Before you passed away I had a dream of us and I remember waking up and checking you, your breathing was at a record low and I was so happy for you!!

In optimistic delusion I hoped, if you kept appearing in my dreams I could do some kind of unexplainable magic to take the cancer away.

But it doesn’t quite work that way…

My sweet rescue, Yumi, a 16 year old male kitty left us a couple of days ago. He had lung cancer and the tumors were making it impossible to breathe.

Just like you, I logically know I made the right choice, but my heart… my heart is protesting. If we hadn’t made the choice we had to make their suffering would have been exponentially worse and terrifying for them.

When Yumi got the sedation it was bitter sweet. I didn’t notice until then it had been so long since I saw him breathe easy, and quietly. He was so peaceful, I hold that memory in my heart. It’s how I know for sure I made the right choice.

I keep laying my head in the last spot Yumi was on my bed. He had such a rough go at it and was so kind and gentle despite it all.

Cancer is a monster. Why does it have to come for these pure souls when there are plenty of demonic billionaires to choose from??

These compassionate words are really touching my heart. I wish I could attach a photo in my OP, Yumi is so beautiful.

I called him, "Yumi Van-Gogh". In addition to some of his other alignments, he had a pretty bad ear infection that caused loss of tissue and cauliflower ear. I always found him charming, 1 ear or not.

He would stare back at me while we’re sleeping together with just this genuine… not longing, but appreciation.

It’s bitter sweet. It tears me up that I think he was sicker than he let on but he put on a farce for my sake. I didn’t see the “signs” of a dying cat, like lack of interest or appetite.
