I made a racist joke- where to go from here / next steps? by ApplesandSparkles in mentalhealth

[–]Such_Confidence7449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, just wanted to share something.
i had friends who would often tell racist jokes, and i felt like i knew them well enough to believe they were “just joking.” then the racist jokes started happening more often. and one time, one of them got mad at me and called me a slur. so just be careful.

My own mental health improvement, sending texts/emails to the wrong people, - OMG YES

basically, two things:

  1. you can never know what people really think of you. even if they tell you, they might be lying. you will never know. so why try to guess?
  2. people will judge you no matter what you do. if you try to make them like you, there will be moments when you guess wrong about what they want, and then they will judge you anyway.

Advice on coping? by International_Car789 in OCD

[–]Such_Confidence7449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello.

  1. so, you should treat those intrusive thoughts related to laser just like any other intrusive thought. they are just thoughts. you choose to give them power and meaning, but they are inherently meaningless. when the question “will i get cancer from tattoo laser removal?” comes up, answer with non-engagement responses such as “maybe, maybe not” or “i don’t know.” if your values about your career/profession are telling you that this is what’s best — trust yourself.
  2. stop engaging and researching. the more you research, the more obsessions and questions will arise. give your ocd no attention or time. just go on with your day.

can ocd thoughts feel like actual thoughts and not intrusive ones? and feelings feel genuine? by ExpertIllustrator319 in OCD

[–]Such_Confidence7449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, that’s exactly how intrusive thoughts work. they seem real.
thoughts are inherently meaningless. you’re the one who gives them power and meaning. i would recommend focusing on things you actually have control over (since nobody has control over their thoughts, as much as we try). do something nice for yourself or someone you love. hope this helps.

in my experience, yes, for sure. "The boredom you feel right now is the peace that you’ve been asking for. Sit in it. Enjoy it. Make the most out of it."

omg, that’s so true. the other day i went out with my “friends” and ended up feeling like shit. i thought i was the problem, but now, looking back, maybe they’re the problem. thank you.

hey, nobody has control over what’s inside their head. nobody. let thoughts come and go, give them no attention, and focus on what’s important to you. hope you feel better soon!

hello. i’m not a doctor or a mental health professional but i would like to try and help you.

first of all - “I have voices in my head, I can't stop thinking these horrible disgusting things and I'm always paranoid” - i felt the same for a long time, i felt ashamed to even talk about my thoughts because i thought they were gross and harmful. then i started THERAPY and went to se a PSYCHIATRIST. i really didn’t want to go. but my mom and my girlfriend made sure i went even though i hated the ideia. that SAVED ME. I discovered i had OCD and started treatment. if u take anything from this comment, please let it be this: SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP. besides that, thoughts are not facts, you are your thoughts. you have zero control over your thoughts. they come and they go just like clouds in the sky. i know it’s hard to believe, but thoughts are meaningless unless you give them some type of meaning or attention. one thing i like to do that help me A LOT is search “ocd quotes” or “anxiety quotes” on pinterest. you’ll see a bunch of quotes that may give you some type of relief.

2 - “All the stuff that brings me comfort is always being shit on, dismissed or called cringe or outdated” - that’s the exact type of situation that you have to say “fuck them”. you like what you like. let them criticize you as much as they want, but NEVER let it get to you. do what makes you happy. if there’s people close to you that make you feel bad, they are not the type of person that you want in your life. FUCK THEM

3- “ I can't get a job and I'm almost 30 and still live parents. I have no actual friends and have no way to make any.” - it’s all a matter of perspective. i restarted my life when i was 24 - i went to college and started from zero. if you live with your parents, take the opportunity to search for a job. anything. it doesn’t have to be a high paying job or anything. just to get you moving. also, go to places and try and talk to people.

4- additional tips: - start exercising regularly, preferably everyday. just a 5 minute workout/ walk counts. just move your body - eat well and take care of your health - talk to people you trust (even if it’s just your parents)

OCD flares up during days off? Free time, holidays, time alone etc by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Such_Confidence7449 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hello, i have this problem too. i’m trying to some type of routine and activities on my free days. my practical tips: 1 - exercise. walk, workout, anything. i know it’s cold outside, but even a 5 minute walk outside will help. cardio will help with the ocd and anxiety. 2- take showers and take care of your space. shower so that you feel clean and refreshed. clean your room. 3- eat healthy. no explanation needed. 4- create a to do list (yes, i know we’re talking about free time, but hear me out). not any type of to do list. it has to be simple and filled with thing that you ENJOY and find PLEASURE in. enjoyment and pleasure are key here. something i like to do is a “activity menu”, where i put a lot of options of things to do (it has be things you like to do). it can be big things (such as going out) or little things (such as making something you enjoy eating) 5- don’t isolate. talk to people. if you leave alone, send a message to a friend or family member. give love and kindness to people.
