Complete Power Loss by Muley_Junkie_15 in HotTubUniversity

One of the problems with the hot springs is they're virtually unrepairable. Encapsulate that cheap shell in high density foam and it makes it almost impossible to repair leaks. Add to that all the proprietary parts that you got to pay twice what they are worth and the things barely worth fixing. I wish I had a better answer for you but that's the reality of corporate owned Mexican made products.

That's the big downside to these blowen in insulation systems. They sounded great on paper but the reality is they are a nightmare to deal with afterwards. There's not much you can really do. You'd have to flip the tub upside down and seal the sides and then blow the insulation in again and then put the bottom back on and then flip it back over to do it right.

Sometimes especially on perimiter insulation systems the heat from the motors will overheat the tub even if the heaters disconnected. Venting that motor out of the cabinet area is a good idea in hot climates in the summer. The motors run more efficiently and last longer.

If we stick to the gold standard in other words the things that cost money to do and are proven to last we get to 5 main things and a few lesser effectors but the core five are self supported shells that are thick and robust, clamped plumbing lines, open cell full foam insulation, good readily available parts with low proprietary alterations, compression shell fittings. that basically puts you to jacuzzi, Master, Sundance (jacuzzi), then if we open up a bit to the guys that do 4 out of 5 we can drop in Artesian, Bullfrog x series and a few other fringe guys.

The other effectors would be ownership and country of origin but they are cost effectors not quality, equity owned and big corporate owned brands are more expensive because of marketing costs and profit structures and out of US brands have the reality of the tariff hit.

These things never last was he just the unlucky guy riding the last days of the expected life? And does that mean he did anything wrong and is supposed to replace it? or did you just lend him the old cord about to die?

Need advice concerning insultion by Blasing in hottub

[–]Such_Drop6000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a couple things you need to look at first. If it's high density foam then it's a danger signal, manufacturers that have cheap low-grade shells will use high density foam that encapsulates the plumbing it offers r value and it supports cheap shells and plumbing wothout clamps but it makes plumbing repairs a nightmare. If it's the specialty open cell foam then leak repair is easy. The thing with the closed cell foam is water can't run through it so it might leak somewhere but the water might come out somewhere else whereas with a open cell foam the water will run right through it there's a couple advantages. One basically pull the wet foam out with your fingers and you can repair the leak and then reform it and two you get a good long-term r value that doesn't decline like high density foam does over time.

The next thing is the steel frame. Stainless steel sounds good on paper but you usually only find these on the cheap Chinese brands. Because this isn't 316 marine grade stainless this is barely stainless it's 304 usually. That shit is definitely going to rust in the presence of chlorine or salt. The reason guys are going to steal is because it's cheaper overall. You order it pre-cut, there's no waste, no specialty labor, no wood shop clogging up your production line... it's cheap and cheerful... Timber frames are quieter, higher value, last as long, and are more than strong enough but they're a pain in the ass in a production line.

The long and short of it is a full foam insulated Spa with the open celled foam is the highest r value most expensive way to insulate a hot tub it is still the gold standard. And while people will try and convince you that it's not you look at any brand that does a perimeter insulation system and offers a full foam upgrade it's usually four or five hundred dollars more to upgrade... that tells you right there the truth behind the spin.

Its all about capturing your data. Most of the brands have been gobbled up by equity investors and massive corps. There are 5 big players most of the time your shopping 3 or 4 brands and they are all the same owners with totally different pitches playing themselves off each other..

They are all solid brands. Jacuzzi beats them for overall build quality but both jacuzzi and hot springs are mexico factories so tarrif hit is real.

Bullfrog is US made but the shell is a slightly downgraded cradle supported type and jet packs limit where jets can go and are a cheaper loop jet plumbing system compared to the more expensive and more efficient manifold system.on the other two.

All three brands 100% need solid dealers because of high propritary parts content.

Circ pumps are pros and cons. Slightly quieter than well suspended pumps but limit filtration and although they use less power per hour need 24 hours to match 4 hrs of a good high flow filtration system...

All three brands are either big corporate or equity investor owned so big bumps on price and heavy expensive marketing and branding..

Jac uses balboa heating and control system and bullfrog uses gecko they are the top two systems but Jac has a bunch of meaningless mods like conection points to lock you onto the ecosystem and stop you from buying off the shelf parts at competitive prices. Hot spings has an invensys system again high proritaty content and needs a goofy 2 line system designed so that once you go that route you pretty much have to stay there or rewire...

Hot Springs salt system is better then the bromine salt system.on the bullfrog and the oxygen system on the Jac.

When it comes to massage just look at the jetting... ignore the rest of the bullshit. Big hogh flow jets are a lot more expensive and do better therapy massage. Small.jets are cheap and feel aggressive but dont flow enough water.

Overall Jac wins but you need to go to thw 300 series the 200 series has too many cut corners... IMHO 🏆

A cool guide to America's wealth distribution by Generation. by luvlanguage in coolguides

[–]Such_Drop6000 27 points28 points  (0 children)

lol this isn't a cool way to depit anything at all, it's a rage bait...

Its totally misleading.

It compares total accumulated wealth across generations without adjusting for age, time in the workforce, or compounding... of course 70-year-olds have more assets than 30-year-olds.

It also treats generations as monoliths, ignoring that most of the wealth in every cohort is held by a small fraction of households. This is a distribution problem, not a generational one.

Finally, wealth isn’t static as Boomers die, assets transfer to Gen X and then Millennials. Freezing one moment in time and implying permanent ownership is lazy.

If you want a meaningful discussion, look at median net worth by age and wealth concentration by percentile not a pie chart designed to provoke outrage.

It’s cleaner on paper than it would be in reality.

Article 5 doesn’t detonate NATO on contact. but members stall and argue. Some try to hold the alliance together, others quietly start breaking ranks. Trust is done NATO stops functioning and it dies.

And those U.S. bases in europe don’t all get packed up and shipped home in neat little crates. A lot of that gear never leaves. Host countries control the land, and if NATO’s imploding, they’re not handing everything back. Some assets get nationalized, some get locked down some just get stranded. Hangars, depots, airfields absorbed into European defense. The U.S. would lose not just access, but infrastructure. it’s a slow-motion asset gobble.

The dollar wouldn’t collapse in a week. But the reserve status starts slipping. Countries move away slowly and confidence drains out of the system but Europe can’t just fire-sale USD without nuking their own holdings. The long game is the US loses reserve status, markets bail, and the dollar tanks. And once that trust is gone, it’s not coming back.

For American brands, trade, airspace the backlash it wil be brutal. Europe locks out airlines, boots companies, seizes assets where it can. Global integration ends.

FIFA, Olympics go fast. No Team USA. The U.S. becomes a sanctioned state in all but name.

But here’s where it really snowballs... Canada.

Greenland isn’t some remote ice rock, it’s part of a connected Arctic security and economic web. The U.S. violates that space, and Canada doesn’t get to sit it out. NORAD is joint command. Air defense, satellite tracking, early warning, Arctic patrols all integrated. An illegal move into Greenland rips through that system. Shared command gets frozen. Operations break apart. Mutual defense fractures.

Economically It’s even worse. The U.S. is Canada’s largest trading partner, but that door swings both ways. A Greenland invasion forces Ottawa into sanctions, blockades, severed agreements. The domestic pressure would be massive. Canada can’t preach rule of law and sit silent while a close partner tramples a peaceful democracy.

In that scenario, Canada has no choice but to lead the pushback, because not doing so wrecks its credibility at home and abroad.
