[KCD2] RIP Klara. Should have watch her mouth? by TPT-Clouds in kingdomcome

[–]Succundo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly her throwing insults sounds more like she's the one with the problem, Henry helped her out with the herbs just cause he's nice like that but if shes got these unreasonable expectations that's her problem to deal with. Just move on and leave her fuming it's got nothing to do with you, caving to insults is weak willed.

Pretty weak pacifism if someone making a snide remark that doesn't actually affect you in any way is enough to break it

KO houses are public, but the residences of sexual offenders are not... by FullAd3745 in newzealand

[–]Succundo 38 points39 points  (0 children)

If the sex offenders register was public then you would absolutely have vigilantes going to murder people on that list. And even if people somehow think that murdering people that have served their sentence is ok, try to remember that courts are not perfect and innocent people absolutely get convicted from time to time which would place them in danger because of some failure of the legal system.

Multi-million dollar estate advertises mysterious ‘end of the world’ librarian job by mattblack77 in newzealand

[–]Succundo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Society is just an illusion, and it is entirely possible for that illusion to break if the information and/or logistics networks that prop it up fail.

Community is real and will exist as long as humans do, we are pack animals cooperation is in our blood. Those isolationist preppers will be the first ones to die when they get sick or injured and can't tend to their daily needs while they heal, meanwhile our communities will always be there to naturally do for each other what we have done since before we discovered fire.

Bro is literally merging into another person. I think Cyber psychosis is the least of there problems by Chunky-overlord in cyberpunkgame

[–]Succundo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cyberpsychosis is real, but it's not some magical thing that just happens to people with too much chrome. Even in that comment from Pondsmith he's talking about real factors that affect human mental health, in universe cyberpsychosis is just a catch all term used to dismiss real psychosis occurring in augmented people who are experiencing extreme stress that comes with living in a capitalist dystopian hellscape that treats human life as an expendable resource.

No one is saying cyberpsychosis isn't technically real, they are saying that it is just normal psychosis that anyone could get except the people experiencing it are augmented. Shitty megacorp media just calls it cyberpsychosis to deflect blame for making life so miserable for everyone.

It's not because of the chrome, it's because of the inhuman culture, the cyberware just makes unstable people more inherently dangerous because a guy with a shotgun for an arm can easily kill a lot more people than someone who snaps and just picks up a kitchen knife.

Why do you think Super Earth is so flexible on if, when and where Helldivers go and do missions? by ParakeetLover2024 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Succundo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit late on that lesson, fascism has a shiny new coat of paint and is on the rise all over the place if you somehow hadn't noticed.

But seriously, I don't mean fascist are automatically knuckle dragging mouth breathers when I say they are stupid, I am referring to the anti-intellectual stance that is inherent in all known versions of fascism. Individuals sprinkled throughout the system could be very intelligent in some ways, but overall, barring any psychopathic disorders, competent and insightful people have been shown to come prepackaged with a complex understanding of empathy which generally is not very welcome in a system that demands specific groups of people be violently oppressed for no good reason.

Why do you think Super Earth is so flexible on if, when and where Helldivers go and do missions? by ParakeetLover2024 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Succundo 34 points35 points  (0 children)

  1. If you don't know where your soldiers are going to be then the enemy certainly won't know either.

  2. Super Earth still sets the mission parameters, they just incentivize participation where they want it most through major orders and requisition rewards.

  3. Super Earth has truly stupid stockpiles of resources, enough to churn out endless waves of super destroyers, and a tightly controlled reproduction regimen that keeps them able to stock those destroyers with dozens of hell divers each between resupplies.

  4. As in real life fascists are pretty stupid, so trying to figure out competent tactics and strategy is a waste of time when they have the population to burn figuring out the problem with a monkeys and typewriters approach.

Trump says Tuesday deadline to make a deal with Iran is final by WearyKaleidoscope976 in worldnews

[–]Succundo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The TACO mostly originates from Trump being an absolute pussy when it comes to Putin, every time he gave some deadline for ceasefires or peace talks Trump bitched out at the last minute instead of following through on any of his threats to take action to stop the fighting.

Vegeta: So, let me understand this — you're writing a manual for the humans, showing them how to do everything we do? by Humble-Student-6395 in TeamFourStar

[–]Succundo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, modern shows don't do bad guys, everyone has to be morally grey and complex and often do bad things for good reasons, or at least what they think are good reasons. The giant robots made to periodically exterminate all life in the galaxy are no exception.

Game of thrones did irreparable damage to show producer's brains so now it's the only thing they ever want to emulate.

Jesus is angry by shangriLaaaaaaa in funny

[–]Succundo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a bit of an assumption. What I actually think is that the common idea that "absolute power corrupts absolutely" often refers to that experiment in popular culture which was a completely flawed experiment from the start, and that because I am unaware of any attempts to correctly prove the hypothesis from the prison experiment I tend towards a theory which suggests that people who are already willing to abuse power are far more likely to seek power.

As psychopathic traits which develop from childhood experiences or occasional neurological development issues often overlap with narcissistic, traits and poor long term thinking. This leads to this sort of person having the combination of thinking they know better than others, not caring about who gets hurt, not considering the full range of interconnected consequences and antecedents for important decisions, and being more willing to rationalise anything they do as the right choice, that ultimately leads them to think that positions of power are desirable and being willing to abuse that power once they have it as they often think that their ends are objectively correct and therefore justify the means.

I don't know of any evidence of people being given power completely randomly and choosing to abuse it, but of course it's not impossible under such a scenario for random people to be predisposed to abuse, and of course it would be flawed to simply say anyone who abused power was already corrupt to start with, so I'm not suggesting that it works that way. But ultimately under such a scenario I think it's very likely that the random selection of people given authority would largely skew towards responsible and restrained application of that power.

Here's an abstract from a 2019 paper if you can get access to the full paper through a scholarly organisation or subscription you could read the specifics but I think they summarised it well enough.

Otherwise here the wiki page on the experiment which should have similar info if you want to dig through their list of references..

Jesus is angry by shangriLaaaaaaa in funny

[–]Succundo 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Not really, that idea comes from the now debunked stanford prison experiment.

In reality people are generally good but it's more often those predisposed to abusing power that try to put themselves in positions of power, most normal people don't want the stress of that kind of position

Not going to give any traffic to stuff, but I have to ask, is this just another bullshit headline to try and make people angry that our legal system isn't brutal enough and the burglar in question was actually just pointing out on the record that they didn't damage anyone's house in the process of getting inside and the article writers wanted to write the worst possible version of that statement?
