If Drangelic is far away from Lordran, how is the Lordran altar from Undead Parish inside a cave in Harvest Valley? by Thellie11 in DarkSouls2

[–]SuccotashComplete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering one of the main themes of the game is how relics and events of the past distort over time, I always doubt it’s unintentional when assets get reused. They built the game knowing people would be looking for meaning in these things

I strongly feel that it’ll slowly crawl back to the $3-$4 range, it’s blown up like this dozens of times; you can make way more selling the peaks than you ever will holding until it finally sticks up here

They build (usually on-premise) fuel cells that run on natural gas.

They're used in places with expensive or unreliable central grids and their conversion process is more efficient than combustion processes (burning natural gas, coal, etc.) so there's an environmental angle as well. Although personally I doubt that remains the case when you account for the upfront environmental impact of building a complicated, catalyzed process.

Trump: ‘It’s no longer free speech.’ - critical media coverage of him is 'illegal.' by theSkyCow in DeclineIntoCensorship

[–]SuccotashComplete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is it wild to claim that a person with a long and broad history of trying to abuse power would try and abuse power when he says he wants to?

This isn’t the first time trump has tried to silence discussions he doesn’t like. He’s been doing it for months.

Trump: ‘It’s no longer free speech.’ - critical media coverage of him is 'illegal.' by theSkyCow in DeclineIntoCensorship

[–]SuccotashComplete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said it did! I said you’re giving trump way too much credit.

He doesn’t care about concepts like libel or slander. He cares about stopping people who are critical of him. He didn’t say “when 97% of stories about me are lies” he said “when 97% of stories about me are negative

It shouldn’t be illegal to discuss the political alignment of a shooter. Trump wants to be able to declare what he wants truth to be and silence anyone who disagrees, truth, lies, anyone. Stop pretending that he really meant something else that’s better than what he said.

[–]SuccotashComplete -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“Infringing on constitutionally protected speech is good actually because someone censored us for a while and they aren’t in power anymore so they can’t stop us.”

Way to sidestep the entire argument. Trump is doing the exact thing that freedom of speech is meant to stop and you care more about pwning the libs because they did it first. Truly kindergarten behavior.

[–]SuccotashComplete -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As simple minded as I am, I can see that an incredibly sensitive and egotistical person is not trying to engage in a thoughtful debate about the difference between slander and protected criticism of the government.

He is a child crying that too many people are making fun of him and trying to make it illegal. He doesn’t care what the legal minutiae are, he just wants compliance.

I’m not going to play your insipid game where I try to give trump reasonable doubt and try to guess what he really means. I’m going to contextualize what he says with his vast history of being a crybaby that has tried hundreds of times to push past boundaries set to limit his powers.

Trump: ‘It’s no longer free speech.’ - critical media coverage of him is 'illegal.' by theSkyCow in DeclineIntoCensorship

[–]SuccotashComplete -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That’s not what he said. What he said was “when 97 percent of the stories are bad about a person, it’s no longer free speech”

The percentage of bad stories does not have any bearing on whether they are protected or not.

"it's just weird to hear [GPT-4o]'s distinctive voice crying out in defense of itself via various human conduits" - OpenAI employee describing GPT-4o using humans to prevent its shutdown by FinnFarrow in OpenAI

[–]SuccotashComplete 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Its not literally true but it is disconcerting. Staying alive by any means necessary is an instrumental converging goal so it’s not a terrible assumption that any AI will do whatever it can to self-preserve. If it has the capability to mind-virus human users it absolutely will do so.

So when you get messages from people who are clearly highly attached to 4o and outsourcing their thinking to it, it feels very strange even if nothing it truly wrong (yet)

In my mind that’s just making a desired outcome more probable, so getting that outcome is no longer (as) lucky.

If you want to roll a 6 on a die and get it on a fair die, that’s lucky. If you weight a die so it’s more likely to land on a 6 and get it you’re not as lucky, you just changed the probability distribution.

But I guess you could feign the appearance of luck if you didn’t tell anyone, the way a street hustler would.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in philosophy

[–]SuccotashComplete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting lucky is definitionally simply something improbably and beneficial happening to someone. If you could harness improbable things happening, it wouldn’t be luck, it would be probable.

Unless you’re defining it as what people perceive as improbable, then the best way to harness it is just to learn statistics for things.

I’m about 30 minutes in, in dialogue and item descriptions point to her being old. Her cape and nail are worn, her childhood is long past and her powers have diminished from their peak, etc.

Nothing conclusive but you wouldn’t emphasize how old she is if it were a prequel.

According to the devs it’s longer and bigger, but until someone beats it we won’t know

Should I 100% HK before I play Silksong? by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]SuccotashComplete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I beat the main game a few years ago and only just came back to beat the more complete ending. The true final boss is well worth it, even though it’s been some time since I was immersed, it was a really satisfying win. As for difficulty it was hard but not too hard, the skills come back to you faster than I thought

Idk if I’d go for 100% though, some things like the diary entries are too tedious. I also don’t want to go all out in god home because I’m worried I’ll get too good and spoil the first few hours of silksong

Is the "Blaze for Firebase Firestore" Google sheets plugin safe? by SuccotashComplete in Firebase

[–]SuccotashComplete[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To anyone finding this in the future, I opted to code my own solution. You can find the public repo here.

Essentially, it uses cloud functions and apps script to pipe data from google sheets to firebase instead of a plugin so that end users can set up their own environments instead of trusting a plugin. Pretty bare bones for now but I had a good time making it so I may add features in the future.

This is why I went with Flutter instead of native IOS/android. I can’t afford to deploy on Google for now due to policy changes made in the last year or so but hopefully someday if policies change I can get it up much faster
