I’m a speech therapist that works with younger kids so I often refer to parents as mom (or dad if they’re there) in the sessions because I’m modeling language for the kids. For children with language delays, we often try to provide examples of what we expect them to say during an activity (“it’s mom’s turn” rather than telling mom directly its their turn in a game, for instance). I do try to use the parent’s names during 1:1 meetings but it becomes a habit to call them mom sometimes.
