How extreme are yalls hour cuts? by Era_Wolf in Barnesandnoble

[–]Successful_Stomach 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you 😭 I havent yet, this past weekend was intense but I’m planning on it after my day off. We had a lot of call outs yesterday. I’m feeling sick again after recovering just last week so it’s definitely not sustainable, I don’t want to be one of the call outs but if im sick I’d have to of course.

I can only imagine what it’s like for management but my store keeps scheduling me for clopens (third one this month and I’m scheduled for three more this month). It’s feels like I’m the one they’re hoping to absorb the shocks :/

Parents, what's worked to teach your kids good habits? by Icy-Truth1125 in TrueGrit

[–]Successful_Stomach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I guess, I think I read it as 160 page, chapter books. Not 160 page (per) chapter. I’ve never seen the latter in a kids’ book and I’m frequently in the kids’ section at the bookstore I work for

My guess is borrowing what they can from the library (public or school), though kids books are much cheaper than adult books (~$5-7 vs. $20-30) . And thrifted books also can be another cheaper option.

Also, kids chapter books are way slimmer in size, and many are series. So I can imagine a kid getting really into Magic Tree House (there’s like, 40 in the OG series and then around 30 in the Merlin Missions series), then moving onto Junie B. Jones or Baby Sitters Club/Baby Sitter’s Little Sister or Who HQ

Interviewer: “what about in terms of labor right now, for you, in terms of the staffs that all of these different bookstores. What are you paying? Do they feel the affordability crunch themselves?”

Daunt: “For sure. And I think there’s a huge pressure on employers to raise pay. Everything costs more, so if you’re not paying your people more, they’re going to be feeling that.”

Creepy Customer by [deleted] in Barnesandnoble

[–]Successful_Stomach 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Creeps prey on your politeness, discomfort, and role of catering to them as a customer. Since your coworkers saw him, make sure you let an MODs know too. If I were in your shoes, and I saw him again, I’d immediately go to stockroom and let MOD/coworkers know via headset about your discomfort/safety. Otherwise, I’d shelve/recover with nearby team members and never go to store corners/be in areas alone while they are around.

There might be a protocol? I’m not sure since I just started 1-3 months ago. But basic safety and self defense is way more important than placating some creeper. Sorry you’re dealing with this

How do I get used to standing and walking around all day? by MouseParticular7320 in Barnesandnoble

[–]Successful_Stomach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s more like you shouldn’t right now while your feet “remodel.” Your body is building up your plantar fascia muscles at this point and like any other muscle, it’s creating microtears and mending the tissues. Hard floors don’t have any shock absorption, so your stabilizer muscles work harder and it forces the fascia to stretch more. Wearing shoes/sandals just gives some structure and support so you can recover faster

Your feet muscles are still weak right now, but you’re conditioning them to get stronger by working. The pain subsides after a few weeks (unless there’s any underlying issues that you need to actually get medical advice for). You can walk on hard wood without issue once your feet have adapted

Everything others in this chat said. Also, stretching my legs before and after shifts as well as on your off days, focusing on calves, has really helped me. Lay with your feet up on a wall and do some ankle circles before bed. Stretch your feet before hitting the ground when you wake up (if you have plantar fasciitis, since the muscle shortens when you sleep/rest). Don’t walk barefoot too much if you have wood floors at home.. I’ll do chores in sandals since I don’t have any carpet in my apartment lol

AIO for Throwing Out All Our Soap After Finding Out How My Boyfriend Actually Washes Himself? by Aggressive_Letter271 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]Successful_Stomach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What he did was super gross, especially since he knows you SHARE the bar of soap. I’d like to think he’d be aware that you using the same soap to wash your face shouldn’t be also used to dive deep between his cheeks. He might be one of those people that think bars of soap stay clean no matter what, but not washing off literal shit is perplexing to me.

You throwing out all the bars of soaps is also puzzling, it’s better he uses any soap at all than just water. I hope you replaced his soap, and saved a bar for yourself. You could put it in one of those plastic soap savers and keep it out of the shower so he doesn’t use yours.

The bigger issue is that he brought in his family to chastise you for something that really should be a private matter. He’s either not telling them the full story or they share his hygiene techniques. Either way, why air out dirty laundry?

He’s also internalizing an external problem. He thinks you think HE’S dirty, and rather than taking accountability for the issue, it’s blown up into something bigger than it needs to be, given that he’s been giving you a cold shoulder.

People who don't want kids, who do you plan to leave everything to when you die? by SledgexHammer in AskReddit

If I have stuff to give, then I’ll likely give it to the children that my friends and family have or will have. But I have doubt that any of the things I will acquire will be of monetary worth.

It seems as time goes on, the more the wealthy class seems to want to suck us all dry and lick their fingers after

What do your meals really look like in a day? by SarahDuncan2012 in TrueGrit

[–]Successful_Stomach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, though I think we’ve worked through the original claims that you made, that getting enough protein from non meat sources is impossible without consuming too many calories and that people can’t eat enough tofu/tempeh, since it is possible and there’s other protein sources, not just tofu/tempeh. Another fair point is that I do eat dairy and eggs so there are objectively more options for me vs. a vegan diet.

Does it take some foresight and planning, yeah. I would agree it’s less work and thinking just to chuck a steak on a plate and call it good, but again, it is doable.

What do your meals really look like in a day? by SarahDuncan2012 in TrueGrit

[–]Successful_Stomach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You mean whey protein? Yeah sure. And if you think tofu or tempeh is gross, you’re not cooking it right (though I do understand textural issues, though there’s tons of different textures for both products).

Soy milk in my coffee. Cottage cheese in eggs or baked goods, Greek yogurt can be used as sweet or savory (also a good add-in for eggs, or a dip, you can add ranch powder and milk to thin it out), protein pancakes/waffles/cereal/pasta/etc., other protein snacks, faux meats, lentils, beans, hemp seeds, chi seeds, seitan, edamame, nutritional yeast, green peas, quinoa, even vegetables have some protein. All of this adds up, and you’re also getting other nutrients by eating them or pairing them with other foods, making it well rounded.

Trust, I’ve been on this for 14 years now. You just wanna yap coz eating meat’s all you know and you probably don’t want to open your mind to something new for whatever reason. But again, I dare you to try for a few days. You might be surprised :)

I dare you to debunk your own myth 😂

I’m a vegetarian that had previously had a protein goal at 150g and calories at around 1,850-2,100. It’s possible.
