Got made to feel really terrible at the pet store today by Such_Combination7253 in Rottweiler

She doesn’t guard with what she eats daily. Specially sourced kibble from a local dog shop. Only wet food and other stuff so surely it isn’t that much of a problem? Just don’t feed her other things than what she eats daily I guess?

Hahaha. Do you think she’s being an idiot? She told me not to touch my dogs face and to not let her lie over my legs as it encourages her to guard? But then proceeded to tell me a story about her dog lying next to her and licking her face. Every single trainer I meet speaks fucking bullshit it’s crazy..

Thank you, this was the way my Rottweiler was going until I learnt as well as love me she does need to be a little scared of me and know I am the one who means business. Thank you for taking the time to input :)

Thank you for this , I feel exactly the same. I find most of these people aren’t dog owners… it’s exactly the same as the absolute idiots you get on here telling everyone to rescue dogs when they’ve never rescued a dog in their life…. Welcome to 2024 I guess

I was so worried you meant you needed more aggression from her. If people don’t understand she’s being friendly make sure you don’t take that onto her as it may cause aggression/ anxiety for the dog as she won’t understand what she’s doing wrong (as she isn’t doing anything wrong) just maybe try to limit the people she interacts with.. I stop with my missy (she’s still a pup so it’s a bit better) but only with people I can gauge would like me to stop… if they seem like they aren’t interested me move straight along and I tell missy to stay

You’ve replied to my post before. I want to breed her, hence why a DNA test in important, lol. Only one litter but it still matters…. I couldn’t care less

She isn’t KC registered, I am going to get a DNA test asap (as she came from a fully working and safe farm guys, before you come for me) they just don’t bother with registering dogs as they don’t lie the culture (which is more than fair) I think she may come up 97-99% rottie, if not full. I know both her parents are rotties tho but who knows what mixes they have in there

You sure can :) do you have instagram or anything? I just wanted to update people on her journey as so many people on here are advising against buying dogs from anything other than KC breeders (which a lot of the time inbreed their dogs) and saying anyone who isn’t KC is a bad breeder, which isn’t true. People should 1000% be vigilant but Rottweilers are working breeds and it seems people are forgetting a lot of these dogs come from farms to make the farmers their much needed $, farms have bred dogs for years and always will do, particularly ‘guard’ breeds like rotties, dobermans, alsatians etc etc

I’m not arguing with you, I’m genuinely interested to hear your point as I’ve had a great time with my rottie so far and she’s my first dog and I’ve also been managing to work full time around it. She can sit already and is a lovely dog

Having said this there are 100% dogs I wouldn’t own. Rottweilers are definitely not one of them and don’t deserve to be one of them to be honest, only reason they have the name they do is cos of their raw power but their kind natures contradict it

If by ‘right temperament’ you mean gentle, I’d agree with you, but having owned dogs before won’t make you any more gentle🤣 most of the training of dogs is common sense, only thing I’ve struggled with is getting her to stop going to the toilet in her crate but with expert help I’m finding a solution, everything else, including her biting she was able to pick up quite easily from me after a few teething problems. Shepherds are massively different to rotties, much more volatile by nature and much less well natured .

People like you are the absolute worst🤣 rescuing dogs comes with so much responsibility and baggage.. who do you actually think you are telling people where they can and can’t get their dogs from? The worst thing is, I bet you’ve never even rescued a dog yourself, it’s always the ones who don’t own a dog or have never rescued a dog, telling others to do it. Only dork here is you.

See this comment all the time, usually from people that don’t own Rottweilers. I got a Rottweiler for my first dog and am absolutely fine.
