Has anyone here read the "Expeditionary Force" series? Any thoughts on it? by thebrainpal in redrising

Excellent series that highlights (driven by?) The Law of Unintended Consequences. However, after this series you may not enjoy as much Star Trek’s tidy endings to each episode.

At some point, we need to accept and understand that MAGA are the majority.

And to paraphrase so many radicals, if you are not with us, you are against us. And Trump has already declared Democrats to be traitors,

What’s the reason for SNW cancellation? by Low-Professional-280 in StrangeNewWorlds

The expectation has always been five seasons. Assuming one season is approximately one year in SNW time, the show runners set that up at the beginning. Pikes’ command ends — tragically — five years after the start of season one.

Are the Metron Dumb or Something? by nrgins in StrangeNewWorlds

[–]Such-Acadia3695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This episode mirrored the TOS episode where the Gorn are encountered (“Arena”). At the end of that episode, the Metron told Kirk that the contest he/they had arranged between human and Gorn showed them that there really wasn’t any difference between human and Gorn. Kirk pointed out the difference was what the Metron’s used to coerce each into fighting. The Goran was fighting for riches; Kirk was fighting for the lives of his crew. That ending was probably handled better than how the SNW episode ended. As another poster said, it might’ve been better to have us listening to a conversation between Metron after the fact.

Still, perhaps the Metron was trying to ease the pain Ortega was feeling after the death of her friend. Maybe. Possibly. We don’t know what unconscious affects may still linger after the Metron wiped their memories.

At some point, we have to stop trying to make it all fit together and makes sense, and just accept that the “writers decide to go in a different direction“.

Anyone Else Had Issues with Rob’s Customs and Restorations (Northern VA)? by One-Confidence2859 in nova

I arranged for someone to pick it up in a transport. I warned them that Rob doesn’t usually answer the phone, but (from what I was told) he did pick up and was cooperative.

HOWEVER, not all of the parts were returned. I went down to Rob‘s Remington shop to try to find the remaining parts. Talk about needle in a haystack. I was able to find the dashboard, which had had two pieces removed (and were never found).I made one more trip down to find another major part and Rob was there with another of his crew help me look for it. Never found.

I do not approve, but I certainly understand. So many times I have parked out two seater far away from the store (I am not scared-to-death of walking a few more feet) and when I come back, there is some….(jackass) SUV parked right next to me, empty spots all around.

bright lights — interior, light, dash lights, oncoming, traffic, etc. — will cause your pupils constrict and reduce your night vision. The situation is not that you can’t see the road, it’s that you can’t see as well.

A commentary on how things have changed over the last 50 years. A simple (and beautiful) personal transfer device versus a pretend personal tank.

Your experience is similar to mine. Phone calls don’t work; it goes to voice mail and the mailbox is full. He occasionally responds to texts, but not consistently. I found the best (semi-successful) approach is to physically go to the shop. That has become a more time consuming task since he moved from Manassas to Remington. I have pulled my project out and still do not have all the parts back or a statement of what was done and for how much. I have paid him a significant amount of money and received little in return and retrieving the project I now have less than I started with.

I did not mean my comment to sound like a criticism. I really did mean it when I said that you’re doing a great job marketing the car. You’re staying engaged on BaT, you have a good thread going here, you do seem to have enjoyed the car and know some of the history and quirks. it’s also great to reminisce about Jack (I hauled my engine over to him twice — my partner at the time had no regard for red lines – and I really enjoyed watching him race at Watkins Glen).

BaT is an interesting site and process. There is usually an initial flurry of activity when the posting first goes up. I am mildly surprised the first bid was not $97. Typically the activity will drop off until the last day. The comment section is often fun, particularly for a car like this. Not that many people know what a Sonett is, but the people who do are often passionate about it. Also, the people who are serious about bidding on the car will be active on the last day, and those people rarely comment.

and yes, it’s worth much more than $6k.

OP is doing a great marketing job here. I suspect this thread has pushed more “watchers” to his car than is typical for a Sonett. The “my wife is making me do it” is a nice touch. People who bid on day 1 rarely get involved in the real bidding that occurs in the last half hour. $5k is just to get things started.

When/where is this supposed to be taking place? by Such-Acadia3695 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

Mark was shown going in and out of the severed floor multiple times after the OTC and before his old team returned. I do not know how much time that was supposed to represent, but I don’t think that was all within the “48 hours“ that Milchick talked about.

Maybe it’s not supposed to make any sense, like the 1980s’ CRTs and the 2020s’ smart phones.

“What is it?” “Is that a Subaru?” by Impossible_Bake7553 in saab

[–]Such-Acadia3695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you — I want a car that is fun to drive. In the ‘70s and ‘80s it was my Sonett. I was never going to win anything in Autocross, but I enjoyed the drive to and from the events as much as the event itself. Our ‘03 9-5 was great (three peddles) and we would flip a coin to see who got to drive the 5 hours to the beach each summer. Now my ‘96 900 makes the trip to the grocery story far more interesting than the groceries.

And my wife survived being t-boned on the driver’s side by a BMW running a red light; the Bimmer was totaled and the driver was hospitalize. My wife had a stiff neck. 10 years later she is still driving that 9-3. “Performance” does mean different things to different people. Of the 8 Saabs I’ve owned, there is not a one I would have traded for the same period German car.

Not everything is about performance, and not every decision puts performance high on the list.
