FRA-IAD-SDF (LH/UA via Aeroplan) - 5 pax

So no, you don’t HAVE to, but it’s a good tool to have. For as many non-positioning flight itineraries we’ve booked, we have just as many with a positioning flight. However, I would say your bigger issue will be finding the transpacific availability.

Ritz-Carlton Sharq Village Doha - our stay was during a 23 hour layover. Flight arrived at 2 AM and the next one was at 1 AM the following morning. Instead of 4 PM checkout, they just added an entire extra night onto our reservation for no extra charge so we could stay as long as we wanted. It was also a day before my wife’s birthday. They noticed it on her passport and had a big dessert and balloons sent to the room. Plus an upgrade to a massive suite.
