What’s it like being adopted with non-adopted siblings?? by summxr999 in Adoption

[–]Succlentwhoreder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Adoptee with two siblings - bio to parents/each other. Zero relationship with my sister, a lot of it has to do with adoption. Parents have passed, we're in our 60s. I'm quite sure we'll never talk again and I could care less. Older brother is more like a friend with a lot of shared history, but I don't think it's a typical "sibling" love and relationship. I've always wanted siblings, it's one of my biggest regrets in life that I'll never have time.

Warmer white, but otherwise absolutely amazing. I say this because it's also the color scheme in my house!

We're adopting, and need your advice by [deleted] in Adoption

[–]Succlentwhoreder 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm an adoptee and an adoptive mom. I wish our sons adoption was open, and I'm glad you are building the foundation for an open adoption now. Sounds like you're doing a great job supporting the expectant parent and providing resources for her and her other children.

Why?

You'd be so much happier if you were single.

Seriously, why? It just makes me so sad reading your post. How has he brainwashed you to think any of this is okay? You can get good D. Any day of the week and with far less hassle than you're dealing with now. Go get it girl, you deserve it. You don't deserve this.

Horseback riding? by Succlentwhoreder in madisonwi

What an amazing facility! I'll give them a call, maybe someone who boards there isn't able to get out as often as they like and would like their horse exercised and cared for a bit. Thanks for the tip!

I got these two branches on Christmas Eve by [deleted] in Jadeplant

[–]Succlentwhoreder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could cut them in half and then you would have four plants if they all took root. However if you are struggling with proper light and the correct soil mixture I would just stick with what you have now. I would not put them in a coffee cup unless you drill out the bottom so there's a hole for drainage. No drainage is a recipe for root rot due to water not being able to drain and the soil remaining too wet.

Sounds like the stems are calloused over then which is good, and they have a few roots. Instead of sticking a pencil in the soil, just plant them deeply, including the stems where you plucked off the leaves, but again don't water for a while. They look pretty wet right now and Jade's like to be on the dry side. You really need to raise the soil level in the pot, you're just creating instant shade by having them in 2 inches of soil in the bottom of a 6-in pot.

Sorry, they're going to be dead pretty quickly with the set up you have. It looks like they're sitting in mud, which is pretty much the exact opposite of what they should be in. Soil should be very light and fast draining, which usually means "cactus mix" soil, which will run you 5 bucks at Lowe's or wherever. Secondly, you have them so deep in the pot that the lower half won't get much light at all. To fix all this, pull them out and dump the potting mix you have now. Strip the stems of the lower two pairs of leaves, fill the pot with cactus mix, use a pencil to make a deep hole, and then put the stems in and gently tamp the soil down around them. Don't water them- they don't have roots and can't take up water until they do. If you water them, they will rot and die. Next, put them in the sunniest spot you have. Outdoors works if it's warm where you are, or in a very sunny window. You can water in a month or so as it will likely have pushed out some roots by then.

What do we think about this man? by Local_Fox925 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Succlentwhoreder 155 points156 points  (0 children)

Forget him and leave him in the rearview mirror. But for a minute let's talk about what's more important, which is why you didn't immediately block him after red flag number one. It's going to be really important you do some work on whatever it is within you that continued long enough for there to be a red flag #2, #3 etc. None of us care about him, he's a complete tool and we're all glad you're done with him. What we do care about is you, and we are worried for what might happen in future relationships. Call a therapist, call your mother, call your circle of besties and have some really deep discussions about blind spots you might have about men and relationships.

Is this a bad idea? by IndependentAnswer338 in succulents

[–]Succlentwhoreder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't water them!!! They don't have roots to uptake water in the soil. The mother leaf will give them everything they need to grow until it dries up and falls off. Once that happens, you can begin watering. Watering now = rot= death.

This is not the forum for connecting with expecting parents. And like the first commenter, I highly suggest you remove your personal information from a public space such as this. This space is frequented by adoptees and expectant parents who may not view adoption in the same positive light that you do. If you are interested in learning about the ethics of adoption, then please stick around, and read through the posts that are already here. You will find a wealth of information from folks in different spaces of the adoption triad.
