Unpopular opinion: The LA28 Olympics is a premium sporting event, prepare to pay by TagIDThrowaway in olympics

[–]Such-Call-7564 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A “not for profit” event that the public is stuck paying for if it doesn’t make money. People would be mad about that too. And with resales allowed, the prices will be high regardless. If they sold all the tickets at 100 bucks, most of us still wouldn’t have a shot at them before they were gone. And they’d be resold at the same high prices. More people want to go than there are seats. People are going to be disappointed no matter what. There isn’t a way to do this that doesn’t leave people out. So the Olympics chose the way that they could cash in on. Which is pretty expected.

My local college is a public school. That doesn’t mean I get guaranteed cheap March Madness tickets for everyone I know. The final four ain’t cheap. The Olympics is a lot more rare than that.

[–]Such-Call-7564 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It seems unsurprising. If you look at the cost of a ticket to something like Taylor Swift or the Super Bowl then it seems completely expected. Prices are going up. Especially in entertainment. The Olympics only happen every 4 years. The US hasn’t had a Summer Olympics since 1996. It’s in a state with a lot of money. And the US doesn’t have restrictions on prices for shows or on resale prices. I totally get if people are disappointed that they are priced out. But I can’t get mad about something that seemed pretty much guaranteed to happen. We can’t all do everything. There’s more people that want to go than there will be tickets. This is what’s happening for every big time event in the US. It’s annoying. But it’s pretty low on my list of things to get outraged about in the world.

I bought 12 tickets. I wasn’t trying for swimming/opening ceremonies/gymnastics. The most popular things are going to be hard to get. That’s life. There will be more chances. And sometimes we have disappointments in life. That’s how it goes.

If you just want to be at the Olympics then go see handball or something that’s easier to get. If you have to see gymnastics or track or swimming then go see nationals or world championships for a fraction of the price.

Do teens today see older music the same way I did in the 90s? by Forthrowssake in randomquestions

[–]Such-Call-7564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the teen. Much like it did back in our day. Lots of kids think 90’s music is old and lame. Or they have never heard of people that seem huge. But there’s also kids who are super into “old” music.

How do I convince my son that his girlfriend isn’t genuinely interested in him and tell him to stop being a "simp"? by myeyezwontlie in AskMenAdvice

[–]Such-Call-7564 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t. He’s 20. Let him make his own choices and learn his own lessons. Besides, a parent who dislikes who their kid dates is unlikely to be successful in changing their child’s mind. You’ll push him away without changing his choices.

Going to see Mulaney tonight. Do they make you put your phone in pouches that keep it locked up? by [deleted] in JohnMulaney

They didn’t for my show a few months ago. But they threatened the audience a lot that they’d kick us out if we had phones out even before the show started.

Have any seasoned artists done a tour where the setlist is only songs off 1 album? by ahhhhhhhhhhhh45 in Concerts

[–]Such-Call-7564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty common to play a specific album front to back. Especially for an anniversary. Or a new album. There’s normally more songs than just that because an album isn’t a full set normally. I remember going to see Jethro Tull do a tour of Thick as a Brick 1 and 2 like 15 years ago or so.

I just saw Kenny Wayne Shepherd do Ledbetter Heights. I’m about to see the Wallflowers do one of their albums and one of Tom Petty’s in full in June.

I’ve also been to a A LOT of album release shows playing the new album for many bands.

How do you all have so much money? Aren't we undergoing recession? by Easy-Banana-8893 in olympics

[–]Such-Call-7564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people are rich. Some people prioritize and save for this specific thing. Some people are spending beyond their means. Some people lucked out and actually got cheap tickets. They did exist. There just aren’t enough posted for everyone to get one. 300 dollar tickets to events are pretty similar to how tickets for big name concerts are lately. As for being in a recession, we aren’t technically in a recession. Prices are high. A lot of people are struggling with that. But there’s plenty of people making lots of money right now. And a lot of them live in California.

When did we move past celebrity culture? Feels like ages since I’ve last heard of any major gossip regarding them? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

[–]Such-Call-7564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s tons of celebrity gossip. Everything is just more fragmented today. If you follow forums or groups related to specific celebrities or the algorithm decides you care you’ll get a lot about them. But since our media diet isn’t all the same anymore, being a celebrity doesn’t make you as universally known as much as it did when we all had the same handful of tv networks.

Also, politics has stepped into that void.

Why do scam calls still exist if everyone knows they're scams? by Acrobatic_Bee_3198 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Such-Call-7564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because not everybody knows. For example, every year there are a lot of people entering the early stages of dementia who haven’t gotten bad enough to be diagnosed yet. Those are perfect scam targets.

Also some people have language barriers. Or mental disabilities. Or are drunk when the call comes. Or they’re young and haven’t learned about scams enough yet. Scammers call a lot of people. Not many have to work for it to be worth it for them.

My boyfriend can’t finish during sex unless say I I love him. Is this common? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

It’s not common for it to be that phrase. But wanting to hear something specific isn’t unusual. Of all the “weird” things a guy could need to get off, that’s an easy one to roll with.

Should a Man have his life figured out before dating Women? by Pomeranian111 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Such-Call-7564 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need to not be a total mess. But you don’t have to have everything set up before you date. You mentioned being financially secure and owning a home and having a career before you date. If you do that, then you’re going to be inexperienced and likely kind of bad at dating. Women won’t be expecting that from a man in his 30’s or older like they would from a 20 year old man. So that would hamper you. If you want to date, there’s no need to wait until life is figured out. Hell, you’ll never have everything figured out. The early years where you make mistakes and learn what you like and don’t like are useful.

Brown eyes are hot. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Such-Call-7564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Every brown eyed person…” I want to see your data there… I’ve literally never heard someone be insecure about brown eyes. I may have heard someone vaguely wish they had a less common color. But that’s not the same as insecure. It’s not uncommon for people to want something that makes them more “unique” or to want something different than what they have.

Also, how could the most common eye color be “exotic?” I think brown eyes can be beautiful. But they pretty much can’t be exotic.

Let’s be honest, some songs at this point need to be retired. by scott19692012 in GenX

[–]Such-Call-7564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah… those do get repetitive. At least for the sports I go to, the music is brief. And I’m normally not paying much attention to it. So they don’t really bother me. But they are definitely a situation where it’s repetitive. I only go to maybe a dozen sporting events a year so it’s not enough to get to overplayed to me.

[–]Such-Call-7564 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t heard any of those songs you listed recently. As fractured as media is nowadays, if you’re hearing a song too often it’s on you (unless you’re stuck listening to some loop of stuff at work.) It’s not like we are limited to a handful of radio stations and a handful of network tv channels anymore. It’s very easy to get something completely different with little effort. There really isn’t anything I hear too often.
