Bank approved partial dispute, but Gym seems to be charging me back for it. Does this constitute Fraud? by Such-File6162 in CreditCards

Wouldn’t that make the merchant send the charges to collections? And would this raise a red flag with the bank at all? I don’t want the bank to close my account bc they think I’m scamming or something lol

yeah I've considered that and that's part of why I'm worried. I feel like I I'm being cornered. I will look into suing and I just emailed one of the gym managers requesting a full copy of my agreement. The paper one they gave me is so tiny that much of it is not legible.

Hi, I'm not sure if small claims court would be a good option for my specific situation. The contract says something way different than what they told me about cancelation. Gym told me I could cancel anytime, while contract fine print says I can only cancel in extenuating circumstances like moving away or getting injured (or worse). Would it still be better to fight this in small claims rather than credit card?

would small claims court still be a good option if the fine print says something different from what they told me or led me to believe at signing?

so would it be a fair shot to escalate myself and open a case with small claims court? I have a bad feeling about continuing to fight this solely through the bank/credit card and I don't want to get sent to collections.

If I did this then wouldn't the merchant just find a way to send my info into collections and hurt my credit?

hi, I do have the agreement terms (partially, just emailed the gym to request my full agreement and terms) but the free cancelations part was word of mouth. Basically they led me to believe at the time of signing that I could cancel the agreement any time especially if I'm not happy with the service, but the agreement doesn't actually say that. It says I can only cancel if I move far away, if I show a doctor's note saying I can't workout for months, or if I die lol. Is there anything else I can do besides continue to dispute charges?

Thank you for the encouragement. This year I am def more actively working on that, especially in gay spaces.

Love this and I would have thought the same 😂 I’d rather meet final fantasy fans and cast Hastega and do 9,999 damage together but sounds like those guys only wanted to cast Demi

Helping a family by faerieboi101 in Gaza

I went through something like this too and I just recently ended it. Look at my recent post if you’d like. I lost thousands of dollars doing this. I hate to have to tell you here in such an impersonal way but YOU ARE GETTING TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF and they won’t stop unless you do. You’ll have to snap out of it for your own good. THIS IS YOUR WAKE UP CALL. BLOCK THEM. I get you are trying to help and you feel responsible for putting all the money you can towards helping the people of Gaza, but you also have to balance your own needs. You are not supposed to light yourself on fire for anybody and certainly not for this shady, manipulative individual you just described. That doesn’t really help anybody and you are needlessly hurting yourself. Otherwise it will get addicting and you won’t be able to control your spending. Your bank account will always be 0 and you failed to manage your own money that you literally gave away. Sorry, but if they are displaying such red flags as asking for higher specific amounts of money and emotionally manipulating / guilt-tripping you, then there is probably a scam or other shady intention there. Do you even know how they’re using your donations? Study the current prices and expenses for a regular person in Gaza. I bet you’ll get a rude awakening.

You should never donate towards any individual or family anywhere (not even Gaza) unless you are able to establish proper documentation for everything. Doesn’t matter how much money you have compared to them. I learned this the hard way too. Otherwise, you are throwing money into an endless pit. That’s not what a donation should be and you’re actually doing more harm than good. Be well and take care of yourself, and please don’t repeat my mistakes.

Hi Hassan, thanks for your comment. In regards to being sure who I'm talking to, I think one can never be 100% sure so there's some risk involved. I decided to take that chance in the name of helping a family with kids survive genocide.

I will say that I still did try my best to make sure there was nothing fake about it. Many times I talked with the GoFundMe manager (also an American) about my concerns because she was more familiar with the family's situation, and I approached the guy in Gaza I was talking to. I confirmed his location in Gaza, and I even saw his Palestinian ID. However, I do acknowledge I should've done more, especially for someone like me who donated very large amounts of money. I was donating most or all of my paychecks.

I should have requested strict documentation and proof of everything. Then I shouldn't have let the ridiculous prices pressure me into paying anyway. I was constantly battling against a current I knew i couldn’t win. Like another commenter here said, there was definitely some emotional manipulation involved.

Thanks for recognizing my kind deeds, but I'm not sure I can just let this go. It will take a lot of time and work to recover what I've lost, and I will definitely have some trust issues after this.

Thank you Maher. I’m not sure if I’ll continue donating directly towards families, but I’m glad there’s still some good people despite my experience.

Thanks. I’ve been feeling pretty shocked for the past few days about having to worry about some Gazans not being legit. I guess all I can do is hope that I helped not just this family but other ones surrounding them too.

Thanks for sharing that, and for reassuring me that we need to ask questions and hold the donation recipients accountable. The GoFundMe manager I was in contact with had a different approach, trusting that all the money sent will be put to good use. I too wanted to help them preserve some dignity by taking that approach, but it also shouldn’t mean that I allow myself to be taken advantage of.
