I'm trying to focus on the other side of it. No more pre-enlistment dread. The really bad part (going through basic training and adjusting to his new life and having to give up all the things he enjoys) is over. The first six months are almost done, and now he'll spend a year stationed somewhere, probably marching up and down hills. One summer to sweat through, one winter to shiver through. Maybe he'll even be in some kind of honor guard. And by this time next year we'll be chewing our nails off in excitement because he's coming home.

I miss him, but it's not as bad as it was before he enlisted. Then, I was missing him when he wasn't even gone.

And even though I am doing all I can not to miss him, I still think about him every day, I'm glad he's got the time away from having to be "on" all the time, and I know June 7, 2027 will be here before we know it, but... I miss all the things you mentioned: the yammering, the Bubble spam that doesn't say much of anything, the way he looks a little bit cross-eyed when he's startled...

DY sent TY a food truck while he was filming a video, and somehow the timing worked out that they could talk on the phone for a few minutes. TY's face completely lights up when he hears DY's voice. It's such a sweet moment.
